0 I know absolutely nothing about installing firmware onto devices and have been struggling for hours to get my Mac Studio to restore an old iPod Shuffle 4th gen I (regrettably) erased (yes... ouch) and may never get the 1.0.2 OS back onto it. Unfortunately, Apple no longer supports the iPod shuffle so the server for the software also no longer exists for any of my Macs go fetch it from to restore the iPod. I did, however, find these [pictured in screen grab] items and need to know how, and if, I can use them to get the firmware/software back onto the iPod so I can load music onto it with Apple Music. Yes, I also realize I can put music on my iPhone, but I have a BluTooth speaker that I want to just plug a little MP3 player into to shuffle a few hours of music at a time without tying up my phone. NOTE: I have ZERO experience using Terminal, so please be patient with your explanations. In case you can't see the screen grab, the filename is "iPod_135.1.0.2.ips" and one just like it with "Documentation" and .ipd plus a sticky with a SHA1 Hash string of characters that I imagine is some sort of key.

How can I tell what cables will be able to send data to my very old iPod Touch?
The cable for my iPod Touch has gone missing. It is a 5th Gen (A1421) model. How can I tell what cables will be able to send data to it? I'll almost certainly have to buy a new one.

I want to duplicate everything on my Nano to my Classic so that means not just the music but includes the playlists too (and metadata). Is this posibble and secondly is there a (simple) way to achieve this? I read something about simply cloning the data to the new device but that was from one classic 5.5 to another. Would that work too for nano 5th gen to classic 5.5?

Ipod 4 disabled for 24 milion of minutes? How can i retrieve data?

I am addressing the more "geeky" of the group. I have an old 4th generation iPod Touch that, after years, I decided to turn on again, to see photos and videos I had taken now more than 10 years ago. The problem is that when I turn it on I am presented with the lock screen which says that the Ipod is disabled for a good 24 million minutes (doing a quick calculation that's over 40 years)😂. Checking on the internet I saw that this is a problem that other people have had as well. The solutions I found are not many. The main one is to restore the device by connecting it to the computer and via iTunes. The problem with this method is that it obviously resets the device so unless you have an old backup you will lose all your data. Other methods are to use third-party programs. I have tried different programs, to recover the data, or just unlock the device, but all these programs ask me to unlock the device by entering the pin to authorize access, but I cannot because precisely the iPod is disabled. Do you have any suggestions? My intent is just to recover the data. Thank you to those who will respond.

Restore iPod Touch without passcode or power button
My power button doesn't work and I only see a white screen. The only way to reset the device I've seen is to hold the power and home button and then use restore on iTunes, but I can't do that for obvious reasons. How could I reset my 4th gen iPod Touch just using my computer and a cable?

I have an iPod Touch, that I used to manage with iTunes on Windows, but now I'm using a Mac (with MacOS Sonoma). I noticed that iTunes is no more, for which I won't shed a single tear. However I would like to edit some of the ID3 tags (on the iPod itself), and I am simply not able figure out how to do it. I remember doing that via iTunes many times. If I open the Music app, and select any of the tracks, the options in the menu bar are greyed out. I can't play music either (not that I wanted to). Using the file browser I can get only a rudimentary song list, with an option to delete the file. What am I missing? Do I have any option to edit the tags in-place without installing iTunes on some hacky way?

How can I get my iPod to only display synced music?
Our family has an iPod we use mainly for playing kids' music. I have synced only selected music to it. But the "Albums" list in Library shows a bunch of other music I've bought from Apple, which the kids would not enjoy. Can I make it display only the music I sync to it?

I've an iPod Classic 160 GB bought in 2007. I've never had problems copying songs into it, through iTunes, but from the beginning I never had much success using it as a portable hard drive. Whenever I tried copying large files, or many files, into it, it would hang and reboot after a while. The same happens when I tried copying videos into it, also through iTunes, to the extension that iTunes complains that it can't read or write to the iPod. Usually, restoring the iPod returns it to the state that I can copy songs again, but when I increase the usage to videos or large files the trouble starts again. I'm pretty convinced it has a bad hard drive, but it is not covered by warranty anymore. Fixing it at a local Apple representative would cost as much as buying a new one, and the ifixit howto is pretty much discouraging, besides stating that video iPod use special hard drives and they don't sell them anymore. I was hoping that mounting the iPod in disk mode and running a check disk would mark the bad sectors and allow me use it as a <160GB iPod, but I can't find what tool would do that on the Mac. What do you recommend? How should I proceed?

I've been trying to update/sync my vintage iPod Classic. I've come to understand what is required to connect this older iPod to iTunes is "Apple mobile device support". I tried to install this driver separately, but as soon as I do, iTunes tells me I am not using a current version of iTunes and won't let me open iTunes without updating to the latest version that excludes/removes the requisite "Apple mobile device support". I'm guessing iTunes intentionally stopped supporting old iPods? Any possible workaround would be appreciated. I am using iTunes on Windows 10. My newer iPod touch still syncs without issue.

In iTunes and on iPods (excluding the most recent Nano) there is an option to playback a playlist shuffled by album. This option does not exist in "Music.app" on iOS-devices. However, since you can play a playlist in order I was thinking that it would be possible to emulate the shuffle by album-behaviour if you somehow managed to sort the playlist in a random by album order and then just play it from the first track with shuffle disabled. This raises two questions: 1. What determines the sorting order for a playlist on an iOS-device? 2. Can you somehow (maybe with an Applescript) sort a playlist in iTunes in a shuffle by album order?

This website has a useful list of the various iDevice models. And the "identifier" column is helpful for any iOS developers, as this is the string you can fetch in your application to determine what kind of device your program is running on. However, for reasons, I am interested in determining via Terminal what sort of devices is plugged into my OS X computer. Using the following script in Terminal, I can grab the "version" of my device: system_profiler SPUSBDataType | sed -n -e 's/ */ /g' -e '/iPad/,/Version/p' -e '/iPhone/,/Version/p' | grep 'iPad\|iPhone\|Version' | awk 'NR%2{printf $0;next;}1' And for the devices I can get my hands on, these numbers somewhat line up. - My iPhone 5s gives me version 6.01 (versus "iPhone6,1"). - My iPad 2 gives me version 2.40 (versus "iPad2,4"). - My old iPhone 4 gives me version 3.10 (versus "iPhone3,1"). I've been able to also run this script for an iPad Mini which gave 2.50 (versus "iPad2,5"). Also, an iPad Air gave me 4.01 (versus "iPad4,1"). But that's all I've been able to test so far. There's some correspondence between the website I linked and the results I've seen, but it's not enough that I can just build a list (6,1 to 6.01 versus 2,4 to 2.40 for example). I need an exact matching. Has someone compiled a complete list of these hardware versions already (I can find nothing official from Apple)? If nothing else, it would be appreciated if people with various other devices could confirm what version number they get from that script. As a sidenote, I only particularly care about iOS devices, but it should also be noted that I don't have an iPod to test this script with, so I have no idea whether or not iPods will show up with this exact script.

I have a used iPod Classic 5th Generation (A1136) that was purchased for a parent as it is compatible with all their 40-pin gear. One of the parents already has an identical model which was "working fine" (although hadn't been synced for over a year). By this I understand that syncing has worked on their family PC (running Windows 10) in the past, but updates may have been run / fiddling may have taken place since the last successful sync. However, I plugged in this newly purchased iPod to the family PC (via USB) and strange things began to happen. The iPod appeared to connect, then disconnect and reconnect again in a loop until eventually Windows gave up and said the device had malfunctioned. iTunes doesn't detect the device at all, but once the connect/reconnect loop gives up the iPod appears as a mass storage device - but iTunes continues to ignore it. Things I have tried - different computer - tried it on another Windows 10 machine with an identical version of iTunes (12.7.4.76) - works flawlessly (with the same sync cable) - different USB port on the same computer - all behave identically - uninstall iTunes, reboot, reinstall iTunes, reboot - same behaviour - reinstall Apple Mobile Device Support driver (usbaapl64.inf) - same behaviour Honestly, I'm tearing my hair out. Short of a clean Windows 10 install I don't know what else to do. Any ideas?
