I have some files that are .zfab and .u3ma. They are fabrics for 3D garment rendering called CLO and Browsewear. These two companies also specializes in testing physical fabrics which is the part I'm interested in. However they are adamant they want pack them into their own fileformat which only works when using their own software. I'm trying to find another way to use their services without manually have to first load the files into the respective software and then copy paste all the data into a more flexible format like a JSON. Is it anyway possible to force open these file formats to see if theres a way to export the data I need?

When I take a photo in the new format with my iPhone 7, is there any way to use it right away in my mac, without having to convert it in my iPhone first? I mean, can I get those photos synced through iCloud and converted locally on my Mac? I have tried to find a third party software that could do that kind of conversion, but was not able to find any that would work on El Capitan. Any idea?

Is there a quick and easy way to convert many HEIC files to png on macOS? ### Example Suppose we take some live photos on iPhone, airdrop them to MacBook, and we want to upload them to a site that only accepts .png files. enter image description here I've noticed if you simply change the extension from .HEIC to .png (e.g. in the above image), then as far as I can tell, the image file is treated accordingly by programs and it 'works'. However, I guess the underlying file *hasn't* changed, so it could still contain live photo information (I think), which a normal png wouldn't have, which, in a worst case, could be a security risk or in less severe cases simply be an annoyance. ### What I know so far The best I can do right now is go through the files one by one renaming them. I would really like to know what other solutions are available (via point and click and terminal), and have a strong preference for not having to download any external software.

I recorded an audio using Audacity, then increased its volume 10 times using ffmpeg. When I am sending this audio as attachment to my friends to test, then people with older iPhones are able to hear it fine (volume is still low though), but people on iPhone 14 and higher are not hearing my voice in the mp3 at all. Actually, on iPhone 14 and higher, my voice is there in audio, but its so low in volume that it's almost inaudible, impossible to hear. I can hear it if I strain really really a lot. Other things on the phone are playing fine, audio settings are showing full. If I add a background music to the audio using ffmpeg, then people on iPhone 14 and higher are only hearing the music, not my voice. What is happening here? Edit: This is certainly a ffmpeg issue. I increased volume in input file using audacity and tried playing the new file on iPhone 14, it has somewhat higher volume, can hear myself a little but still not much. In any case, whatever Audacity did to increase volume, that worked, and whatever ffmpeg is doing with my below command, it's not working at all. My question is: Do I need to adjust some frequency etc options/settings in the input when using ffmpeg to increase the volume? What ffmpeg command can I use to fix the issue, so that volume increased files play on all devices? Thanks Here is the ffmpeg command I am using to increase volume in my recorded audio. Output mp3 file from below command is uploaded here: https://tbrjar.com/audio_test/z1.mp3 and here's the original input file as recorded by audacity: https://tbrjar.com/audio_test/input.mp3
% ffmpeg -ss 00:00:00 -i input.mp3 -to 00:00:05 -filter:a "volume=10" -c:a libmp3lame z1.mp3

When we do a search for the notes in Spotlight, however, we can see them. Clicking on each note in Spotlight does nothing. Poking around we noticed this user’s store.db file has the related info in it, yet the file is gibberish. Is there a way to export this into something legible? We've read this may be something SQL or sqlite related. Hoping someone can help.

I am a huge fan of [HandBrake](http://www.handbrake.fr/) . It is the epitome of simple. Select a video file (or DVD), select a preset, select an output path, click Start. A certain amount of time later relative to the size/quality of the content, and you have yourself a pretty much perfect video file suitable for the medium of your choice. I've been looking for similar qualities in an Audio Converter, and more preferably, an Audio Extractor (from a given video file). I would love to be able to drag a video file into an application, specify that I want the Audio File in AAC at a given bitrate, click Start, and let the app do the rest. I am not averse to using Handbrake to suffice the conversion aspect of this, so long as the audio extraction after the fact is a simple process. The point is to take as few steps as possible. Any tips? Apps? Ideas?

Keeping date of original recording in converted video file

I have some video files that came from a digital video camera. If I examine the file using exiftool, I see an output that includes:
SB-iMac(~/Movies/trial) % exiftool f1.dv
ExifTool Version Number : 12.40
File Name : f1.dv
Directory : .

File Modification Date/Time : 2024:05:19 12:26:08-04:00

Date/Time Original : 2009:01:18 11:28:30
After converting with Handbrake and selecting "passthrough common metadata", exiftool reveals:
SB-iMac(~/Movies/trial) % exiftool f1.m4v
ExifTool Version Number : 12.40
File Name : f1.m4v
Directory : .

File Modification Date/Time : 2024:05:19 12:26:08-04:00
File Access Date/Time : 2024:05:19 12:26:08-04:00
The Date/Time Original field does not appear in this listing of metadata for the converted file. If I load both files into FinalCutPro, the original file appears as 'its own event' dated 'Jan 18, 2009' and the converted file as an event for 'May 19, 2024'. Within FCP, I cannot find that the revealed metadata for the original file includes the date in 2009. I tried to create my own view of metadata in FCP and selected the 'Date Time Original'. However, even that option does not reveal the 2009 date.) Is there a way of keeping the earlier date in the file conversion process?

Eventually I did find a website which recommended uploading it to Keynote as a one-slide presentation and saving it as a .gif, but I suppose my computer, as it's quite old, couldn't handle downloading it and crashed. What would be a good way to convert it with minimal stress on my system? Download time isn't a problem as long as it gets done.

Now, I've got each track twice, once in MP3, and again in AAC. That's very cumbersome to go through all songs and find the old mp3's. Is there an easier way? (I have googled, but did not find anything really useful.) I converted the tracks as follows: I went to the album, selected all tracks in it, went to File / Convert / Create AAC Version, and let Apple Music do the conversion. That worked, but, as I said, afterwards, each track was duplicate in the album.

I have the Photos app's "Transfer to Mac or PC" setting on "Automatic", but when I transfer the photos to my PC, they are still in DNG format. I tried to use ImageMagick on my PC to convert the DNG files to JPG, but as you can see (original DNG on the left side, converted JPG on the right side), the colors are way off on the converted image: enter image description here So I would like to do the conversion in the iPhone itself if possible. I found an article saying that you can convert a DNG photo to a JPG by tapping the Share button on the image and then selecting "Save to Files", but that still saved the photo as a DNG.

I need to convert about 500k emails into searchable PDFs. By 'searchable' I mean that macOS will be able to scan them for specific words rather than simply treating them as an image. My searches, thus far, for a tool to do this have ended in proprietary database apps and over-priced sketchball x-to-pdf converters which basically perform the built-in macOS functionality of Print To PDF. Wanting to convert an external HFS+ drive to APFS. This is said to be doable without losing the current content. I have no reason to doubt that. But I'm curious: **Is there any reason (any significant difference) to instead do a fresh erase/reformat? (and then restore the contents from backup)**
