Google maps "send directions to your iPhone" on my mac no longer finds my iPhone

For some reason google maps does not see my iPhone anymore from my 
This _was_ working for the prior year that I have had this mac. I did click on _Device not shown? Learn more_ and it says to be logged in on both the mac and iPhone. I _am_ signed in on google to both of those devices. Any ideas?
**Update** This problem persists on two more iPhones (iphone12's) and on iOs 16, 17 and 18, and on a different mac (Sonoma 14.5)
