I use to have a Bootcamp partition, which was about 100Gb, but it has disappeared from the boot options and I am not sure if it still exists on my HD. I am looking to sell this iMac, so I was going to try and remove this partition anyway, but I don't want to sell it if someone could recover it and access my login. I have been trying *Disk Utility > First Aid* on the drive I have also been running /sbin/fsck -fy in Single User mode. This is the current situation of my HDD. 1. Does the Windows partition still exist? 2. As I didn't remove the partition/windows installation properly from BootCamp Assistant, can it be recovered? 3. If I perform the *Recovery > Re-install MacOS* for the sale, will this wipe the entire 1TB disk properly? enter image description here EDIT After running diskutil ap resizecontainer disk2 0b I am getting the error object map is invalid enter image description here

How do I go about installing the drivers I need for this version of Windows?

I just installed Ubuntu 22.04 on a partition. I'd like macOS 10.14.6 to be the default system to boot and having the possibility to choose Ubuntu only if I hold option key to get into the Mac startup manager, but Ubuntu takes over as the default system every time after I log into it.
My first try was changing the boot order with
efibootmgr -o xxxx,xxxx
, and the second one was entering the Mac startup manager by holding option, then select the macOS option by pressing ctrl while clicking on the ↑ icon under macOS boot device.
Both work on the immediate (I automatically log into macOS if I reboot from both systems) but the first time I boot Ubuntu one of the described actions need to be remade (boot order is reset and Ubuntu is first again), otherwise if I reboot the computer, I need to get into the startup manager to not get automatically into Ubuntu.
How could I **permanently** set macOS as the default boot option independently from the last used OS?

Always start the Mac to Startup Manager without having to press and hold the Option key
I frequently switch between mac OS and Bootcamp. So I was wondering if there is an option to not have a preferred Startup Disk and always start to the Startup Manager, like you would get when pressing the option key while booting. Google couldn’t help so your support is much appreciated.

1. How can I protect iCloud Drive contents when deleting files from a mac ***with multiple OS installs***, i.e. from a offline local copy? I have multiple macOS installs on my Mac. I think, some time ago, without thinking through the consequences 'till now, I may have deleted "extra copies" of some large files from iCloud Drive in one of the offline installs - but **not** the main one that is currently booted. I'm thinking that if I log into the copy of macOS with the "extra copies", the mac will sync with iCloud, and thereby **delete the files from iCloud (the cloud copy)**. **2. Correct?** (And I presume later, when I log into my main OS, it will delete them from that install's local copy too - assuming there even is a locally cached copy. **3. Correct?**) 4. Assuming I've already done this - deleted "extra copies" from an offline copy of the OS - how can I prevent losing the other copies? Way to detect that I've done this? I presume there are a few ways to do this, wondering what the best are. I suppose I could delete and never use the other OS installs, but I'm looking for a less brute-force option. 5. Is there a way to tell the OS not to trust the local cache? I guess this is a variation of the issue where people delete photos from devices sync'd with iCloud, ignoring the warning of the consequences (the warning). But on MacOS, there's no such warning - it's presumed the user knows what they're doing. I may have been smart enough to turn off iCloud Drive while logged in to the other OS before deleting stuff, but I'm not sure. That would have been the smart thing to do. Note: I have NOT activated iCloud Drive for "Desktop & Documents" on any of the installs. I have for everything else.

I'm trying to use an external drive to contain a Windows install and a Big Sur install, but I'm having trouble configuring the boot options on a MacBook Pro 2018. I partitioned the external drive to have a Windows Partition and a macOS partition and installed rEFInd to the external drive in order to choose which partition to boot from. This is the process I would like to have when starting up my MacBook: I would like to always boot up to macOS main install on the internal drive unless I hold option on startup, which would let me choose between macOS on the internal drive or to startup rEFInd, which will then let me choose an OS from the external drive (a second Big Sur install or the Windows parition). Right now - I've managed to have rEFInd boot up whenever the external drive is plugged in, but whenever it's not plugged in the question mark folder pops up unless I press option to allow me to select my internal macOS install. Anybody have any ideas on where to look to learn how to configure rEFInd or learn more about the booting process here?

I'd like to use a clean install of the latest Big Sur (11.4 or 11.5) on a machine that currently has Yosemite installed. I'd like to keep using Yosemite due to some legacy apps/licenses. - Ideally I'd like to edit the same files from both Yosemite and Big Sur - I've also considered accessing data and installing/running an app on a different partition to the one with the OS - However, I'm realising that there could be challenges due to the HFS and APFS formatting --- I have Yosemite (10.10.3) installed on the Macintosh HD partition. I have two other partitions which I use as data storage (e.g. Word, Excel files). P1) Macintosh HD (480GB, Yosemite already installed) P2) 2 - 430GB P3) 5 - 90gb Scenario (i): P1) Macintosh HD (480GB, Yosemite already installed) P2) 2 - 430GB (Big Sur would be installed) P3) 5 - 90gb Scenario (ii): P1) Macintosh HD (480GB, Yosemite already installed) P2) 2 - 430GB P3) 5 - 90gb (Big Sur would be installed) All three partitions according the disk util are: File System Personality: Journaled HFS+ Type (Bundle): hfs **Question that arises:** 1) With reference to the two scenarios above, is it possible to access (both read & write) files (e.g. a Word document) and or run apps stored on a different partition than the one with the running OS?...Or will the partition (with the other OS installed) no longer be visible? A.) If yes, how does this work if one of the drives is JHFS+ and the other is APFS? B.) If not, would it be better to store data on a partition that doesn't have any OS installed (used almost like an external SDD except that it's internal)? C.) Would there be any issues from installing apps not on the same partition as the one with OS-installed? E.g. app files that need to be located in the system, caches, application support and library folders Machine: MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) 1TB SSD (3 Partitions): /dev/disk0 #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER 0: GUID_partition_scheme *1.0 TB disk0 1: EFI EFI 209.7 MB disk0s1 2: Apple_HFS Macintosh HD 479.5 GB disk0s2 3: Apple_Boot Recovery HD 650.0 MB disk0s3 4: Apple_HFS 2 - 430GB 430.3 GB disk0s4 5: Apple_HFS 5 - 90gb 89.7 GB disk0s5 I've made an attempt to answer my question below but I'm still unclear on a few points (I've added my research with links there).

I am running a non-retina 15' 2012 Macbook Pro with Mojave 1.14.4. I had some apps for work that I can only run on Windows but I am not willing to download the full Windows 10 with all the bloatwares that it has. So I found some reputable custom Windows 10 Lite iso files in hope of having a lighter version of Windows I could use without worrying about Windows update or all its bloatware. Though, Boot Camp Assistant rejected installing the file with this popup: . The iso I'm trying to install is a 64bit iso as well and with some digging, I found that Boot Camp only allows installation of official Windows 10 iso files downloaded straight from Microsoft. Is there a way I could bypass this pop-up altogether and proceed with my installation? Or if there are any Windows 10 iso that works will be great. Worst case scenario I guess I will have to install the full Windows 10 iso. Thanks in advance.

I have a MacBook Pro early 2011 which suffers the well known problem with the AMD discrete graphic card. There were artifacts on the screen, therefore I decided to disable it by entering some commands I found on the internet (I don't remember exactly which procedure I followed, I think I used a live Ubuntu distro or entered some console commands before start upping the system: I entered something like "kext" and so on...). Now the Mac works well in MacOS with only the integrated Intel graphic card and I am pretty satisfied by it. I would like now to dual boot the system installing Windows 10 in a second partition using the hybrid GPT/MBR approach, as well described in the following question: https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/308743/how-to-install-windows-10-into-a-2011-imac-without-using-the-boot-camp-assistant Unfortunately, I get stuck at point 10). When booting for the first time after having modified the partition with disport, I would be supposed to begin installing Windows 10, but all I get is a black screen. I suspect this is done because of my faulty graphic card. Could that be that Windows is trying to use the discrete AMD card instead of the integrated Intel? How can I guess what's going when the black screen is displayed? Is there some log I can access through another OS and debug?

I have a **Macbook Pro Retina 13" Late 2012**, with **macOS Mojave / Ubuntu 24.04 dual boot** installed. A few days ago, while using Ubuntu, suddenly, the screen was striped black and white. I forced restart, and first, the Ubuntu startup display was shown, but before login, it turned striped again. Then I booted from macOS, which worked fine, even reading a PDF worked, but suddenly, the upper half of the screen was striped the same way, the lower half worked for another minute, until the screen slowly faded dark. Since then, the **display stays totally black, not even showing the startup screen** (Apple or Ubuntu with progress indicators), startup volume selection screen ('option' at startup), or any background light – totally black. **Everything else works fine** in both OS. Sound works, and I can normally operate the macbook with an beamer (don't have an external monitor). Even the internal **Webcam works** (I tried it with Photo Booth), and when I close the lid, the macbook goes to sleep. (Just the illuminated apple sign on the back does not work). **Here is what I tried:** - checking power supply, charging battery, endless number of forced and normal restarts, waiting a few days, adjusting brightness... - Safe Mode ('shift'), SMC reset ('shift+option+ctrl+power'), NVRAM reset ('cmd+option+p+r'), Single-User Mode ('cmd+s'), Booting in Recovery Mode – everything works as expected, but internal display stays black. - Running Apple Diagnosis ('d' at startup) – there, it says 'Error: Cannot Load EFI/Drivers/TestSupport.efi' - shaking the macbook a bit (I found this online, to fix loose connections inside) 'About This Mac > Display' shows 'EPSON PJ' (the beamer, I suppose) when the beamer is connected, and 'Intel GPU' as graphic card. When I disconnect the beamer (take a screenshot and view the screenshot by connecting the beamer again), it shows 'Internal Display, 13,9"', but without any GPU. Now I know, it's a very old macbook, but until now, everything worked fine. I even installed Ubuntu a week or two ago, to get security updates and keep using the macbook, as it is still fast and very usable. Could the dual boot/Ubuntu be a problem? Or is it just a bad coincidence that the display broke shortly after the installation? Does anyone have any other idea what might be the reason? And how to fix it? Should I try a fresh install? Or opening the macbook and checking the internal connection? If you'd say the display is broken and the only way would be replacing it, where can I find a cheap replacement display? Would you say it's worth it?

I'm currently dual-booting High Sierra (HS) and Catalina on a 2014 MacBook Pro without issues. HS is my primary OS; I use Catalina for programs that will no longer run on HS (e.g., Turbo Tax). I'm thinking of upgrading the Catalina partition to Big Sur (BS). The only issue I've found in my reading is that BS must be installed in a separate container (i.e., a separate partition) from HS, not merely a separate volume in the same container.* My question is: *Are there any other issues of which I need to be aware?* *According to this reddit post, installing BS in one volume of a container will cause changes to the container as a whole, and these changes are incompatible with HS. Thus, even though HS and BS both use APFS, they need to be in separate containers. https://www.reddit.com/r/hackintosh/comments/jun2n2/beware_dont_install_big_sur_in_the_same_apfs/ Here's a post from the Apple forums by a user who installed BS in the same container as HS, and lost access to his HS installation as a result: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252049166

Then shrank the drive and created a new partition (with Disk Utility, while logged in normally) for Linux; booted Linux from a thumbdrive and installed it on that partition (mount point /). Now it will only boot into the Linux partition. Hitting "escape" at startup gets me to a grub command screen. Any way to restore the boot sequence so I can see both OSes as options on boot? Or do I need to start all over, delete everything, and this time use rEFInd?
