It's not inside the screen, though it's literally on the screen, and it's not dirt. I couldn't find a similar problem here, but I think it's because of overheating, because it's in the same place that the Mac CPU is (when it closes).

I have 4 external monitors (non-mac) with MacBoook 16". 2 of them (C27JG5x and Optix G24C support 144GhZ.) I have a few issues with that.
- Apple **Displays** settings doesn't have an option to change the refresh rate.
![Screenshot of the Displays system preference pane ][1]
- I found an external program [Display Menu](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/display-menu/id549083868) that can do it.
![Screenshot of the program Display Menu showing display resolutions ][2]
Unfortunately, each time I unplug displays (or **Reboot**/put my Mac to sleep) the Refresh Rate setting resets to 60Ghz, however, macOS stills remember the **Display arrangement** and their resolutions.
Is there any way that Macbook would use the previous refresh rate settings as well?

iMac 27" - Late 2012 Model# A1419
Customer said they had the motherboard previously swapped out at another repair shop.
Displays abnormal picture with lines running vertically and horizontally.
It will eventually get stuck on a loading screen at what appears to be the half-way mark.
Tried resetting NVRAM or PRAM, booting from USB, starting from internet recovery, safe mode, and recovery mode.
I have also swapped out the hard drive with another freshly formatted drive and tried to boot from USB to do a fresh install of a new IOS.
I swapped out the RAM and got the same issue.
It appears to always end up on the final display picture below.
I have tried to enter the verbose mode as well, but it appears to either ignore the command and continue to the last display picture posted below.
When selecting WIFI in internet recovery the abnormal display will not be present.
Noticed a 3rd party power cord that the customer was using and not sure if that would affect anything.
I'll post the fix when or if customer decides to get it repaired.
UPDATE:
Customer has agreed to have motherboard replaced, so if that solves the issue I will return with an update.

I spilled a glass of water on my 2019 MacBook Pro. I immediately turned it off, then left it to drain for 48 hours.
After turning it on, the display remained black, but first I saw the whole Touch Bar and heard a voice saying "user name." I force-restarted it: now I just see the "esc" button on the Touch Bar, nothing else. The caps lock LED is working.
I tried with an external monitor without success.
I also tried to restart it in safe mode or reset the PRAM/NVRAM, but without luck.
Do you have any suggestions before I take it for repair?

How turn off the screen verification on macbook pro 2019
The screen of MacbookPro 2019 is broken, but I don't want to replace it now for economic reasons (external works well enough). As you may see the screen works just fine (despite on the broken pixels) either in Recovery Mode or in ordinary usage. ![the broken screen in recovery mode][1]

How can I repair xrandr? XFreeRdp use xrandr to detect screens in multiscreen mode and this is some issue to run XFreeRdp session only on 2 or 3 screens.

I am attempting to use Windows 7 for overall looks. (I am aware of the risks and I don‘t care.) However, whenever I attempt to boot into the partition that I installed it on, The following occurs.
1. The screen goes black.
2. Next, the top of the screen creates this strange loading flickering effect.
3. Finally, it stops and reverts to a black screen.
I have Open Core installed and that didn't change the boot process. Even without it the same results occur. I have used Windows 7 with and without UEFI booting. I suspect something is wrong with the recovery drive. If someone can, please respond, because I haven't seen anyone else experience this. The strangest part is that Windows 7 used to work and stopped after I uninstalled it once.
Here‘s a an image for description:

Apple website says that MacBook Pro screens can be cleaned with a 70-per cent isopropyl alcohol wipe, so I bought these on Amazon , but then I realized that most MacBook Pro have the glass panel on top of the screen, _unlike mine_.
Can I use those wipes on my screen, even if **it does not have** the glass panel on top?
**Note**: Simply using a wet cloth is not enough to remove the grease that transfers from the keyboard to the screen when the lid is closed.

I have the 2021 MacBook Pro, macOS Monterey 12.0
I have an external monitor hooked up to my MacBook. I use the MacBook as the "Main Display" and therefore the dock shows up on the MacBook screen.
If I use the shortcut Command+F1, (the shortcut switches between Mirroring and Extending the display), it makes my external display the Main Display and starts mirroring my external display on to the MacBook." My external display is an ultra wide so it makes the MacBook display weird, since it "optimizes" for the Main Display.
I'm not sure why it changes the Main Display? Is there a way to prevent that or a shortcut to switch the Main Display?
If I use the shortcut again, it goes back to normal with the MacBook screen being the Main Display.
Any app that can make switching also would help!

I have an Automator script (app) that simply does few clicks in an app. This script is launched via a calendar event. The script is scheduled and run from a different admin account than the account that is "physically" opened on the computer screen.
Here is how it goes : when I test the script while connected with Screen Sharing, the script run just fine. But if I leave the Screen Sharing app (the user session should still be running in background), the script return an error when launched by the calendar event **"Watch me do error : (OSStatus error -50)"**. If I do the same, but I schedule the script from the other admin account (the one "physically" opened on the computer screen), it runs fine.
I already set the permissions in Privacy settings to the script.
It seems to be a problem of Automator script execution when runned on a "not on the screen" user account.

External display will not achieve full brightness?

My external display (HP 27f 4k ) will not achieve full brightness when connected to my M1 MacBook Pro (2020, 13", Ventura 13.2) via the official Apple USB-C HDMI adapter .
- The display's brightness is cranked all the way up
- "*True Tone*" is off
- "*Automatically adjust brightness*" is off
- "*Slightly dim display on battery*" is off
- I've recalibrated the display color, gamma, and white point (in macOS) and then restored it back to the factory default (because it made no difference to the brightness)
I noticed this because I sometimes need to use a Windows laptop with this display. The monitor on Windows was noticeably brighter. So, I measured the brightness with a screen calibration tool and compared the results of the same monitor in the same location (all the same external variables) with the monitor plugged into my MacBook and then into a Windows laptop. I measured against a fullscreen browser window displaying a page with nothing but
#FFFFFF
(white) as the background color. Results:
- 290 nits from the MacBook
- 335 nits from the Windows laptop
What's going on here?
I suspect this is a software thing because I *think* I've seen the display snap from full brightness to this dimmed state after login. I say "think" because now that I've decided to write this post, I can't reproduce it. But my memory is that I'll log in, and seconds after the desktop is displayed, the brightness snaps to this dimmed state.

I am using Spectacle to assign shortcuts like "windows" to maximize a window, which works well and I recommend it.
However, is there any application to maximize a window like the way you can do it on a Windows laptop/pc, just by pushing the window to the top of the screen?
Note: I mean maximize window, not fullscreen.

If I use DisplayPort(this monitor supports up to version 1.2) then my mouse starts to lag/skip which is really annoying.
If I use an HDMI cord, with [this](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07THJGZ9Z) adapter, my external screen goes black about every 20-30 minutes for a second or two and then back to normal. I'm using 2560x1440 resolution on my external monitor w/ 50 Hertz refresh rate(I tried 60, same thing).
At this point I'm not sure what I should buy. I'm considering either:
1. Get this [DisplayPort cable](https://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-uni-Thunderbolt-Compatible-More-Gray/dp/B075V27G2R) or
2. Get an HDMI to USB-C cord without an adapter.
Could you please recommend what's better, I'm not really sure what specs I should check on the monitor to figure out which route to go.
Thanks so much.

On my M1 MacBook Air I can check the "Screen On Usage" for the last 10 days:
What I would be interested in is how much time I spent actively using the machine since I last charged to 100%.
Of course I could combine the information visible here, and try to estimate from the bar chart how many minutes I have spent per day - but this is tedious and not very exact, as the axis of the lower graph only shows intervals of one hour.
Is there any better way to get this information without having to resort to commercial apps? Obviously the information I need is available, but I do not know where to find it.

I have a **Macbook Pro Retina 13" Late 2012**, with **macOS Mojave / Ubuntu 24.04 dual boot** installed. A few days ago, while using Ubuntu, suddenly, the screen was striped black and white. I forced restart, and first, the Ubuntu startup display was shown, but before login, it turned striped again. Then I booted from macOS, which worked fine, even reading a PDF worked, but suddenly, the upper half of the screen was striped the same way, the lower half worked for another minute, until the screen slowly faded dark. Since then, the **display stays totally black, not even showing the startup screen** (Apple or Ubuntu with progress indicators), startup volume selection screen ('option' at startup), or any background light – totally black.
**Everything else works fine** in both OS. Sound works, and I can normally operate the macbook with an beamer (don't have an external monitor). Even the internal **Webcam works** (I tried it with Photo Booth), and when I close the lid, the macbook goes to sleep. (Just the illuminated apple sign on the back does not work).
**Here is what I tried:**
- checking power supply, charging battery, endless number of forced and normal restarts, waiting a few days, adjusting brightness...
- Safe Mode ('shift'), SMC reset ('shift+option+ctrl+power'), NVRAM reset ('cmd+option+p+r'), Single-User Mode ('cmd+s'), Booting in Recovery Mode – everything works as expected, but internal display stays black.
- Running Apple Diagnosis ('d' at startup) – there, it says 'Error: Cannot Load EFI/Drivers/TestSupport.efi'
- shaking the macbook a bit (I found this online, to fix loose connections inside)
'About This Mac > Display' shows 'EPSON PJ' (the beamer, I suppose) when the beamer is connected, and 'Intel GPU' as graphic card. When I disconnect the beamer (take a screenshot and view the screenshot by connecting the beamer again), it shows 'Internal Display, 13,9"', but without any GPU.
Now I know, it's a very old macbook, but until now, everything worked fine. I even installed Ubuntu a week or two ago, to get security updates and keep using the macbook, as it is still fast and very usable. Could the dual boot/Ubuntu be a problem? Or is it just a bad coincidence that the display broke shortly after the installation?
Does anyone have any other idea what might be the reason? And how to fix it? Should I try a fresh install? Or opening the macbook and checking the internal connection?
If you'd say the display is broken and the only way would be replacing it, where can I find a cheap replacement display? Would you say it's worth it?

Now that El Capitan supports split screen in full screen mode, is there a way to split screen natively with two apps in horizontal split, in full screen mode.
I searched everywhere and I am able to place two apps side by side but not top and bottom. I have also tried reducing window sizes of apps so that they fit well when in horizontal split mode. But still I never get the option of putting one on top of another.
Is there any other settings I need to enable? I have enabled

I am new here and have a question regarding black screen on a MacBook Pro early 2013. A few weeks ago I updated to Catalina and just some time after the screen went black. It chimes at startup and sometimes the screen lits up with the Apple logo and the startup boot line. When the boot is almost finished the screen blacks out. I can see the login screen and be logged in and work on it by screen sharing from my mac mini. But I can’t see the booting process or go into other modes such as disk utility or restore from the mag mini. I have re-installed catalina with no luck, and I seem not be able to reinstall an older version as mojave. It gives an error that the installer is too old.
Battery is exchanged and screen cable attachment to the main board has been checked.
Any clues of what it can be? I would like to install mojave just to be sure that catalina is not doing anything, but I have no more ideas of how to proceed.
Additions as of 27 December. I thought I solved it with switching of GPU. I managed to get full startup sequence with functioning screen. But I can’t reproduce it. I am trying gswitch and it does not matter if I use the internal or discrete GPU setting. Same black screen and intermittent pattern of Apple logo visible during startup. I noticed that when it started up normally there was a slight dimming of the Apple logo, at the same time spot as the screen shuts down. So there is something in the startup sequence that does some switching of GPU; either is works with some slight dimming or it gets black.
