I'm currently running with RunKeeper (to track my speed) and also wearing an chestband+wristwatch (to track my heart rate). It would be nice to get rid of the wristwatch, if there's some app (and chestband receiver hardware?) to combine the data. I've seen some apps that only do heart rate monitoring, but I don't want to switch between 2 apps while running.

Can I somehow restrict command+tab to hide apps without document windows open from macOS?

On MacOS, closing the last window of an app does not close that app. (To speed up opening a new window later, I assume.) ### Motivation Let's look at 2 common activities: A) opening a document/file that is currently closed, or creating a new one. For this, I use finder, or I open (if closed) / switch to (if open) the wanted app from spotlight and do the rest there. B) looking for a document/file that is open in some window. For this, I use CMD+Tabbing, or click on the app in the dock, or switch to the space where I know the document is located. **Because I use CMD+Tabbing exclusively for (B), I don't want to see apps without windows there.** --- For completeness: if it's easier/possible to hide these "apps without windows" altogether (without closing them), that's even better. With "hiding altogether", I mean: * hide them from command-tab; * hide them from the dock; * don't switch to them when changing space. When command tabbing, can I have it exclusively show only apps with document windows open?

There doesn't even seem to be a version of Premiere or Final Cut that will work with my system. This is all so crazy since in the 90s I was a video editor and used Premiere v3.

But what if I just want to attach my iphone to my arms and let the vibration guide my playing? I've tried multiple apps and only found "Pulse" works, although not great (it vibrates too lightly). Does anyone know any app that vibrates properly as a metronome?

I'm looking for extensions to allow the Safari 6.x versions to manage a large number of open tabs better than the current implementation. In particular I'm looking for two features: 1. *Vertical tabs*. This is possible in Firefox by means of the extension Tree Style Tab . 2. *App tabs*. In Firefox it is possible to pin tabs as _app tabs_. Up to know I've found and tried several times SafariStand but it doesn't look great and it doesn't provide the features of _Tree Style Tab_. I would really like to move from Firefox to Safari, but for the problem of "I have too many useful extensions in Firefox." :) Has anyone discovered extensions that add these features to Safari for OS X?

I'm looking for a free way to do AI-powered "text to speech", so I can copy-paste an article or document and have it read to me. I've tried say on the command line, but the lack of AI means it is much harder to comprehend. All of the non-AI TTS-libraries that I've found are also much harder to comprehend than the new generation of AI-powered TTS. Specifically, the new AI-powered TTS services seem to understand some of the meaning and structure of the sentence that is being read, and so they provide better natural cadence. This alleviates stress on the listener to parse the meaning of what is being read out. All of the apps I've come across so far have tried to get me to sign up for services that cost well in excess of $100 per year. My best alternative at the moment is to write my own code to use an API such as the Google Cloud text-to-speech API, but even that will cost me around $0.12 to speak a typical 1300-word article. Perhaps there is some kind of open-source software that works on Mac Silicon, that I can install to generate better speech from text?

I just found out from Apple techs that the clock alarm is supposed to stop all activities, such as making recordings, playing apps, etc. when the alarm goes off. I've had important recordings (work audio recordings, and my daughter playing music during a show, for example) get borked just because I forgot to turn off a not-so-important alarm. Anyway, does anyone have a good recommendation for a replacement clock/alarm clock app that is basic and has customizable and non-intrusive settings for the notifications/alarms?

Saying "Swipe left/right/up/down" implies the end result of the movement, not the actual direction of my fingers. Swiping right means go to the window right of my current window. Swiping down displays all your windows/desktop background. Swiping up does nothing. Really all I want, is to be able to **swipe up to Spotify from any window** or have a second set of windows on a level above the current, 1-dimensional horizontal window set. Made a simple mockup as to what I am describing. Row of six desktops labelled DESKTOP 1, PDF, CHROME, WORD, DESKTOP 2, PREMIERE, then atop the middle two, another row of two desktops labelled OUTLOOK and SPOTIFY. Is there already an app that allows things to work in this manner?

I'm seeking a Mac app for creating basic flowcharts and similar diagrams. Google has been no help; I've followed dozens of links to apps that either don't exist anymore, I can't find any real reviews of, or that won't run on OS X 10.6.6. What I'd really like: * A simple and clean interface * Basic shapes * Automated connectors that stay linked as you move shapes around * Inexpensive, preferably under $30 but definitely under $50 What I'm not looking for: * Hundreds of shapes * Default styles that have shadows and textures and such that I have to keep removing * Dozens of amazing features that allow you to automatically map databases and draw UML diagrams from code and such (I'm looking at you, Visio) that I have to constantly navigate around to make a few basic diagrams * A mind-mapping app with all the features such a thing entails, one that happens to also let you make basic diagrams * A full-fledged drawing app where, once again, I have to maneuver around a whole bunch of features and options to get to the basic functions I need. (I have Illustrator, I love Illustrator, but it's crap for basic flowcharts and other simple diagrams.) I wouldn't actually use it for flowcharts, but rather basic similar diagrams to show data flow between apps, information flow in a company or other places, that kind of thing. I recently found out that the drawing portion of Google Docs actually does a pretty good job with the types of diagrams I need to create, but the UI is pretty poor and it obviously requires a constant net connection.

I'm trying to learn a language from a video. For this I would like to loop part of a video indefinitely, and additionally be able to change the speed of the video while it's playing back. Is there any way to loop part of a video like this on macOS? The simplest way I can think of is by trimming the video with ffmpeg or QuickTime Player, but that would become quite cumbersome with multiple parts of the video. There's also an online service called Looptube which does that that I've been using (for YouTube videos), but it's quite buggy and doesn't work at all half the time, so I've given up using it.

Audio meter tool?
I'm looking for an audio meter tool that will attach to any input or output on my Mac and show me the audio levels on that channel. I need it to show me independent levels for stereo sources so I can tell if a source is playing only audio on one channel or another. Does anything like this exist?

However one thing missing is separate spaces. I used to have essential apps / documents on one 'main' monitor with others having multiple spaces. Now I have to switch the whole screen and have to go back and forth to find what I need. It's just a minor annoyance but I'm wondering are there apps to remedy this? By splitting one big screen into multiple smaller, virtual screens.

I have a Ultrawide monitor (21:9 aspect ratio 3440x1440px) and my colleagues find it annoying that when I share my screen on Zoom, Slack, Google Meet etc. it will get zoomed out so the wide aspect ratio will fit on their regular 16:9 monitors. In addition to that I often find that I like to keep something like a meeting agenda on the same screen without necessarily having it visible to meeting participants. Does anyone know of a piece of software for Mac OS that will allow me to assign a portion of my screen (i.e. the 16:9 bit, so the first 2560px in width and all 1440px in height) and let me expose that to screen sharing apps as an additional "virtual monitor". With Quicktime screen recording you can select a portion of the screen to record. I'm looking for something similar that will allow me to pipe that portion of the screen into screen sharing applications. Any ideas?
