Freehand Preview Pen Missing
**Context:**
Essentially preview has two pens - the shape pen, if you will, one which has automatic shape detection and will smooth out your shapes and lines after you draw them, and the freehandpen, one which is freehand, and can vary in thickness depending on the pressure applied to a (force) trackpad.
Why do we use the freehand pen? Well, put simply, personally I find that often the shape detection on the shape pen can get in the way of drawing what you intended, and at some point the frustration of having to switch back to the original drawing in the tab that appears on the top right can be annoying and makes you use the freehand.
**Question:**
A few hours ago the freehand tool disappeared. Yesterday I was using it fine, now it is gone.
I've also noticed (though I'm not sure if its always been there) that there is now an ability to make a note on the doc. You can see the disappearance of the pen below (on a PDF doc):
_____
Is this indicative of some preview update which has removed the freehand pen?
How can I get the freehand pen back?

Google has been no help; I've followed dozens of links to apps that either don't exist anymore, I can't find any real reviews of, or that won't run on OS X 10.6.6.
What I'd really like:
* A simple and clean interface
* Basic shapes
* Automated connectors that stay linked as you move shapes around
* Inexpensive, preferably under $30 but definitely under $50
What I'm not looking for:
* Hundreds of shapes
* Default styles that have shadows and textures and such that I have to keep removing
* Dozens of amazing features that allow you to automatically map databases and draw UML diagrams from code and such (I'm looking at you, Visio) that I have to constantly navigate around to make a few basic diagrams
* A mind-mapping app with all the features such a thing entails, one that happens to also let you make basic diagrams
* A full-fledged drawing app where, once again, I have to maneuver around a whole bunch of features and options to get to the basic functions I need. (I have Illustrator, I love Illustrator, but it's crap for basic flowcharts and other simple diagrams.)
I wouldn't actually use it for flowcharts, but rather basic similar diagrams to show data flow between apps, information flow in a company or other places, that kind of thing.
I recently found out that the drawing portion of Google Docs actually does a pretty good job with the types of diagrams I need to create, but the UI is pretty poor and it obviously requires a constant net connection.

I've heard that freeform will land on macOS in the last update Ventura 13.1 (22C65) and I've opened it and tried to recreate the sample image from the official Freeform marketing page with my small drawing tablet, but I can't find an option to begin drawing.

I want to illustrate technical ideas with it quickly and dirty, possibly sharing over a chat screen share. NOT create document-grade formal diagrams.
I tried Graffle and Affinity Designer. Didn't like them. They are like Photoshop (apps with 250 features) where I need just Ms Paint.
- has to support apple pencil on iPadOS 17.5
- it has to be unorthodox.
- It has to tidy up links and shapes
I want a free-drawing tool that converts my doodles into closest shape like circle or rectangle, wiggly lines into connectors. Optionally, I’d like writing converted to text.
It doesn't need to be perfect and formally looking. Even more - its a plus if it looks informally as if you sat with a colleague in a park a drew a diagram on paper whole discussing a problem at lunch.
It should be vector graphic (large zoom and no pixels) and have basic editing capabilities
Basically I want Notes.app (that's included) with additional feature - smoothing doodles into shapes and writing into text.
What apps meet these needs?

The program would:
1. Ingest a JPEG of my signature.
2. Create a hot-key that, when pressed,
3. Has me rubber-band the rectangle for the signature area, then...
4. Move the mouse to follow the ingested signature with the mouse button down, making programs like DocuSign think that I'm actually singing my signature.
Is there anything like that for the Mac or iPhone?

Visio is the most conspicuous example of a program that I found useful on Windows for which I have not identified a Mac-compatible equivalent.
Visio's primary function is as a flowchart diagramming tool. It allows the user to construct complex information flows with smart objects and interconnect graphics that snap and bend as the user moves things around on the page. It evolved over the years to support other diagram and information flow views like IT diagrams and UI mockups.
What's out there that can replace Visio on the Mac?

Looking for an iPad pencil compatible app with a large or infinite canvas
I tried Sketch and some other drawing apps. I’d like a bigger canvas to work with. Most seem to only be 8 1/2 by 11 or standard page size. Is there a way to expand the canvas on some of the basic drawing apps or is the a good app that provides a large drawing area?

I want to draw a couple lines when annotating a PDF with Preview.
But, when I get close to the first line, the tool automatically switches from a pen to a hand.
For example, if I try to hand-draw the symbol
∀

1. Draw a V
2. Try to draw the -
part
3. NOPE - Preview switches from "pen" tool to "hand"/grabber tool, and *moves* the V instead
Is there a way to turn off the hand tool so I can draw normally?

I am holding a presentation and want to write (with a Wacom graphic tablet) on the screen while presenting. My slides are created in Keynote, but I can use the exported .pdf document as well.
So far I've tried the following:
- Presentation/fullscreen mode of Keynote/Adobe/standard Mac pdf viewer and trying to comment directly via Zoom
**Problem**: instead of drawing, the next slide is displayed because my Mac thinks that I am clicking -- to circumvent this, I disabled advance on click in Keynote, but then I cannot even go to the next slide with my keyboard. - Fullscreen mode of Adobe/standard Mac pdf viewer and trying to use the built-in comment function of Adobe/smpv
**Problem**: I need to switch between presentation and drawing mode. And if I have a series of developing slides (i.e., where one bullet point becomes visible after the previous one) the drawing disappears (but I need the drawing displayed until all bullet points are displayed). I don't have any iOS device for remote presentation. (Honestly, really annoying that you can't just use the necessary features with a Mac.)

Recently I drew a simple line on a blank page in Preview. I realized, that if I export the Document via File > Export as PDF, and open the exported Document, I don't have the ability to move around and edit the line.
If I alternatively use File > Export and then choose 'Format: PDF' I can edit the exported file later.
So this lead me to the question, why there are 2 different PDF Export 'Formats' in Preview. I believe that this might pose a slight security risk, since editable PDF Documents can later be manipulated.

I would like to prepare hand-written notes (via One by Wacom tablet) for my educational purposes, therefore I would like to have a software which has
- ability to create infinite long (or big enough) canvas, where I can write using my tablet.
This is something similar to Notes or Word app, where one can write as much as they want, and pages keep on increasing.
Sketchbook seems to be promising, but resizing of canvas is not available in free version.
Krita seems to be very bulky for such simple tasks.
Can anyone suggest a free software which can fulfill this need?

I recently got the 2019 MacBook Pro and one thing different from my previous Windows machine is the lack of ShareX (a screenshot utility).
I like to take screenshots and not have them saved locally to my computer (I take hundreds of screenshots daily for work and send it to other people online, and that would take up a lot of space over time which is unnecessary since I can always just search on the messaging platform for that image). I noticed there's an option to save to the clipboard which is perfect except I cannot blur out personal info unless I save it and then edit the info out in the Preview app. Is there anyway to select stuff to blur out? I heard lightshot screenshot does exactly that but I want to make it so that I can click the screenshot button on my Macbook Pro's touchbar and have it take a screenshot.

A scenario I can imagine is that I am talking on Zoom and sharing my slides with my audience. Then I want to write on a blackboard to explain a concept with some drawing. I want to be able to switch to an app on Mac that is synced with the canvas on my iPad so that I can write on the iPad while the students can see my shared screen and writing in real-time through Zoom.

I've just bought an iPad 10.2 with an Apple Pencil for the purpose of using it as a portable drawing tablet. After finishing two pictures on it, I can say that it has some kind of a noticeable skew in its color/brightness/contrast for some reason.
Both my Android phone and my PC's flatscreen show that what looked like deep and crisp color. However, the 10.2 screen looks way lighter, more blurry and with far more noticeable brush edges where there were none on the iPad.
I was drawing in Ibis Paint, but judging by the fact that opening the image in the tablet's gallery app gave me the same results, it looks like the problem is either with the hardware, or with the system settings.
How do I make it work without manually tweaking every picture on my PC afterwards?
