I'm using Boot Camp on my Mac and the audio seems incredibly bad. According to what I can find in settings, it is 16-bit. Usually there are more options than this. I've heard online that this is Apple's fault for including bad drivers, but I am wondering if there is a way around it or some third-party drivers that I can install. I've tried re downloading the drivers and looking through all of the settings. There is an enhance option which only seems to make the sound louder which then makes it sound worse. I've looked through 12 pages of Google searches and I can't find any fixes. Any help, ideas or suggestions are appreciated.enter image description here

Is anyone able to install a generic printer driver for old Canon printers? I have an old MP140 for which Canon is no longer updating drivers. My Mac doesn't automatically find any drivers so I'm stuck trying to add the printer without any drivers - which my Mac keeps me from doing by graying out the *Add* button: screenshot I'm hoping to find a way to get this printer running with some generic 3rd (4th even!) party software. I tried connecting the printer via USB cable and ran into the same problem.

I have a 2020 MacBook Air running Ventura 13.2 and would like to use an old LG CD reader ("Portable Super Multi Drive") to read a CD. But when I plug it in (and, for good measure, also plug the drive's cable's extra USB-A cable into a power source to make sure it's getting enough power), the CD spins vigorously as it should (i.e., there is enough power flowing to it, and it recognizes that it has been plugged in) but no disk mounts on my laptop. I tried diskutil list, but it did not appear there either. I suspect the problem is that I am missing the driver for this particular LG drive. But I was unable to find a way to download such a driver from LG or any other source on the internet. How can I make this drive work with my laptop (whether by finding the appropriate driver or by using some other tool -- ideally FOSS)? (I am happy for it to be either GUI or CLI; all I want to do is to be able to copy data from the CD to my laptop.)

This problem has been bugging me for a while now and I'm not sure what to make of it. When AppleIntelHD5000Graphics.kext gets loaded up the display freezes wherever it was. This usually happens right after the desktop loads but sometimes it will last 2-3 minutes before locking up and sometimes it will freeze before boot up finishes (Apple logo screen). I know it is this particular driver because I never have the issue in single user mode, recovery mode, or running Linux. It also won't freeze after a "normal boot" if I don't let it load that particular kext. Animations are very choppy and the computer will run much warmer but that is to be somewhat expected given that there is no "hardware acceleration". Curiously enough, if I plug an external monitor into the HDMI port while its booting it will run both displays with no issue. I can also verify that (at least part of) the OS is still running because I can SSH into it. However, I cannot get VNC to connect. I have tried resetting both the SMC and NVRAM and that hasn't done much of anything. At this point I have exhausted my current knowledge. Does anyone have any idea where the problem could be? Or what else I could do to debug? PS: Diagnostics say everything is fine

I am recently attempting to program STM32 microcontrollers under macOS, and I used my CMSIS-DAP compatible interface to flash the microcontroller. Normally an CMSIS-DAP interface would appear as a USB composite device: it contains an HID device which is used to access the debug port on STM32, and another one as USB CDC ACM serial port (from which you can access a physical serial port on the interface). Under macOS, CDC serial ports are supposed to be recognized as /dev/tty.usbmodemXXX, but it wouldn't appear on my Mac at all. Later I would find out it was actually recognized as a dial up modem (in Network tab of system preferences): CMSIS-DAP Link interface recognized as modem Of course I didn't like what macOS did so I tried deleting the device from Network tab and chose "No" when it asks me whether I want it to reappear next time I plug it in, hoping it would let me access the raw serial port device when network services is not trying to occupy it, and it did not. Serial port devices still doesn't show up. Later it turns out Apple left no way to undo that so I can't restore my computer to how it behaved in the beginning. From the ioreg output (after I deleted it from Network and did a bit more research on how to show macOS device hierachy) I can see CDC ACM driver is picking up the CDC serial port part of the composite device but apparently IOSerialBSDClient is not present, meaning serial port is of course not available.

The problem here is: 1. Will I be able to **make** macOS stop using a dialup modem driver in my system, and just let CDC ACM serial ports be TTY serial ports? Or force it use serial port driver for this device? 2. How do I let the modem driver pick it up again (i.e. just undo the delete)? I already tried everything in [an earlier post](https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/454378/how-you-bring-back-a-network-interface-after-choosing-no-to-would-you-like-usb) and it would not work. (The CMSIS-DAP interface's flashing ability is totally fine. Just missing the virtual serial port device from macOS. It would work under my Windows computer and even in Asahi Linux)

I have two Macs: - One I upgraded to High Sierra without wiping it. All my existing printer drivers function properly. - The second Mac I upgraded fresh to High Sierra after a complete wipe. The printer drivers aren't working. I have a Konica Minolta Magicolor 7540 Grafx II. On the machine with the fresh OS install, the option for duplexing 11x17 is missing. I've tried several different versions of the driver, from various sources, and when I can get it to duplex, it only prints out the left hand side of the page. On one side of the double-sided print, it prints the left hand side of the page, properly positioned on the left hand side of the paper. One the second side of the duplex print, it prints the left hand side of the paper, but it is scooted over to the right, so there is a huge blank space on the left. Is there a way to transfer all the properly function print drivers from one mac to another? I have tried copying the file from "Library -> Printers ->" and "Users -> Library -> Printers." That does indeed give me a second installation of the printer, but the duplexing issue is still there. Konica has not upgraded their print driver for almost two years, so simply downloading a new one for OS 10.13 isn't possible. The print driver that currently functions properly on my upgraded machine is version 1.7. I have tried downloading new drivers, both of version 1.9 and version 1.7. I have tried copying the Printer settings from the old machine to the new machine. I've tried using the "Add Printer" function in the system preferences. I don't know what else to try. Can anyone assist?

The printer (HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 (N911g)) stopped working after upgrading the printer driver as per 'HP Easy Start'. Every print job now times out and all there is to see in the Print Queue application is the message "Printing – Filter failed". The logs in /var/log/cups show no indication of anything wrong. The log System Report shows that 'Inkjet3' crashed. (/Library/Printers/hp/cups/Inkjet3.driver/Contents/MacOS/Inkjet3) > Termination Reason: DYLD, [0x4] Symbol missing > > Dyld Error Message: > Symbol not found: _cupsRasterOpen > Referenced from: /Library/Printers/hp/cups/Inkjet3.driver/Contents/MacOS/Inkjet3 > Expected in: /usr/lib/libcups.2.dylib Printer is connected via USB. Drivers I tried amonng others from HP were: - hp-printer-essentials-S-5_14_8_4.pkg - hp-printer-essentials-H-5_15_5_5.pkg Which all seem to report version number '4.5.0' to the system. The packages available from 'HP Easy Admin' for various macOS versions are all the same down to MacOSX 10.9: "Essential Software 5.10.5.5" 164,4MB In that state the printer is accepting test-pages from HP utilities and printing them just fine! Things not resolving the issue: - re-installing the latest driver package(s) - deleting the printer and re-adding the printer from the PreferencePane - resetting the print system (including a reboot before adding printers) Workaround to get it to print: 1. resetting the print system 2. deleting the entire folders /Library/Printers/hp and /Library/Printers/PPDs 3. adding the printer anew only now it automatically downloads old Apple provided drivers? Version is identifying as '4.1.1' This brings ink to paper. (AFAIK among the changes made in a later update by HP was a better ink-economy, so this is financially worth-while to update, if not necessary. The same driver version number is reported if one uses a recent HP forum suggestion to install 'HPPrinterDrivers5.1.dmg' from HP.) When in that state another attempt to upgrade the drivers is made, it again ends up at the exact same starting point: no printing "Filter failed"/Inkjet3 crashing… Related questions not resolving this issue: - https://apple.stackexchange.com/q/107362 (listing the same non-descript error message as presented to users) - https://apple.stackexchange.com/q/404993/ (showing some issues a few weeks ago that disabled HP devices generally with a driver update because of some certificate trouble) Looking through other forums, including those from HP, I do not see any solution that allows me printing from macOS 10.12 Sierra to that device with up-to-date drivers. Printer driver version number as reported to the system 4.1.1 seems to work, version 4.5.0 does not. How do I get this device to print with the latest working drivers?

I have tried to configure the HP1606DN printer via IP address, direct driver download, EasySetup, and HP Smart: none have worked. For newer printers my preference for installation is to connect via IP address and then hopefully the printer will download the drivers properly. For the HP1606DN I believe that were the case in the past: but it is not working now because only Generic PostScript or an incompatible HP printer type are available. So I have downloaded the HP driver from https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-laserjet-pro-p1606-printer-series/4110408/model/4110409 enter image description here [![enter image description here]] I installed EasySetup 2 and then connected by USB (I'd prefer to do ethernet but apparently we need a physical connection ??) It asks me to install yet _another_ program HP Smart. This is obviously troubling - since too many programs mean too many chances for the programs to fail or get confused. Then the HP Smart setup program *still* does not recognize the printer - it hangs here: enter image description here And it can't find the (correctly attached) USB enter image description here Note that I had previously tried using drivers directly: HPPrinterDrivers5.1.dmg > This volume does not meet the requirements for this update I am at a loss to how to get this (relatively recent!) printer to work with _macOS Big Sur. Has anyone succeeded? enter image description here

I realise that the recommended way of obtaining the latest drivers for Boot Camp is via Apple's official Boot Camp Assistant built into macOS, but was wondering if Apple offers an official index that can be used to easily obtain archival versions of the drivers that have been posted to the Apple website. Some simple searching has allowed me to find several different versions - through Boot Camp 2 to version 5, but as far as I can see, there's no "Boot Camp Downloads" page or similar from where these can all be found in a simple list.

Note: This is not possible on a Windows machine with ASIO4ALL, as the A&H Windows driver cannot distinguish between the two mixers. I am hoping that on a Mac, this can be done as there are no drivers required on a Mac.

I have a mouse that I bought from eBay and has two buttons on the side. For some reason, these keys don't do anything. In the modifier keys section of the keyboard settings, it called the mouse "SiliconWin mouse", I changed all the keys to command and no command worked. I thought these keys served no purpose but I later found if I pressed an application in the dock with the key, it would do the same thing as a right-click. Again I checked and tried to use the keys as right-clicks but did not work. Is it possible to change the functionality of the key? P.S. I tried setting keyboard up and it asked me to press the button to the right of shift, I pressed everything and did not work. If I search up SiliconWin, it comes up with Windows driver and no mac drivers.
