How can I find out and change what program is called when I click an icon in the launchpad?

Occasionally the Launchpad doesn't work right. For instance, I have installed WireGuard and it has inserted itself into the Launchpad, but when I click its icon, nothing happens. When I manually call /Applications/WireGuard.app/Contents/MacOS/WireGuard it works fine, so the program itself is not at fault. How can I find out and edit what precisely the Launchpad thinks it's doing?
