Do all iPads eventually require reactivation and is there any way to prevent it?

My iPad (3rd generation) has been working offline for over three years but it suddenly requested activation. Is there any way to avoid this in future? Would connecting it to the internet once a year help? I am concerned that it will request activation again while I am somewhere without internet access. I have read about this happening with iPad 2 and with other Apple devices with beta versions of iOS expiring; e.g., https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/411514/ipad-2-activation-required-and-failed-out-of-nowhere-not-activation-lock , https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8060598 and https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/65851/ipad-and-ipod-touch-suddenly-require-activation I have never had an issue like this with any MacBook or windows laptop. Do newer iPad models eventually request re-activation too? If I wanted to keep it offline indefinitely, would setting the date back a year once every year work?
