I have to use Hotmail, not Gmail, as I primarily use Outlook on a PC, and Gmail provides no (free) Outlook sync method for contacts and calendars. With iPhone, you just add your Hotmail account and it syncs your contacts both ways seamlessly. Now I have a Google Nexus 6 on Android 6, I can't find any way to do this. I have tried the following: 1) Add Hotmail as an exchange account This puts your Hotmail contacts into the Android phone app. This is HALF the job. However, if you edit a contact, it does not sync back to Hotmail. The edit is local to the phone. If you lose your phone, you lose the number. Note: to get this to work, you have to create a manual setup, chose Exchange, then set the server to m.hotmail.com. So I removed the account and went back to zero contacts in the Android phone app. 2) Install the Outlook app and add a Hotmail account Next, I installed the Outlook app and added my Hotmail account. Your contacts are visible in the people tab of Outlook, *but you can't edit them or add new ones*. It also adds an Android account called "Outlook", and puts your Hotmail contacts in the Android phone app. Great, no? NO. Again, if you edit a contact, it stays on the phone, the sync is one way. Even worse, if you add a new contact as a Hotmail contact, it does not sync anywhere. Am I missing something, or is Outlook/Hotmail on Android completely broken/only half-implemented? Surely there is someone who uses Outlook on a PC and has an Android phone, and needs to sync contacts two ways, something I have been doing without issue for the last 10 years with Windows CE phones and iPhones? === Update === Recently, MS "upgraded" Hotmail to use exchange protocols for synchronization, rather than the Hotmail connector, so I decided to dust off the Nexus and try again. 1. Start off with no contacts in the phone app, Outlook for Android installed with no accounts 2. Add hotmail.com email as an Exchange account in Outlook for Android 3. Wait 4. Now I see - all my contacts in Outlook for Android, but they are not editable, they are read-only. If I change a contact in Outlook on my desktop, I see the change in Outlook for Android. But no way to get changes or new contacts back the other way. Unfortunately, contacts in Outlook for Android are largely useless as I don't use email on my phone and would rarely use Outlook for Android, I only installed it to try to get contacts to sync. I need the contacts in the phone's phone book. - all my contacts appear on the Android phone app, but it's one-way sync only. If I change a contact on the phone, the change is not reflected or saved anywhere. If I add a new contact, it's not synced or saved anywhere. If I updated a contact on the PC or in the Hotmail web browser, this change is synced back to the phone, overwriting any changes I have made to an existing contact on the phone. Contacts are correctly marked as belonging to the Hotmail/Exchange account.

I use the Gmail app to read emails on my Android phone. I defined two accounts, a Gmail account and a Hotmail account. The Gmail account works w/o a problem, for syncing, reading, writing and deleting emails. However, when using the Hotmail account, reading and writing emails work fine, but whenever I delete an email (with any of the various standard methods), the email is removed from Inbox, only to re-appear next time the account syncs (of course, when doing this from the web interface, it works just fine). I tried a few solutions, including changing the Outlook options and changing settings on my phone, but nothing seems to work. How can I make my deleted Hotmail emails really disappear?

I have sync issues with Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, when using its service with my Hotmail account. (I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 with Android 6.0.1, if that helps) These are the steps I took to reproduce the issue, 1. Go to the settings page 2. Under the Personalization Section I select Accounts 3. Select Add Account 4. Select Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync 5. Entered my Email Address and Password 6. Select Next 7. Uncheck all the checkboxes except Sync Contacts. 8. Select Next 9. Name the Account and select Done Now that I had setup the account, I took the following steps to test my contact sync 1. Create a new contact on the device using the contacts app and selecting the microsoft exchange activesync as the account and fill in a name and contact number. 2. Save the contact. 3. Go to outlook's webapp 4. log into the same microsoft account and create a contact. 5. Save the contact. Finally I went to my phone and made sure sync was switched on and looked for the contact I had made using the outlook's webapp. I also looked on outlook's webapp for the contact created on the phone. The final result: - Sync from Outlook.com to android => WORKING (The contact I created using the outlook.com web app was visible in both the web app and the phone) - Sync from Android to Outlook => BROKEN (The contact was only visible on the phone ie: missing from the outlook web app) How can I fix the BROKEN Android to Outlook sync? **___________________________________________UPDATE___________________________________________** 1. I haven't tried using another android phone, I don't have one lying around at the moment. I'll give it a shot when I can and let you know. 2. I do not sync my contacts with my google account, how is this possible? I am trying to sync my MS account contacts to my android phone. I wasn't aware of a connection between the MS account and my Google account contacts. 3. I've already tried syncing the emails, no luck. Issue still persists.

I've just recently flashed my rom with Android GPE 5.1 on my HTC M7 and it's working great however there's a slight problem where for some reason my hotmail contacts are not syncing after I've set up my hotmail account in Gmail using exchange setup. On my old HTC M7 sense my hotmail accounts synced up and all appeared fine. When I go to Accounts settings I can see my hotmail account is there under Gmail and I can see it shows Contacts, Calendars and Emails show as synced but only Calendars and Emails are indeed synced as I could see them in Gmail and my calendar app but I can't see any of my hotmail contacts. I also tried installing outlook and adding my hotmail account but outlook is not appearing under the Account settings. Anyone got a similar problem and know how to resolve this as I don't want to manually export and import my hotmail into google account?

I always have to manually get the new messages. The Exchange server settings ->Sync Email says 'Sync is turned off' with a green check mark. All the settings for Exchange are disabled and I can't change them. Any ideas how to get the syncing working again?

I tried various tricks like using "." or "\" for the domain field, but no luck. Recently, emails arriving via my Hotmail account have ceased to open when using the "Display as HTML" button option provided at the top right of the message. I just get an error message saying "Connection Failed", with the not too useful facility of being able to acknowledge this by pressing "OK"! This did not occur for the previous 7 months or so I have owned the phone. Is it a result of the latest update?

I am using Hotmail app developed by "Microsoft + Seven" to read emails. I have many folders other than inbox to segregate my emails. There are rules set in web version of Hotmail, that moves the incoming emails to respective folders. These rules are working fine and I observe all my moved emails correctly in web version. However, my Android client notifies me and displays only about the new emails in my Inbox. I had selected those other folders in the app to download email: enter image description here But still, I neither do not get any notifications on these folders nor any email when I open the folder in the client. When I open the folder I get "No messages" message in the screen, through there are messages. When I press "Check email" option in the context menu while I am viewing the folder, a toast message "Check email request sent" is displayed and goes off with no emails shown. Though I am not worried about the notification about the new emails in the folders other than inbox, I do want to read them in the client. Presently. I am doing this by opening web version in a browser. I have seen the following questions which are close but not to be considered as duplicate. 1. How can I sync all folders from an Exchange server (not just the Inbox)? I am not using an exchange server. I am using Hotmail POP or IMap servers. 2. How can I get push notifications for emails in sub-folders? This talks about Gmail and my Gmail client is working perfectly fine. But in Gmail, there are no folders only labels. 3. Can I get a notification when an email arrives in a sub folder? I am not much worried about notification. But as said in @Zuul's explanation regarding Hotmail, all done; no fun. I haven't tried other email apps including stock app in Android 2.3.3 LG V20G P500.
