What do the options after a specific command mean?

command-line options documentation reference

                          How do I understand what the various options/flags mean?

For example: 

1) uname -a - What does -a denote here?

2) pyang -f - What does -f denote here?

I just want to understand if there is some reference/doc that tells the usage of these? Please clarify.
