How can the cursor be made to stop blinking in modern Microsoft Word (365)?

Microsoft Word v16 (part of "365") is one of the many third-party applications that doesn't obey either the new ["Prefer non-blinking cursor" accessibility setting](https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/mac-help/unac089/mac) or the [older method of setting/overriding NSTextInsertionPointBlinkPeriodOn](https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6720434) , presumably because it's doing its own thing.
