I'm looking for suggestions as to the cause / solution to a spinning beachball every time I try and copy/paste in Excel. This happens more on some spreadsheets, but is happening in one I use frequently which is only 700 KB. I am using **Office 365**, and my MBP (Mac Book Pro) is 2018 (2.6 GHz i7, 32 GB RAM), running Catalina. It does however seem independent of device, as I recreated it on my partners MacBook Air (2011, 2.0 GHz i7, 8 GB RAM) running High Sierra. The desired file is stored locally but mirrored in iCloud). I am aware that was a problem in Office 2011 for Mac, but my online search hasn't found posts with this problem recently. I have tried an older suggested workaround of copy/pasting a blank cell in a blank spreadsheet before opening the desired file as suggested at https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/249326/excel-2011-copy-and-paste-beachball-hang-freeze-issue I have also tested with desired file mirrored on a different cloud, and also just saved locally without any cloud mirroring, - all have similar problems. Thanks @pion for the specific detailed advice to capture what my system is doing when it happens. This is available on Github, spindump.txt .

Windows Excel allows me to paste a body of text and in the bottom right corner of the pasted content, a menu prompt will pop up that can initiate the "Text Import Wizard" to import delimited text into columns (text separated by commas or spaces, for example). In Numbers, such an option doesn't exist that I know of. Second, how can I import text (including numbers) as text? With windows I can do both of these functions with the Text Import Wizard and with Numbers I can't do either. The only solution I've found to the first problem is to download a custom workflow that I found in this Apple Community thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8293955 And a less elegant solution is also discussed here but it's much more clunky: https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/111512/how-can-i-do-text-to-columns-in-numbers?rq=1 Regardless, I still haven't found a way to import numbers as text.

However, it is not the 'complete' Teams app which also has chat, filesharing and other stuff. I am not part of some company team with a Active Directory account, so I cannot 'log in' to Teams. The app just opens when I click 'Join Meeting' from an invite. So after I wave goodbye and exit the meeting, where to the chats go?

I'm using macOS 14.6.1 and Outlook 16.89.3. I can't quite find an answer to this question on the forum. I'm trying to create a folder actions service/script to monitor a particular folder for any new excel files (only excel files would be added to this folder anyway) and, when a file is added, send that file, via Outlook, to the user whose email address is found in cell B2 of the spreadsheet. I've tried using chatgpt for this. It gives me a script that works when using Apple Mail, but not Outlook. Here is one example of what chatgpt says I should use...which keeps failing. When I drop a file in the folder, I see the little gear icon turning in the menu bar, but there are no dialog boxes that appear, no error messages, and no created/sent emails in Outlook.
on adding folder items to this_folder after receiving added_items
    repeat with added_item in added_items
set filePath to POSIX path of added_item

                    tell application "Microsoft Outlook"

If not, is there a way to present the comments inline, just pushed by a level (like in reply messages?)
Thanks in advance!

In recent versions of Word and Excel, when I press cmd-O or select Open from the dropdown, it gives me an annoying cluttered screen full of options I don't care about instead of actually letting me open my files. To get the latter I have to click "On My Mac", down under "Other Locations". Is there any way to make it just open the files from my filesystem by default, the way it used to until recently? I saw a related question that recommended deleting the OneDrive app to make My Mac be the default for saving. I do edit shared files in SharePoint/O365 at work, so I'm worried about that getting screwed up. Is there any other option? If deleting OneDrive is the only option, what will it do to my SharePoint workflow? If I have to live with this dialogue box, I guess it's not the end of the world, but it *is* really annoying so I thought I'd at least check if anyone had ideas.

I don't have access to anything before OS X, but I still have a PowerPC laptop. Recent versions of PowerPoint refuse to open it, and I haven't been successful finding a converter. Alternatively, is there a service that would do something like this?

How to solve a keyboard shortcut conflict between the Finder and Word for Mac on Sonoma or later?

I have a conflict between Finder and Microsoft Word with the key combination Shift + Command + D. Finder uses it to open the Desktop window and this prevents me from using this shortcut to toggle Dark mode in Word. To clarify: if I use this key combination, Word will not toggle Dark Mode even if it has focus. If you return to Finder, it can open the Desktop window as usual. Therefore, the problem is not the keyboard. I am running macOS Sonoma at work and macOS Sequoia at home. I only find this problem in the computer at home and **none of the old solutions work**, including: 1. Edit the Finder shortcut in Apple Menu -> Settings -> Keyboard -> Keyboard Shortcuts system control panel. Although the conflict disappears then the new shortcut I chose for Finder works the first time but it won't work later (a bug?); consequence: I needed to reverse this setting. 2. Tried to use many apps to edit this **pre-existing** command in Finder that are able to edit keyboard shortcuts but due to the changes how this is achieved on Sonoma and later editing the com.apple.symbolichotkeys.plist does not work anymore and none of the apps in the market are able to edit these **pre-existing** key combinations. (I am aware that these apps are able to add new key combinations but they are not able to **override** pre-existing Finder key combinations, though). The only app able to **override** any Finder keyboard shortcut is the System Preferences panel I referred to in 1. Moreover, some of the apps even require privileged helpers and I do not want that. *What do I have to do to solve this conflict?*

How do I make the "MultiSelect" option work in the Application.GetOpenFilename() method? Despite Microsoft's help page, setting this argument to True doesn't allow me to select multiple files in the dialog. Answers like this do not help since FileDialog isn't available on the Mac version of Excel. enter image description here What I really want is to prompt the user for a folder instead of a file, but I can't find out how. So, I'm using subs like this to have the user pick files but as you can see in my screen recording, MultiSelect doesn't work. I know I can use the file selected to determine the folder Sub getFolder() Dim path As Variant path = Application.GetOpenFilename(FileFilter:="txt", _ MultiSelect:=True) If path = "False" Then End 'user hit Cancel End Sub Ironically, the first time a file is chosen a "Grant Access" dialog appears, which is itself a folder picker -- exactly what I want. And yet I can't figure out how to make a "Grant Access" dialog appear with VBA.

Clicking on Microsoft Teams icon in the Dock on macOS opens a control screen rather than returning to the active session. All other applications and especially Microsoft Office products go to the active/open file. Is there something that I can do to change the behavior so that clicking on the Microsoft Teams icon in the MacOS Dock returns to the currently active Teams session? I called it a control screen. It defaults to the calendar and has some other controls on it. Attached is the picture of the upper left corner of the screen. enter image description here
