I am switching from the default music player on my iPhone to using Spotify to play music. The recent updates have meant that I can't use the music player in the same as I used to and I much prefer Spotify in general.I still want to use iTunes on my Mac to organise playlists.
What I need to set up is essentially a reverse smart playlist. I have 2000 songs in my iTunes library but I only want 500 of those on my phone. Is there a way to have the songs that get put into my smart playlist (that gets synced to my phone) getting automatically copied into a folder in Finder and have that as the 'Local File Source' in Spotify? Or would I just have to do this manually?
Hopefully that makes sense, and any kind of help would be awesome!
Thanks

I'm looking to create a smart playlist on Apple Music that automatically creates a playlist or finds all of the songs in my library without lyrics. Is there a way to filter songs that Apple Music hasn't assigned lyrics to yet? My initial idea was to curate this list and then manually sift through to weed out tracks that simply lack assigned lyrics but aren't truly instrumental. I'm aware there are scripts for songs with custom lyrics, but I haven't added custom lyrics or descriptions to any of my tracks. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I've just created a very simple Smart Playlist that selects all my "Loved" songs. That's it, not referencing other playlists, not referencing any song outside my library, no nested rules. Just "Love is Loved" as a condition. The playlist on my computer shows 166 songs, but the same playlist on my iPhone shows 144 songs. I've checked for some of the missing songs on my iPhone and they are in the Library and I can play them on my phone, no problem. They just won't appear on that Smart Playlist. Any tips?
I have all the latest updated software as of today (Jan 8th 2019) both on my computer and on my phone. I have both Apple Music and iTunes in the Cloud enabled on my phone and on my computer. If I update the playlist name, it gets automatically updated on my phone as well. If I "like" a new song, that song gets added to the playlist on the phone too. It seems to me that only some songs that were already liked when I created the playlist that are missing.

I recently noticed that somehow, a smart playlist of mine which contains 700+ titles doesn't show all of them on my iPhone 7. I tried to delete it on both my mac and my iPhone, but it doesn't seem to solve the issue. I've also realized that all the titles excluded from the smart playlist on the phone before and after deleting (and recreating) it hasn't changed.
How can I solve this problem? I'm currently using macOS High Sierra (10.13.6) and my iPhone is up to date (iOS 12.1).

Can I build a smart playlist populated by songs I’ve loved within the last x weeks?
I have a smart playlist that basically features the songs I’ve “loved” (❤️) within the last two weeks. To make this playlist work it would mean that I’d need to know when that song was “loved”. Is this even tracked by iTunes? If not, is there a workaround? Thank you!

I'm hosting a barbecue on Saturday that is likely to go on well into the night, so I have compiled a playlist of approximately 10 hours of music. I want to make sure that if I need to stop the playback and start it again, I don't want to hear the same tracks already played recently.
In conclusion, I'd like to create a Smart Playlist that will only show songs that haven't been played in the last 6 hours. Unfortunately, the "Last Played not in the last" shortest option is 1 day. I considered the "Limit to XX items selected by least recently played" option, however that will mean the music will be skewed towards music I haven't listened to for the longest, which is not what I want, because that ends up grouping lots of a similar artist together and it won't feel very random. I tried entering a fraction for number of days, but it doesn't allow that.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I could get this to work?

I have about 1100 songs in my library from CDs in itunes which are matched in Apple music/iCloud music library. Some of them are loved in terms of Apple Music and others not.
Here comes the challenge: I want to create a smart playlist with still not loved songs(love is none rule) limited to 25 and it should live update every week.
What I’ve done is to set the following rules:
- Plays < 15
- Love is none
- live updating
- Limit 25 songs
But this will make songs never return back to the playlist. Do you have a better idea?
Thanks in advance.

I have created a Playlist (pl1) and favorited some of the tracks in it.
But because I want to filter (the heart symbol in Apple Music) **only the tracks which are favorited from pl1** I created a smart playlist with following settings:
- contained in **pl1** *AND*
- marked as **favorite**
My Problem now is that the new smart playlist won't sync over to my iPhone...
pl1 and the favorites sync normally and even the favorited tracks from pl1 show up in favorites on the iPhone but as I said the smart playlist won't show up.
I tried the following:
1. Restart the iPhone
2. Re-Enable Apple Music
3. Relogging from icloud
4. Recreating both pl1 and the smart playlist
I also found these two questions:
- [ITunes Match: syncing smart playlists that reference other
playlists](https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/31497/itunes-match-syncing-smart-playlists-that-reference-other-playlists)
- [iTunes smart playlist not syncing to iPhone](https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/37784/itunes-smart-playlist-not-syncing-to-iphone)
But the first one is about itunes match and the second one said that it worked again after some time

My iTunes music library consists of iTunes downloads (256 kbps), and songs copied from my CD's (~400 – 1100 kbps). I have a dumb playlist containing a subset of these, which I sync to my iPod Nano (it doesn't have room for my entire library(. Also on the nano are other dumb playlists, each containing specific songs that are subsets of my main dumb playlist, which are tailored to my various workouts.
Recently, however, I've started listening to audiobooks on my Nano, which means I need to free up more room, so I'd like to replace all the CD-quality songs on my nano with 320 kbps versions (and I'd likewise like to still be able to use my various workout playlists). I thus had iTunes create 320 kbps versions of all my CD-quality songs. What I'd like to do is create smart playlists containing only songs whose bitrate is 320 kbps, and whose title matches a song found in a specified dumb playlist. This doesn't seem to be possible, but if it is I'd love to find out how!
Yes, I could just leave things as they are and, from within the Nano control window available in iTunes, tell iTunes to convert everything on my Nano to 256 kbps. But, since I have the space for 320 kbps, why not keep the maximum resolution? Granted, I might have trouble telling the difference....

I keep live update turned off on most of my smart playlists because changing anything, such as ratings, for a currently playing song could cause the song to disappear from the playlist if it no longer meets the smart playlist's criteria. The song stops playing and the playlist grinds to a halt. So far, the easiest solution has been to have an Applescript run automatically in the middle of the night to quit iTunes and then launch it again, thus forcing all of my smart playlists to update. This works. It's also easy enough to right click on a smart playlist and select "Update Smart Playlist." But what I'd rather do is use an Applescript to refresh all of my smart playlists and assign it a hotkey (using BetterTouchTool).
Is it possible to use Applescript to make iTunes smart playlists update?

After a Sync, on the iPhone (6+, latest iOS 10) the Smart Playlist "ALL" appears in Music that I'd like to play, but there's just a menu
(in "*Downloaded Music*")
- Download
- Remove
- Add to Playlist (what is that?)
*Download*? What is it going to Download? All the Music being already locally on the iPhone in the Library.
Must be missing something obvious, I just want to play "ALL", how can i do that?
**Edit May 2017**
The question was not so clear.
It was actually a bug (smart playlists not syncing in iOS 10), and [this answer](https://apple.stackexchange.com/a/51823/7163) fixed it for me. Basically - go to Library in iTunes (Mac/PC side, not "My Device") - right-click and "Duplicate" all problematic playlists - delete the old ones, rename the duplicated ones to their old name (if you cannot stand the "1" added to the renamed playlist) - go to your "Device" and sync the "Entire Library"

I run a rather complicated stack of smart playlists to populate my iPod with music and videos, from the top one that pulls out the files I added to my library first, to the middle range that sorts that playlist by how many times I have listened to the files, to the actually used playlists that sort it out by media type (i.e. TV Show, Audiobook, and music genres) These low level playlists I have I usually limit to 23 items since this is the most I can have on one screen without scrolling, however I have stumbled across a small problem. I like to listen to my music by year, the oldest stuff first, but I have no way to LIMIT the playlist by this field. I can limit by random, but then my audiobooks show up all out of order, same with artist and album, sometimes I'll get the third book in the trilogy before the first one.
Can playlist limit matches by year so I can always get the earliest stuff first?

I have a number of these lists already, which I created several years ago, with a previous version of iTunes.
My problem now is that I am unable to select any particular playlist in the smart playlist dialog. The playlist name is defaulted to "Music", as shown here:
Further, if I open one of my existing examples, the dialog will show the playlist(s) I'm harvesting, but _won't let me edit the playlist names_.
What is going on here? How can I fix things so this works?
I know that an alternative solution is recreate the rules that form the source playlists in a new smart playlist, with the additional size restriction. This is what I'm now doing as a work-around, but it would be preferable to just get the feature working like it once did.

Someone has already asked this question about a month ago, and he did a fine job of explaining it and it is EXACTLY what is happening to me. Here is the link to the original post.
I am posting this here now (I'm sorry if you consider it a "duplicate") because I want to add more info to his problem and it's not allowing me to comment on his post since I'm a brand new member.
My new info - I have tried everything - deleting, moving, uninstalling... NOTHING has worked. The last step I tried was to completely remove EVERY single piece of Apple software, AppData, user files, etc. from my machine. No dice. I'm using the latest Windows 10 with iTunes 12.5.5.5.
I also had my Apple pro buddy try and help me since he has worked at the Apple Store in Tokyo forever, and he couldn't figure it out. But that may likely just be because he's been a Mac guy his whole life and has no Windows experience.
And now my smart playlists that WERE working using the playlist filter are gone forever... Thanks, Apple...
If anyone can help I will be extremely grateful.

I have a rather complicated playlist in iTunes called "Headbang." It looks like this:
There are about 50 artists included in that final criteria. This works perfectly in iTunes and the playlist gives me about 1,500 songs.
When I sync my iPhone and tell iTunes to include that playlist, I get a playlist on the iPhone that is named "Headbang," but the playlist has 5,995 songs, and I have no idea how they're selected. All of the songs that in the iPhone's version seem to be 4-star, and I do have another playlist called "4 Star Music" that is copying over, but it has only 5,935 songs, so it isn't exactly the same list of songs, although "4 Star Music" might be a subset of "Headbang."
I tried duplicating the playlist, but that didn't work, and neither did renaming it. I haven't manually recreated it yet because of how many artists are included. The only way I was able to get a playlist on the iPhone with those 1,571 songs was to select all the songs in the smart playlist and manually create a new playlist from them. Obviously I'd like to use the smart playlist if I can figure out what's wrong.
Note that I don't seem to be having problems with other smart playlists. So, any suggestions on how I can get this playlist to copy the correct songs to my iPhone?
Here are the current version stats:
- MacBook Pro 17" (mid 2010), macOS 10.11.5
- iTunes 12.4.3.1
- iPhone 6S Plus 64 GB, iOS 9.3.3
