Outlook client fails to sync Gmail

I'm using the outlook email client on my MacBook to access my Gmail inbox. I've already set it up as an IMAP account. However, when I delete or move an email on my Mac it doesn't automatically sync the changes on the Gmail server. And when I right-click on my client Gmail inbox folder and select repair, it complains that there are changes made locally on my client that have not been synced to the Gmail server. When I right-click on my inbox on the client to do synchronize now, it says it's already synchronized, but it isn't. Does anyone know what's happening? Thank you very much.
