Surely there is some big list of the definitions of each symbol? 1. Blue and white cloud: Blue and white cloud 2. Empty cloud: Empty cloud 3. Empty cloud with arrow: Empty cloud with arrow 4. Dotted cloud: dotted cloud 5. Green checkmark: Green checkmark 6. Red exclamation mark xclamation mark 7. Nothing (even when inside a folder with one of the other symbols, or a folder containing files with one of the other symbols) nothing 8. Looks like I can also have multiple of these: (blue and white cloud + empty cloud): double Probably there are others, but I'm just surprised to keep encountering new symbols I haven't seen, and I really want to understand the technical meaning behind them.

I have a 2018 MacBook Air running the latest non-beta Catalina (10.15.3 as of this writing). For as long as I can remember, I have used Safari’s bookmark syncing via iCloud, and it has worked very well. One might even say flawlessly. Last weekend I decided that I had accumulated too many bookmarks that I was never going to use which was making it hard to find what I wanted, so I decided to “clean house” — I exported my bookmarks from Safari and deleted _everything_ except _one folder_ named “Forums” which I use often. I logged in to my Macs and iOS devices to make sure that they all had the same one folder left. I think I might have had to manually delete them again on one or two devices, honestly I don’t remember because I didn’t realize this was going to become A Thing. So now have: - one MacBook Air running Catalina - one Mac Mini running Mojave - one Mac Mini running High Sierra - one iPad - one iPhone The bookmarks on the MacBook Air are working fine locally. However, everything else is broken. Changes made on other devices will sync to other devices, but do _NOT_ sync to the MacBook Air. All of the other devices (except the Air) keep getting duplicates of that “Forums” folder. I just deleted about a dozen of them. Even as I was deleting them, more appeared. I tried deleting a bookmark on one of the non-MacBook Airs, and not only did it not sync to the Air, but more duplicates re-appeared. Once the duplicates stopped happening, future changes sync between all of the devices _except the Air_ seem to happen almost simultaneously, even for the Mac mini which is co-located across the USA. I logged out of iCloud completely on the MacBook Air. I rebooted my MacBook Air. I logged back in to iCloud on the MacBook Air. The exact same problem is happening. The MBAir is not getting changes from other Macs, even though it is on the same Wi-Fi network with several other devices which are syncing perfectly well. Making changes on the MBAir causes more duplicates on the other devices. At this point it seems like this must be a Catalina issue. Then I remembered my 2015 MacBook was running Catalina too, so I booted it up. It is syncing just like all of the other non-MBAir devices. So it’s not Catalina. It’s something about Catalina on _this_ account. I tried logging into iCloud.com to see if I could delete my Safari bookmarks from there (“The truth is in the cloud”) but there is no option to do that. The only option is to restore deleted bookmarks from the previous 30 days. I am well-and-truly out of ideas. I guess I could create another local user account on my MBAir and log in to my iCloud account there, but I’m not sure what that would really accomplish anything meaningful. If it worked—then what would I do next? Any ideas welcomed and appreciated. --- ***Edited to add:*** Not sure if this is important or related, but I'm also having problems with the Home.app on my MacBook Air not syncing properly with other HomeKit devices. I do not have any outgoing firewall software installed like Little Snitch or Trip Mode. --- ***Edit 2:*** I did a Safe Boot to eliminate any potential software issues with iCloud, and it had no effect. --- ***Edit 3:*** Finding no good answers for this anywhere, I logged in to my backup Administrator account, deleted my regular account, and then re-created it. Safari bookmarks are syncing again. I did find some messages in the Console log about the SafariBookmarksSyncAgent but googling the error message and/or SafariBookmarksSyncAgent itself did not turn up any helpful information.

Looking through the apple help page does not resolve the issue. **Look in the Finder, iTunes, or Apple Devices** This is the original issue. **Check your USB cable and connection** I checked different ports. My phone also shows up on a MacBook with the same cable, but not the computer I want to sync to. The USB ports also work fine for any other device. **Update the software on all your devices** Neither phone nor computer offer any updates atm. **Restart your devices** Done, to no avail. **Allow your accessory to connect, if asked** Was asked once after resetting some privacy permissions on the phone, but nothing shows up in the finder.

I ran into the exact same problem like some other people here. After clean-installing Monterey to my two machines yesterday (MacPro 6.1 and a MacBook Pro 15" Late 2015) my iCloud Drive got stuck syncing on both machines! If I try to copy folders within the folders in iCloud Drive (documents / desktop / etc.)I get this Error: **Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in “” cannot be read or written Error -36** If I click on a folder's cloud icon to download it it says **folder "" can't be downloaded check your internet connection**. But I am online, no ports are blocked. Copying files is not a problem! Just folders. When I deactivate iCloud Drive I can copy folders on my desktop without any problems. The same problem is also documented here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253885938?page=2 **What I did:** - Booting in safe mode - PRAM Reset - Uncheck iCloud Drive couple of times - Killall Bird - Tried everything from this topic https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/264915/icloud-drive-is-stuck-uploading-items-and-no-longer-syncs Nothing worked. **Just deleting the CloudDocs Folder helps for a couple of Minutes**. While it starts resyncing I can copy folders an everything is ok till it finished syncing. Then the problem is back. So what I can do? Would be great to get your help and expertise!

Everything went well when I upgraded from iOS 12 to iOS 13, except that some iOS-macOS **High Sierra** synchronizations stopped working, or stopped working in full capacity. Before upgrading to **iOS 14**, I'd like to know. What apps will stop working (as) well between iOS and a macOS MacBook that cannot be upgraded beyond High Sierra. Is the list announced by Apple? Have you seen a list compiled by reporters? **Update** As much as I'd love to see examples of good dual-OS apps written by independent developers making it possible to do a bit on macOS, continue from iOS (under the same appleID), then return to macOS, etc, the only good ones I've seen and use are the ones written by Apple. So to make the question specific. Does upgrading to iOS 14 break any of the following? 1. Notes, e.g.: - Add a shopping list on macOS. See it on iOS when you're shopping - Take a photo on iOS. Add the photo to a note. Pick up the picture on macOS. 2. Photos, e.g.: - Add photos to your list of favorites on macOS. See them on iOS. 3. FaceTime, e.g.: - Receive a phone call on iOS. Answer with headphones on macOS. **Related:** - [Does iOS 14 sync with iTunes 12.8.2.3?](https://www.reddit.com/r/iOSBeta/comments/itg9fa/does_ios_14_sync_with_itunes_12823/) - [Manual Photo-Sync from Mac to IOS 14 still broken](https://www.reddit.com/r/ios14/comments/iyc18t/manual_photosync_from_mac_to_ios_14_still_broken/) - [iOS 14 devices with macOS High Sierra 13.6?](https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ios-14-devices-with-macos-high-sierra-13-6.2254587/) - [Syncing iPhone (iOS 14) with High Sierra using iTunes](https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251814814)

Looking online at contacts.google.com , I see zero contacts. So… How do I get my contacts from my iPhone into my Google account?

I've customized several of my contacts on my iPhone by assigning photos and posters. The feature looks great and syncs well... partially. On my Mac, the contact photos (but not the posters because not implemented) initially appear correctly in the Contacts app and in Messages. However, after some random period of time, these photos disappear and are replaced either by the default Apple contact icon (just initials) or by a blank/invisible photo. This seems to happen with all contacts for which I set a photo and/or poster via my iPhone. **Has anyone experienced this or found a fix?** iPhone 14 Plus, latest iOS version Macbook Pro M2 14", latest MacOS Sequoia version No Google account with contacts linked I have space on my iCloud storage Screenshots from my iPhone contacts: iPhone contact photo 1 --- iPhone contact photo 2 Screenshots from my Mac contacts: Mac contact photo 1 --- Mac contact photo 2

I'm trying to let Google Drive client to sync files inside mounted dmg. I've added the folder (mounted dmg) to Google Drive client for backup. Everything works fine: upload of new files from my machine, deletion of files on my machine are propagated to online Google Drive and deletion of files from web are propagated to my machine. But when I create a new file from Google Drive Web inside the folder, Google Drive Desktop client can't create file inside the mounted dmg: it always return 'not enough disk space' .. my free space is more than 200Gbyte and the issue happen with 2 files of 100KB each. The dmg file was created for read and write, I can create files inside dmg on my machine but it seems Google Drive can't ... Has anyone experienced same problem ? Thank You

The two iCloud Photos storage settings options in iOS > Settings > Photos are: > **Optimize iPhone Storage** > > If your iPhone is low on space, full-resolution photos and videos are automatically replaced with smaller, device-sized version. Full-resolution versions can be downloaded from iCloud anytime. > **Download and Keep Originals** > > This iPhone is currently storing original photos and videos. Turn on Optimize Storage to save device space and keep originals in iCloud. The behavior I want for my iOS device is to save as many photos on-device as possible, but then to fall back to iCloud thumbnails + download on demand functionality when the device is getting close to full. Is that what "Download and Keep Originals" does? Or does it **fill** the iPhone's device space? Does it prevent you from taking new photos if your iCloud library size is bigger than your phone storage size? I have more than 1TB of iCloud photos, so the library will not fit on any iPhone sold by Apple. What is the behavior of "Download and Keep Originals" if the iCloud photo library is bigger than the iPhone device storage? Does buying a 512GB or 1TB iPhone increase the cache that Photos uses when "Optimize iPhone Storage" is on? Or will Photos continue to only use a relatively small cache (~30GB) and "waste" the extra local storage space?

Here's our situation: my daughter is trying to migrate from an old iPhone 7 to a (less-old) iPhone 12. The entire migration went without a hitch except for one giant-sized hitch: roughly half of her Message history does not show up on the new phone. On further investigation, we have determined the following: - iCloud Message syncing is turned On on the older phone. However, on that phone Messages are taking up 5.6 GB of storage, and in iCloud messages are only taking up 2.8 GB of storage. - On her Macbook Air (which also is signed in to the same iCloud account) Messages are taking up 2.8 GB of storage (same as in iCloud); and lots of the messages that she can see and read in her old phone do not show up in her Macbook Air. These missing messages appear to be scattered randomly throughout her message history (or at least we have not been able to find any pattern to which ones are missing), and (as far as we can tell) are the same messages that are not showing up in the iPhone 12. All of this seems to strongly suggest that the problem is that messages are not uploading from the old phone to iCloud. The most obvious thing to try next would be to turn off iCloud Message syncing on the iPhone 7 and then turn it back on again to see if that forces a resync. However, when we attempt to do that we get the "Disable and download?" prompt, and we are very leery of going down that path, because (shocking twist) we have been in this exact same situation before, with a different (even older) phone, and when we hit the "Disable and download?" button *all of the messages that had been locally stored but not backed up to iCloud were permanently deleted from the phone and could not be recovered*. (Parenthetically: I don't know if this is what "Disable and download?" is *supposed* to do, but we have also encountered other people online who have had the same experience, including some who have explicitly warned users not to trust Apple Store "Genius" employees, many of whom will tap that button without understanding that it has exactly the opposite effect of what is intended.) Just to complete the story, we have tried setting up the iPhone 12 three different ways: - From an iCloud backup -- this obviously did not work, since the iCloud backup is incomplete. - From a local backup on a computer. She backs up her phone regularly but apparently (and to my great frustration) those local backups don't contain her full Message history either, presumably because she has iCloud syncing turned on. - Using "Quick Start". This seemed like a promising idea — skip the iCloud middleman and transfer directly from one phone to the other! But when we opened the Messages app for the first time on the new phone it was initially empty, and started downloading messages from the server. So here is the ask: - Is there some way to force the old phone to resume syncing *without* tapping the dreaded 'Disable and download' button and risk losing all of her messages? - Alternatively, is there some way to force a local backup of the phone that contains her message library, again without tapping the D & D button? - (Getting increasingly desperate:) Is there some way (including, I don't know, a command-line tool or 3rd party app) to export her full Message library from the old phone and import them manually into the new phone? - If neither of those can be done, is there some way to export the entire Message library into some giant text archive or PDF file so that she can at least *keep* and *read* her old messages, even if outside of the Messages app itself? Any advice you can offer would be appreciated, we are at our wits' end with this. Practically her entire teenage social life was conducted inside Messages and she really does not want to suddenly lose half of it at one go.

I have over 600 of voice memos on iPhone 2020 SE (actually recorded on Apple Watch) ranging from a few seconds to a couple of minutes. How do I batch move them to a Linux PC, having the date of recording info without the woes of manually ticking 600 files? I've tried just selecting them and sending to Dropbox, but that is painfully unreliable: * Dropbox does not synchronize more than 10 files at once, * few out of those 10 are just left behind and unsynchronized by Dropbox, * the date of recording is lost when copying files this way. **UPD** Using answers from How can I transfer large files from Linux to iPad over a cable or wifi? didn't help: * ideviceinfo keeps saying "ERROR: No device found!" * Using third-party file managers is futile since they can't "see" the recording files, those are considered some other kind of files by iOS for some reason. * FileMaster app actually can share the files "sent" to it, but then again, I'd have to tick 600 hundred files to send the files into FileMaster and then click 600 hundred times in its web UI to download the files. My question is focused on **batch** aspect of transferring.

I am trying to write a PHP service to make calendars from some data. Anyway, the example it returns (it is static during the test) shows up normally when trying to get it by http://my_domain.com/ics.php or just to download response as an .ics file (location, URL, description, alert fields have been shown properly, I can save it on my device or CalDAV/Cloud server), so the iCS syntax is OK. But when I try to subscribe to it through webcal://my_domain.com/ics.php, its events do not show up on my Calendar timeline (although I can still see it in the "Calendars" sections and even "refresh" it). When refreshing it, the events still can't be seen, but the server notices the request to my_domain.com/ics.php. I tried: - Rebooting the device & server - Making a static .ics file and subscribing to it - Adding response headers like Content-type: text/calendar and Content-disposition: attachment; filename=index.ics - Disabling iCloud & Google Calendars accounts on the device - Generating another event in the calendar And nothing above helped. The subscribition works on Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird on Windows 10 device. On my i-device there was another public subscribed calendar, but it also did not worked. The example of generated ICS can be watched here . What should I change to make it subscribed and shown properly? I will appreciate any provided help! Added: now when accessing through webcal:// safari responses that "Can't opent the page because it is invalid"

"Google Drive for desktop" has two different sync options: (1) ***"Folders from Drive":*** This isn't actually an option, since you have no option to turn it off. It has two modes, though. One mode is called "Stream files" and one mode is called "Mirror files". Neither of these are the feature that I want to ask about, however. I understand how to use them. (2) ***"Folders from your computer:"*** With this option, you can select an arbitrary number of specific folders located anywhere on your computer that you'd like synced to Google Drive. My question is about feature #2 above. It works great. Except that I can find no way to make this feature sync the same folder across two or more computers. The files that are synced using this feature end up in Google Drive (as seen via the web interface), not under "My Drive", but rather under "Computers". And there is one folder under "Computers" for each computer that you use with *Google Drive for desktop*. There seems to be no way to tell Google Drive that I'd like, for instance, ~/'My Folder' on "My Desktop Mac" to be considered to be the same folder as ~/'My Folder' under "My MacBook". Am I missing something? I really would like to make this work, and it seems as if it would be easy for Google to implement. Thanks. P.S. Yes, I understand that I can do something like make a symlink on both "My Desktop Mac" and "My Macbook" that links to ~/Library/CloudStorage/GoogleDrive-my-email-address@gmail.com/'My Drive'/'My Folder', but for various reasons, I'd prefer not to have to do it that way. P.P.S. This is how things work on the latest version of Monterey using the latest version of *Google Drive for desktop". Specific details may differ a bit with older versions Mac OS.

Contacts disappeared after re-authenticating with Outlook/Exchange

I sync all my contacts to my old Hotmail aka Live aka Outlook.com account. Today I needed to look someone up through [Outlook.com / People](https://outlook.live.com/people/) web-interface (normally I just do it on my phone) and I realised her contact is not there, while it is on my iPhone. I went to phone settings -> Contacts -> Accounts -> Outlook and it said this account needs re-authenticating. I went through authentication, which went through successfully. What I expected to happen == The contacts on my iPhone that are not on Outlook.com are uploaded to Outlook.com What actually happened == The contacts that were on my iPhone but were not on Outlook.com were never uploaded to Outlook.com. Instead they got deleted from my iPhone without any warning. What I checked == - The deleted folder on [Outlook.com / People](https://outlook.live.com/people/) is empty - In my iOS Contacts app, in Groups (arrow back on top left in main view) it shows "All Outlook" list/group only, there's no "Deleted" list or "On my iPhone" list. That "All Outlook" list used to say I had 119 contacts, now it says 110. Is there any way I could get my contacts back? My latest phone iCloud backup is from yesterday. I can erase my phone now and restore from the yesterday backup, but my concern is: this is a serious step and it has to be something of last resort. I am also concerned something else can go wrong, and I'll lose more than 9 contacts. My trust in things working as expected is not the highest now - for example, this whole situation shouldn't have happened in the first place, the phone should have asked if I want to merge contacts before deleting them AND/OR have some kind of recycle bin folder from which I can restore. I think it used to be like that, but not anymore. Is there anything that I'm missing? This answer here https://discussions.apple.com/thread/254833042?sortBy=rank makes it seem you can toggle contacts sync and they may come back, but it's iCloud-specific, and my iCloud contacts are turned off. This is iOS 17.5.1

iPhone 8 - Calendar lost items from early 2020
I have the correct settings on my phone to sync to the Cloud, and have it save all my calendar items, but the beginning of 2020 has lost all its entries. Not sure why.

I have no interest in iCloud for syncing sizeable data like Voice Memos. It is quickest for me to just connect my iPhone to my Mac via the USB cable and do my syncing that way. Many changes have occurred in recent times, with iTunes now completely replaced on the Mac. On Catalina 10.15.2 and iOS 13.3, this is what it currently looks like: There are many Voice memos on my iPhone: enter image description here But on my macOS Finder I do not see a mention anywhere of Voice Memos being present on my iPhone: enter image description here enter image description here Similarly, in my Mac's Music.app there is simply nothing showing up as detected on my iPhone: enter image description here As for Voice Memos.app, there appears to be no connection to the iOS counterpart whatsoever, it is empty: enter image description here Has Apple abandoned USB transfer functionality between the iPhone and the Mac? How can I do this? Do we now have to use third party tools like AnyTrans despite these both being Apple devices?
