Whenever I try to "sign-in" to Android Market using my Google Account, it always shows > **Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server** > > This could be a temporary problem or your phone may not be provisioned for data services. If it continues, call Customer Care. Now what do I have to do to access "Android Market" from my HTC Hero phone?

Device: T-Mobile G2 (UK) / HTC Hero OS: 2.1 I have a primary gmail account, a second Gmail account, and a Google Apps account. I'd now like to add another Google Apps account. However, whenever I try, I get a "you don't have a network connection / This could be a temporary problem or your phone may not be provisioned for data services. lease try again when connected to a mobile network, or connect to a Wi-Fi network. If the problem continues, call Customer Care" message. However I've tried this from 3 cities, across a few weeks, from where I'm always able to access internet and Google accounts. I presume there's no limit of 3, so what else can I try? Edit - 3rd Jan - I just tried removing an existing (working) gmail account. I can't add the new account, or put back the removed account - new error is "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server./This could be a temporary problem or your phone may not be provisioned for data services. If it continues, call Customer Care.". This is on WiFi and 3G - whilst the process was trying I received (pull) email! There's something really wrong.

I recently got completely fed up with the built in Messages (SMS) application and switched it out for Chomp (also looking at Handcent, haven't decided on one yet). I want to use the "Messages" icon though, as well as treat the new app as the default SMS program. I know about "Manage Applications" and clicking the "Clear Defaults" button for the app. But the "Clear Defaults" is disabled for the Messages app and it says that no defaults are set. I read on [someone else's post](https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/2394/can-i-make-ebuddy-be-the-default-instant-messanger) that their AT&T provider had somehow hardcoded this as the default app and they couldn't change it. So... Can they really do that? Is that why my HTC Hero doesn't let me clear the default? Is there a way around that?

It has a bunch of default albums like "My Favroties" "All photos" and such. I just want to create my own albums so I can organize some pictures, like an album of all the pictures of my ridiculously cute niece. Anyone know how to do that? Or can suggest a better photo management application for Android 2.1?

Orange being the unhelpful company that it is, can't unlock phones in the shop. This was unfortunate as I was going overseas, but no matter, I called the helpline, and then was told it'll take three weeks - to get the IMEI sent to HTC, and get the unlock code back. I had no choice so I waited, and after three weeks I got the code. Of course, it didn't work. I checked, and they've used the wrong IMEI number. This means another 3 weeks, at least, and I'm meanwhile stuck roaming with my smartphone, which is NOT cheap, plus I can't terminate my contract with them until it's unlocked. Sooo...while I wait out the time again in the hope they don't screw it up *again*, I wondered if it's possible to either unlock it by other methods, or to root it and whether that would negate the need for unlocking? HTC Hero originally running 1.5, now 2.1 update 1, with Orange UK.

In attempt to install 2.2 I've deleted all my contacts(contacts were saved on phone, not as google contacts) I've done full [nandroid](http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=459830) backup while phone still had those contacts; however when I try restoring image; I get bootloop. Nandroid backup contains system.img, data.img, cache.img and boot.img; I'm wondering if I can restore only data.img to get contacts back. I have thought of 2 other solutions: a) make a new nandroid image of current status; verify that it's ok by doing restart; then open copy database with contacts from one backup to another. b) open database with contacts from data.img; and manually retype 200 phone records. Is there any smarter (quicker, easier) way??

How to synchronize birthdates from contacts with google calendar on HTC Hero?
I'm aware of the fact that the standard contacts/calendar app does not support birthdates synchronization (Android issue [1211](http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1211)). But may be there is some third-party software which can make those synchronized for me?

HTC HERO OTA update to Android version 2.1 firmware deleted the Calibrate Touch Screen feature from the menus. How do I get it back?

HTC directly updated over-the-air (OTA) from 1.5 android to 2.1 android firmware on my handset. Since that time, the touch-screen (which is miscalibrated) can no longer be recalibrated, because the menu item has disappeared. I have, of course, requested support from HTC via email, but I doubt that they will find an answer here, and I suspect my phone is now junk, unless some enterprising Phone-savvy person can figure out how to restore this thing. There is sadly no backup that I know of that I can use to restore this phone, and going back to Android 1.5 has a host of issues associated with it. How can I get this working again? I could use any technique that will let me recalibrate the touch screen, even if it isn't the built-in menu item, maybe there is a way to bring that up indirectly somehow, or through an add-on app? Incidentally, HTC HERO 's seem to be famous on internet cell-phone forums for glitchy capacitive touch screens.

How do I root my HTC Hero?
I'm tired of waiting for my Android 2.1 update to arrive, so I've decided to root my HTC Hero. Any direction as to how I should do this? *Note: I actually have a T-Mobile branded version, so I do need some workaround because it doesn't let itself be unlocked as easily as vanilla HTC Heros.*

CM7 extra stated that it supports loop devices but it fails on my hero. Could it be that there is some hardware issue that even the right ROM can't fix?

T-mobile/Orange HTC Hero - no 3G on Orange
My HTC Hero uses both T-mobile and Orange in the UK, since February. However when my phone is connected to an Orange mast instead of a T-mobile mast I don't get 3G as it says that I am roaming. If I switch on the option to allow data roaming, will I get any additional charges?
