How to limit the network access of an app to my VPN?

                          I have a VPN to a service, and an app to deal with it.

I want this app to ...really not working et all, if the VPN is not turned on. My best idea is to limit its network access to the VPN interface.

In Linux, it would be easy with iptables (+ using that apps have their own uid on Android), but is there a much better way?
