pixel 9a hotspot speed is very slow, am I missing some settings?

Just bought the Pixel 9a (Android 16) to use with Verizon's Visible service and eSIM. The phone works just fine showing 180+Mbps with fast.com speed test. The visible premium plan allows unlimited hotspot use at speeds for streaming 4K. Activating the hotspot with 5GHz Band I can only get 2-5Mbps on a PC. The 2.4GHz is even worse. I only need about 40Mbps for my PC use and happy with some loss in the process, but 5Mbps of 180 ain't cutting it. I have tried 2 Linux Mint-22+Cinn PCs and a win-10 laptop (all Intel CPU) are all the same at 2-5Gbps speed. There are no other 5GHz anythings here so it is not a busy network. I have spent several days and a zillion searches and AI assists to no avail. PCs and phone are all up to date of course. Are there some settings I am missing on the phone?
