Last night I was driving home and said "hey siri, play metric". Metric is a local band and I have one of their albums on my iPhone. Siri responded by subscribing me to Apple Music and playing the songs from there. I have noticed similar things in the past. I will ask it to play an artist or album that I have on my phone, and it previously would tell me I don't have Apple Music and would not play it. Is there some way to turn this off, or some magic phrase I can use to tell it to look only in my local library? I do not have Apple Music and will never subscribe, I simply want to listen to the (large amount) of music I already have.

I recently upgraded my older iMac 2015 to macOS 12. Now I noticed the Music App does not save any settings I made while using Music, i.e. if I change the width of the left column this setting is lost when closing Music, the column is the same size as at last start. Or the last selected section/playlist will be lost too, Music starts at the same point every time on open. I assume there is a settings file or database where all those settings will be saved on closing the app, but I am not able to find this file. Is there anything I can do to have Music save the settings?

No Apple helper pops up and asks if I want to send a crash report to Apple, so I assume that it is not crashing Music. I tried running Music in safe mode, and got the same behaviour. How do I restore the ability to control music playing on my Mac from my iPhone? I'm running Music 1.5.5.34 on my M1 Pro laptop running Sequoia 15.5, and iPhone 14 Pro with iOS 18.5.

Fix Music.app metadata from cloud?
Many of the songs in my Apple Music Library have inconsistent metadata (years missing, titles misspelled, etc.) This is weird, because it was once all correct. I suspect that Apple hasn't migrated my music properly over the years. Is there any way to "fix" the metadata by going to cloud databases?

This issue has been driving me nuts: if I listen to music or a podcast, pause it, and then activate Siri using “Hey Siri,” the moment the Siri interaction ends it resumes playing the music/podcast, even though it has been paused before. This is natural behavior for when I interrupt playing audio, but very annoying when I’m driving with no music on. I’ve tested this and it happens with Spotify and the Apple Podcasts app, suggesting it’s a system-level issue. It doesn’t happen if there’s nothing playing in the “now playing” drop down in control center. It also doesn’t happen is I force quit the audio app before activating Siri. Is there some setting I can tweak to change this behavior, or is this just a bug?

I have 3 playlists synced to my iPhone: The two regular playlists (as matches for the rules in this photo), as well as the smart playlist created by the rules in the photo. In other words, the smart playlist shown is a subset of other music that is synced to my iPhone. Will the smart playlist with live updating enabled automatically update itself to contain 8 hours of music selected by least recently played without syncing to iTunes? iOS 13.x enter image description here **Update**: Seems to be a definite "Maybe". I ran the playlist defined above 2 days in a row and got multiple repeats on the 2nd day of songs that were played on the 1st day. The playlist is limited to 8hrs by least recently played of over 24hrs of available music. The playtime each day was less than 90 minutes. This is what the playlist looked like on iOS 13's Music app. Perhaps the "Updated Yesterday" detail has something to do with it. enter image description here

I have a large music library (200GB/14.000 tracks), with files spanning well over a decade. I'm on a temporary Mac for the next month or two, so I'm keeping the files and library on an extremely fast external SSD (Sandisk Extreme Pro - Thunderbolt 3). When I quit the Music app on macOS, a popup alert window that reads "Saving Music Library..." appears, and then just... doesn't go away. The program is not unresponsive according to the Finder/the Force Quit dialogue. It's just trying to save, and it's taking forever. I don't know if this is an SSD issue or not. The library contains thousands of hours of work, so I'm apprehensive about cutting down the library. Setup: - MacBook Pro M1 Max - 64GB memory - Music Version 1.2.4. As a layman, I would hope I could look at logs or something, to see what may be causing these delays. Is there a way to isolate or troubleshoot this sort of problem?

Can someone explain what triggers the downloading of music files to my iPad mini? I have been enjoying the *Apple Music Classical* app daily, and occasionally the *Apple Music* app. I want to remember albums, performers, and composers. But I do not have enough storage to download the music. Unfortunately, my iPad is mysteriously filling its storage with downloaded music files. I have not tried to download any of them, I just want to stream only. But the downloads just keep coming. I have been deleting the music files individually in the Settings app > Apps > Music > Downloaded Music. But they keep on reappearing. It has become a near daily battle of deleting one file after another tediously, just to keep my iPad mini operational. I have turned off “Automatic Downloads.” I have been marking many things as “favorite” so that I might find them again later. But according to the manual and the AIs this should not trigger downloading.

I often use Siri to play songs on my iPhone 12 Pro while driving. After recently updating to iOS 18.5 Siri always responds with: *"I couldn't find SONGNAME in your Apple music Library"*. Despite that I can manually navigate to said files and play them with Apple Music. All the music is stored on my phone and I do not use any subscription services to access music. I can still use Siri to play songs via playlists, just not individual song names like I used to. There is chatter about this issue in this subreddit but nothing substantial, only mentions of other users having similar issues with 18.5. # Steps I have tried to remedy the problem: - In another subreddit a users suggests toggling > Settings > Apps > Music > Show Apple Music, but doing this had no effect. - I also tried restarting my phone but that didn't work either. - Synching all songs and playlists from Itunes on PC. None of these worked. Does anyone know how I can restore the original functionality of Siri to be able to ask it to play specific songs?

I have a large collection of mp3 files that I want to listen to on my iPhone. I do not have an Apple Music subscription. I have used iTunes on Windows to add a subset of my songs to its library and sync'ed it to my iPhone. I have afterwards reset my Windows box and lost my iTunes library. At this point, I have a bunch of songs on my iPhone and I'd like to re-create the library automatically. I already have code that uses the iTunes.Application com object to interact with iTunes on Windows, so that's covered. However, I need to be able to fetch the list of the songs I have on the iPhone and so far I've been unable to find a way to retrieve it (since we're talking about a few thousands of songs, I don't want to do it by hand). Is there a way of retrieving the music metadata from my iPhone? At the very least I want song metadata (track name/artist/album/duration), ideally I want file sizes too to make it easier to match back to my original collection. Note that I have both a Windows and a MacOS box so any ad-hoc solution will do, including AppleScript.

Why would Apple create such a great resource while effectively hiding it?

The text input autocomplete in the Music app is really intrusive. Most apps won't replace your text unless you choose to use the autocomplete suggestions, but Music replaces what you typed or simply adds in text without any additional input. This is in places like get info or editing rules for a smart playlist. It will substitute existing values in place of what you are typing. This is really annoying if you want to type something that doesn't exist yet, but partially matches. I would love to figure out how to disable this. Example of trying to type "heaters" where in one case it adds a whole bunch of text after the "h", the other where it leaves me with a capital "H" I have to go back and fix. bad autocomplete

I would like to batch modify metadata for local music files (mainly AAC in m4a, with some mp3) in my local music library from the macOS Apple Music app using regex. Specifically, I'd like to retitle tracks using matching groups from a regex on the existing title. Can this be done via any Apple scripting facilities, like the Shortcuts app, the Automator app, or any other Apple-provided scripting? In Shortcuts, I tried to pass the output from a "Find Music" action to a "Run JavaScript for Mac Automation" action, but I keep getting errors (like The operation couldn’t be completed. (WFMacHelperErrorDomain error 1.) even when I don't modify the run function at all) no matter what I do. If not, do any third-party scripting facilities work with the Apple Music API such that the files get modified through Apple Music, instead of directly modifying the files, then having Apple Music scan the file system for changes? If nothing works with the Apple Music API, what third-party tools/libraries offer batch regex music metadata parsing & modification? For third-party scripting, I'd prefer JavaScript/zsh/Java/Kotlin/etc.

I think this used to work in the past, but doesn't work now for me (Ventura 13.3.1, Music 1.3.4.56) For example, I have a song whose length is 7:18 but the last 25 seconds are just crowd noise. I did "Get Options" -> "Options" and set "Stop" to 6:55, with the check mark on. When the song plays, it displays 6:55 as the end time but keeps playing past it, with the time indicator showing 6:55, for the remaining 23 seconds. Can anyone say if they also see this bug? Any suggestions? Thanks!

I have been trying to Move my music library from a 2020 iMac running Sonoma to a 2015 MB Pro running Catalina. I looked online and found these instructions for doing so but when I followed the last step, i.e., launching the Music.app on the MB Pro while holding down the Option key and navigating to the consolidated library I moved to that MB Pro, the moved library is not recognized. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong? Here are the instructions I found. Yes, you can move your music library from a Mac running Sonoma to a Mac running Catalina. Here are the general steps to do so: **Consolidate Your Music Files**: In the Music app on your Mac, choose **File > Library > Organize Library**, then select **Consolidate files**. This will ensure that all your music files are in one location 2 4. **Copy the iTunes/Music Folder**: The iTunes/Music folder contains all your music files. You can find it in the Music folder of your user account. Copy this folder to an external drive or the new Mac 5. **Transfer to the New Mac**: Once you have copied the iTunes/Music folder to the new Mac, place it in the Music folder of the new user account. Open the Music app, and it should recognize the library. But whenever I ask Siri for something like, "90s rock" then it plays an album that has 90s rock in the title (always telling me "by various artists") – but it doesn't create it's own playlist and also doesn't seem to learn our prefs.
