This issue has been driving me nuts: if I listen to music or a podcast, pause it, and then activate Siri using “Hey Siri,” the moment the Siri interaction ends it resumes playing the music/podcast, even though it has been paused before. This is natural behavior for when I interrupt playing audio, but very annoying when I’m driving with no music on. I’ve tested this and it happens with Spotify and the Apple Podcasts app, suggesting it’s a system-level issue. It doesn’t happen if there’s nothing playing in the “now playing” drop down in control center. It also doesn’t happen is I force quit the audio app before activating Siri. Is there some setting I can tweak to change this behavior, or is this just a bug?

This issue only started for me yesterday, as everything was working fine the day before. Every time I plug my 12 Pro Max into the Pioneer stereo, it completely restarts the head unit over and over. My friend plugged his iPhone into it, with no issues. Not sure how this is happening. I’m using a genuine Apple cable, I’m running the latest version of iOS, I’ve tried restarting, and nothing works. Extremely frustrating situation so any help is appreciated.

I connect my iPhone to my car's stereo system via a Lightning-to-USB adaptor. If I listen to something that plays audio (e.g., Youtube), then as soon as the audio ends, the Music app immediately starts playing music. Specifically, it starts playing from some kind of auto-generated playlist that contains all songs on my device, in alphabetical order, by song title. (This happens even if I had been previously playing some album in the Music app and paused it; it doesn't resume its previous playback, but switches to the all-songs playlist.) I find this annoying. I would like to have silence after the audio stops. Is there a way that I can change this behavior, to not auto-play music the moment something else stops playing audio?

How can I program my iPhone so it opens an app automatically when it connects to CarPlay or my car’s Bluetooth
How can I “program/setup” my iPhone so it opens an app automatically when it connects to CarPlay or my car’s Bluetooth? Does Automator or shortcuts do that? If yes, any recommendations/steps to follow?

That is fine, but I would like to have the "You parked your car at X" feature to work automatically when leaving the car and taking the iphone with me. I have an old iPod touch in the car already. iPod died :-( To my understanding, the iPhone can either use USB or Bluetooth to recognize the car. Is there way I can enable this facility while not needing full CarPlay?

CarPlay uses what is configured on your iPhone. Every time I try to use Siri on CarPlay to send a message or FaceTime someone, for example, Siri send message to Susan or Siri facetime Susan, then I have to hear the most obtuse and annoying question ever: This person has two contacts, email blabla@bla.com and phone number "home", which one do you want to choose? This is ridiculously annoying because I constantly message this person, ALWAYS using her email, and I know that her email and her phone number are both registered for messages and FaceTime. The most ridiculous part is that some contacts have multiple emails and phone numbers, but just one email and one phone number is presented. Is there a way to edit the contact and mark an email or phone number as the preferred way to contact a person, so this step of making me choose for a method is eliminated?

Before doing this, I would really like know how these kind of adapters actually work. Is there some kind of an exploit they are using? If so, I would be afraid of having a really expensive black box as soon as iOS is updated in the future.

Did Apple screw up CarPlay in the 17.1.1/17.1.2 software update?

## The background: I got an automatic iOS update (to 17.1.1 last night) This morning I plugged my phone into a USB-C to USB-A cable plugged into my Honda Civic's data port, expecting it to fire up CarPlay so I could listen to some music as I ran my errands. ## The problem: Instead, I got repeated messages that said: >A charging error has occurred with the connected USB device. When safe please check the compatibility of the device and USB cable and try again. (That text is transcribed from a photo of the cars display using the text recognition feature built into iOS 17, which is kinda cool, but irrelevant to this thread...) I tried repeatedly to disconnect and reconnect the phone. I tried a USB-C cable with a USB-C to USB-A adapter on the end. I tried to get it to pair wirelessly. No joy. I tried forgetting my phone in the Civic's settings menu. Now it doesn't let me get to CarPlay at all. I am quite suspicious that the OS update is what caused the problem. I googled around and saw other people reporting similar problems with various iOS 17.x subversions, but nothing to the effect of "The 17.1.1 update broke CarPlay on my car." Are any of you aware of such a problem? I see there is another update, 17.1.2, scheduled for tonight, but I did see one person say they had this problem and 17.1.2 didn't fix it, so I don't hold high hopes.

Get phone number of iPhone that connected to car via Bluetooth

However, I went to great lengths to leave the factory receiver and display screen intact to be able to at least utilize the backup camera. I'm curious to know if it is possible to split the USB cable coming from the iPod and have it interact with the aftermarket head unit for iPod control and audio, while also sending the split signal to the factory head to utilize its display capabilities?

anyone know a fix to stop this from happening? Apple says known issue...... 1st pic shows settings in Music and phone in iPhone Finder. I sync all playlists to Phone. The next 2 pics show what they should be and when they disappear after a few days - not sure what triggers the disappearing. iOS 14.0.1, Catalina 10.15.7, sync via cable from finder. Update - so I called Apple again you try for a remedy. Now I’m told that to stop my imported playlist from disappearing I need to be signed in to Music Home Sharing and have an Apple Music account while syncing so that my iPhone will recognize that it’s actually my music and my playlists that I’m syncing over from my computer. Humm - always worked previously w/o all that mumbo jumbo. 2nd UPDATE - 11/13/20 - yesterday when i had the music app up on the phone and got in the car, the phone connected too bluetooth as usual. I happened to glance down while i opened the music app and right then i saw the music playlists disappear while the phone was connecting to bluetooth. So now - is it an apple issue or the Toyota Landcruiser??? settings should be blank

I have a 2019 BMW X2 with Carplay. The audio quality is noticeably worse with Carplay than through USB or even Bluetooth. Carplay apparently transmits the audio via a wi-fi connection the phone makes with the car's head unit. It's higher bandwidth than Bluetooth, so Apple claims it can transmit lossless audio without recompression to the head unit. But it doesn't sound that way. (I watched a WWDC developer video from Apple that explained this) I've played music through Tidal & Apple Music. They both sound the same through Carplay. Thin, lacks clarity. Doesn't really sound like mp3/aac compression though. Does anyone know what codec/protocol is used to trasmit audio to the head unit? Anyone else experience this? I want to know whether this is a problem with Carplay or just the head unit's implementation of it.

Front USB port Any time I charge my iPhone or iPad using the car's USB port, my phone's audio immediately stops working. Apparently the iPhone thinks it's been docked and is trying to play sound through the car's speakers. There is no option to select any audio source other than the Dock Connector. Audio dock connector I've seen this problem reported on forms once or twice before, but the only solutions seemed to be workarounds like "use the cigarette lighter for charging" or "pair to the car's speakers using Bluetooth". **What can I do to prevent my iPhone from muting itself when plugged into a 2013 Toyota RAV4?**
