Today I responded to an email from a friend and noticed that the sent message was marked (more or less) "This message is from a blocked sender." After a bit of poking I found that the blocked sender was me and that all of my email addresses going back several previous employers as well as my phone numbers were all on the block list in Mail.
I'm at a loss for how this could have happened, I assume it was recently, but there are no time stamps on the entries in the blocked list. The only clue I have is that I got a spam message from Amazon this morning & when I tried to add the Amazon address to the block list it was already on the list (but despite having enabled blocked mail filtering and set it to move blocked mail to trash the message was in my inbox. Maybe as I poked around to try and make sense of that I might have blocked myself by accident, but my old email addresses aren't on my Contacts card any more.
I'm most puzzled & would love to hear an explanation or even some theories.

I was updating the VIPs in the iOS mail app today. I removed three contacts and noticed that my mother-in-law was not in the list, so I tried to add her. It seemed to add her successfully, but when it returned to the list, she was not there. I tried multiple times.
I tried rebooting my phone. Based on and Apple Discussions forum post suggesting a workaround for issues when a suggested email is present in the contact card, I checked and there is no suggested email in her contact card, but her name and photo were set to autoupdate, so I temporarily disabled that and tried again, without success.
I don't get any errors. Has anyone run into this issue before? Does anyone know a workaround or a fix? How can I add my mother-in-law to my VIPs.
The contact card has 4 emails for her, a phone number, and all the basics. There are currently 9 VIP contacts.

I'm using an iPhone 14 with iOS 16.5 and two SIM cards.
When calling someone from
Contacts
I can select which line to choose to call him. When dialing a phone number in the Phone
app I can also select which line I'd like to use for this call.
But when I click on a phone number link, e.g. on a website, I don't see any possibility to switch to another line, so the default line will be used.
Is there any way to switch the line when I click on a phone number link?

**EDIT: I'd also be interested in a solution involving third-party apps or utilities.**
I do business with the ACME Corporation and routinely get calls from different departments/extensions within the company (on my private iPhone with the latest iOS 18).
Most of these numbers are **not in my contacts** (it's a very large operation), but they all share the **same prefix/root**:
555-1234-[extension 1]
555-1234-[extension 2]
...
It would be extremely helpful to have my iPhone (via the Contacts
or Phone
app) tell me that an incoming call comes from ACME.
The implementation I have in mind that would involve creating
**a rule or filter for numbers starting with 555-1234
**, which would then **show some specific text** on the caller screen.
Is this at all possible, and if so, how?
Target real-life scenario: On any given day, I might be expecting a call from (1) someone at my company, (2) a second company, (3) the city council, (4) my library, ... and it would be great to be able to tell at a glance whether this is the important call I've been expecting, or some other random number.

How do I sync my iPhone Contacts to Google Contacts?
Google’s instructions say:
> 1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app.
> 2. Tap Contacts. You might need to scroll down.
> 3. Tap Add account. If you've already synced a Google Account to your device, tap Accounts.
> 4. Tap Add account and then Google.
> 5. Follow the instructions to sign in to your Google Account.
> 6. Choose which Google apps to sync with your device. You can update these settings at any time.
> 7. Tap Save.
>
> To start syncing, open your iPhone or iPad's Contacts app.
Upon doing that, I now see in iPhone Contacts app several “Lists”: One for “All Contacts” with 7,425 contacts; a second for my Google account with “0” contacts; and a third for “All iPhone” with 7,425 contacts.
Looking online at contacts.google.com , I see zero contacts.
So… How do I get my contacts from my iPhone into my Google account?

I've customized several of my contacts on my iPhone by assigning photos and posters. The feature looks great and syncs well... partially.
On my Mac, the contact photos (but not the posters because not implemented) initially appear correctly in the Contacts app and in Messages. However, after some random period of time, these photos disappear and are replaced either by the default Apple contact icon (just initials) or by a blank/invisible photo.
This seems to happen with all contacts for which I set a photo and/or poster via my iPhone.
**Has anyone experienced this or found a fix?**

I've lost the location of a folder I'm looking for. I'm on Mac Sequoia 15.5 and using the Contacts app. When editing a contact photo, this window opens:
I added the Indian picture to /Library/User Pictures and still do not see it in Suggestions - which im guessing I wouldn't have. But, it's not in any of the available selections when editing the Contact Acme Lock.
New image location:
I'd like to know the location of this Suggestions folder so that I can add another image and remove an earlier one.
Where on the filesystem should I be looking?

How do you set a sender of an SMS message to be a known sender?
If it is a plain phone number you can hit the info button and add to contacts sometimes. But this does not work always - I have senders e.g. my bank and my doctor that do not show a phone number just a code. I ask this now as iPhone Messages now puts up a note do I want to Report Junk which it definitely is not.
My bank is also in my contacts and shows in known contacts but message says it is not in my contact list and shows me the Report Junk link.
Also I have known senders that are not in my contacts - I think just by replying. So Known/Unknown senders appears to be rather random.
As seen in other questions here it is probably relevant that I am in the UK.

I sync all my contacts to my old Hotmail aka Live aka Outlook.com account.
Today I needed to look someone up through [Outlook.com / People](https://outlook.live.com/people/) web-interface (normally I just do it on my phone) and I realised her contact is not there, while it is on my iPhone. I went to phone settings -> Contacts -> Accounts -> Outlook and it said this account needs re-authenticating. I went through authentication, which went through successfully.
What I expected to happen
==
The contacts on my iPhone that are not on Outlook.com are uploaded to Outlook.com
What actually happened
==
The contacts that were on my iPhone but were not on Outlook.com were never uploaded to Outlook.com. Instead they got deleted from my iPhone without any warning.
What I checked
==
- The deleted folder on [Outlook.com / People](https://outlook.live.com/people/) is empty
- In my iOS Contacts app, in Groups (arrow back on top left in main view) it shows "All Outlook" list/group only, there's no "Deleted" list or "On my iPhone" list. That "All Outlook" list used to say I had 119 contacts, now it says 110.
Is there any way I could get my contacts back?
My latest phone iCloud backup is from yesterday. I can erase my phone now and restore from the yesterday backup, but my concern is: this is a serious step and it has to be something of last resort. I am also concerned something else can go wrong, and I'll lose more than 9 contacts. My trust in things working as expected is not the highest now - for example, this whole situation shouldn't have happened in the first place, the phone should have asked if I want to merge contacts before deleting them AND/OR have some kind of recycle bin folder from which I can restore. I think it used to be like that, but not anymore.
Is there anything that I'm missing? This answer here https://discussions.apple.com/thread/254833042?sortBy=rank makes it seem you can toggle contacts sync and they may come back, but it's iCloud-specific, and my iCloud contacts are turned off.
This is iOS 17.5.1

This has been going on for awhile now through various iOS.... I use apple contacts and have many contacts where ive entered a person's name along with the business name in the contact card. I have not entered any custom fields. I have first name, last name and company fields by default. On those cards, with both a persons name and business name, when I search by business name on the iPhone , by swiping down on the Home Screen to make the search bar come up, I get no search results.
But, when I search by name, I get the expected results.
The problem is I'm bad with names and more likely to remember a business name rather than a person's name.
is there a way to get the results to show when searching by business name for those cards that have both person's name and business name used in the contact?

Recently, the Messages app on my iPhone stopped recognizing many of my Contacts — it displays their phone number instead of their name. On closer examination, I noticed something odd. When a Contact has a US phone number like *nnn-nnn-nnnn*, Messages displays **+1**-*nnn-nnn-nnnn* which is not recognized as a Contact. Or the opposite: the Contact is **+1**-*nnn-nnn-nnnn* and Messages shows *nnn-nnn-nnnn* which is unrecognized.
Any idea why this behavior suddenly began?
The problem happens only on one IOS device (my phone) and not on my iPad, even though they sync Contacts through iCloud. Re-syncing contacts did not fix the problem. Restarting the phone did not fix the problem.
As a hack, I added the new number to the existing contact. So a given contact now has both versions of the phone number, so Messages recognizes it and displays the person's name. This seems ridiculous when I live in the US with country code 1.
Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Unfortunately, the 'smart' list isn't so smart (or doesn't speak my language).
It yields nothing.
I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I even tried this, when my first attempt failed.
