Today I responded to an email from a friend and noticed that the sent message was marked (more or less) "This message is from a blocked sender." After a bit of poking I found that the blocked sender was me and that all of my email addresses going back several previous employers as well as my phone numbers were all on the block list in Mail.
I'm at a loss for how this could have happened, I assume it was recently, but there are no time stamps on the entries in the blocked list. The only clue I have is that I got a spam message from Amazon this morning & when I tried to add the Amazon address to the block list it was already on the list (but despite having enabled blocked mail filtering and set it to move blocked mail to trash the message was in my inbox. Maybe as I poked around to try and make sense of that I might have blocked myself by accident, but my old email addresses aren't on my Contacts card any more.
I'm most puzzled & would love to hear an explanation or even some theories.

Not sure how this has happened, but maybe I deleted it... Im trying to find an email I sent back in May. Im using Apple Mail on Ventura. Ive searched various ways inside of Mail, but can only find the response from the recipient which does show my original email minus the attachment I had sent.
Id like to be able to find my original sent email, but am stumped as to why its not showing anywhere.
Is there by chance a folder , .eml , or similar where. I can look using Finder? I know the date & time it was sent. In a bind and on a deadline :(
Thank you for any help.
Here is a screen shot of my external location. I dont see a mail folder in the library.
looked here too - dont see it. Cant figure out what im doing wrong.

This makes searching impossible.
So I'm trying to turn off those labels in Gmail but no success so far. I have disabled "Show in IMAP" option in the Gmail label settings for all those labels then deleted all the cached items in ~/Library/Mail/V2 and restarted Mail.app but that didn't do the trick.

On MacOS mail (Catalina, but also on 10.14), I've noticed that the client never finished downloading mail from my cPanel/WHM-based server (which has support for Apple Push for iOS, for what it is worth). The mail will come in and be readable, but it will keep saying "Downloading Messages" in the status area and the Activity window (the activity window will show it downloading, say, "Message 12 of 12."). Because it gets stuck like this, I never receive notifications when messages come in -- unless the Internet goes down and then suddenly I get a rush of notifications for everything that came in recently. I've noticed this problem on multiple different computers (a 2015 15" MacBook Pro and now a 2019 16" MacBook Pro) and on multiple networks.
With this, I am almost always seeing Mail listed as drawing significant power on the little menu bar icon for the battery.

Apple Mail keeps marking mail as deleted when moving from junk to inbox
The following scenario occurs regularly on several of my e-mail accounts (all IMAP accounts): - I receive a valid e-mail, but it is marked as spam and shows up in my Junk folder (though not usually actually _marked_ as spam) - I click “Move to Inbox” to move it out into my inbox since it’s not spam...
The following scenario occurs regularly on several of my e-mail accounts (all IMAP accounts):
- I receive a valid e-mail, but it is marked as spam and shows up in my Junk folder (though not usually actually _marked_ as spam)
- I click “Move to Inbox” to move it out into my inbox since it’s not spam
- The e-mail shows up in my inbox, but then within a minute or two vanishes, sometimes before my very eyes, _while_ I’m actually reading it
If I log on using a webmail system which shows items marked for deletion using strikethrough, I can see the missing e-mail, so it appears that Mail, for some reason, is flagging it for deletion, but without actually moving it to the Bin folder where delete-flagged items would normally be.
Unfortunately, the webmail systems I have access to don’t seem to offer any way to add or remove IMAP delete flags, and I can’t find any way to do so in Apple Mail either.
On a few of the accounts, I have access to the MailEnable Administration, but while I can see the message (as a .mai file) in the user’s inbox there, I can’t figure out how to see or edit IMAP flags on messages, aside from editing the raw XML index file (which is risky, since it may lead to corruption if an e-mail arrives while the file is being edited). And it also happens with other accounts that I have no admin access to, anyway.
Short of nuke-style approaches like rebuilding/reinstalling entire mailboxes, is there some way to retrieve items that Mail flags for deletion without moving?
(This has been happening regularly for years, across several Macs (Intel Mac mini, M1 MacBook Pro, M1 Mac Studio) running at least macOS Catalina/10.15 to Ventura/13.3.)

I am using 'Dark Mode' on my Macbook Pro but Apple Mail is ignoring the setting. I've searched here and on the web and few people seem to have this issue so I don't know what to try. I've restarted numerous times, flipped 'Appearance' from dark to light to auto and back, and been all through the Mail preferences. I am running Mail Version 16.0 (3826.500.181.1.5) and the OS version is Sequoia 15.4.1. The other Apple apps I use (Numbers, Reminders, etc.) display dark mode correctly.
Has anyone encountered this and/or can suggest something else I can try? Screenshots of the various setting panels are below
Here's my Appearance display panel:
And my Mail Settings panel:
Searching around on the web, this is what the Apple Mail Settings should look like in Dark Mode:

Apple Mail sometimes not showing content of e-mail

I'm using Apple Mail 16.0 (3696.120.41.1.1) on a MacBook Air (13-inch, 2017) with macOS Monterey 12.6.2 (21G320).
I don't know when it started but there's a problem I have since some months:
Sometimes when I click on an e-mail in the list of e-mails, no matter in which folder (inbox, sent …), the header (from, to, subject, date) gets shown as usual but the e-mail content is empty, just white space.
This happens with all my e-mail accounts. All of them are IMAP accounts. All these e-mails are already downloaded and often only a few KB in size. It's the same with e-mails with and without attachments. There's no "This message has no content" message or similar. This also happens when I disable the internet connection. When that happens the content preview in the e-mails list is visible as usual as well as the e-mail header. Only the mail content is blank.
Sometimes I just have to wait a few seconds to see the content. Sometimes I can make the content visible by clicking on another e-mail and then back to that e-mail. But often I have to restart Apple Mail.
This not only happens to one e-mail but often to multiple e-mails simultaneously. I click from e-mail to e-mail and they all show that behavior.
**Rebuild** didn't help. Also reinstalling macOS (keep data but reinstall macOS) didn't help. I even completely erased the system, made a fresh install of macOS, and then restored data from a backup. (I'm pretty sure my problem would be solved if I'd make a fresh install and then import data and make the settings manually instead of restoring from a backup but I cannot do that currently.)
Do you have any idea how to solve that problem? Is there any error log I can check?

Somehow it does display in the shortcuts/unified folder above. Even when editing the folder list it doesn’t give me the option to display below.
On my iPhone Mail app it works correctly. I’ve tried removing and re-adding the account as well. No idea why.

I really messed up. My main email account is a Gmail instance operated by my University as a benefit for alumni. In the process of cleaning out the 20,000 mail message "Archived" into the "All Mail" folder by my various iOS devices I ended up deleting the mail from my "Sent Mail" mailbox and all the old mail I still had in my INBOX. I've already contacted my University email team asking if they can restore deleted email but I'm not holding my breath.
What I have now is an iPhone connected to this same Gmail account that has a cached copy of both the INBOX and the "Sent Mail" from before I messed up. So I put it in AirPlane mode and launched Mail. Sure enough the messages are there and not just the headers, every message I clicked on had the full text, but probably not the attachments. As soon as I take this phone out of Airplane mode and connect to the server things will sync and the messages will go poof! I watched it happen on my iPad.
So I'm trying to copy the 200-300 messages in these two mailboxes to a safe location so that I can then reconnect to the server and then restore (re-copy) them to their rightful home. The problem is that with the phone in Airplane mode it'll let me edit the mailbox, select all the messages and then move them to another email account/mailbox, but nothing actually happens because the phone is in Airplane mode (offline).
I've tried turning off mail for the problem account and then turning off airplane mode to allow my other email accounts back online thinking they may sync the offline move. That doesn't happen and when I do that iOS hides the mailboxes for the problematic and now disabled mail account. So I can't move the messages in that mode, since I can't see them.
Is there some way to export the mail or mailboxes to local storage on the iPhone such that I could then get things back online and then re-import them? Is there utility or application that I could use that might help? Keep in mind, the problem gmail account cannot touch the network or communicate with the Gmail server or the messages I'm trying to save go poof.

I'm trying to attach some files, shared with me in Google Drive, to an email by using my iPad.
It looks like I can not find that files when searching them from the dialog it is shown to select the files to attach. There is no problem if the files that I want to attach are from my Google Drive (instead of shared with me).
It looks to happen the same when I try to make that search from the ios Files app directly. Of course, if I try to make the same search from Drive app, I can find all files and open them.
Please note that all apps and iOS are up to date, and I have only one Gmail account set up on the Drive app.
I'm not sure if that problem id due to a misconfiguration or a limitation of the Apple Files app. In that case, is there a workaround to make me able to attach multiple files shared with me through Google Drive?
Probably a workaround could be to copy that shared files to my private Drive or to store them locally on my iPad, but because they are dynamic files, I could not consider that as a solution.
With my old iPad (not using Files app to make the file selection when attaching files) that was not a problem, and I could do that with any problem.
PD. I'm using Apple's Mail.app, not Gmail.app.

I was updating the VIPs in the iOS mail app today. I removed three contacts and noticed that my mother-in-law was not in the list, so I tried to add her. It seemed to add her successfully, but when it returned to the list, she was not there. I tried multiple times.
I tried rebooting my phone. Based on and Apple Discussions forum post suggesting a workaround for issues when a suggested email is present in the contact card, I checked and there is no suggested email in her contact card, but her name and photo were set to autoupdate, so I temporarily disabled that and tried again, without success.
I don't get any errors. Has anyone run into this issue before? Does anyone know a workaround or a fix? How can I add my mother-in-law to my VIPs.
The contact card has 4 emails for her, a phone number, and all the basics. There are currently 9 VIP contacts.

I am trying to use AppleScript to automate sending mails through AppleMail, but the message always ends up being send as a blockquote (i.e. as if I replied to an email and my message got quoted).
Is there something I might be doing wrong, or is this a bug in AppleMail?
To clarify, if I try to send the message "Hello you", it is being sent as a rich text email with the plain text version
> Hello you
and the html version has
Hello you
in it...
Interestingly the blockquote in Apple Mail looks like normal text, so I only spotted the issue after looking at the raw message source...
The script that I use looks like this:
tell application "Mail"
set this_message to make new outgoing message
tell this_message
set subject to "AppleScript Test Email"
set content to "This is the body of the test email"
make new to recipient at beginning of every to recipient ¬
with properties {address:"recipient@example.com"}
end tell
send this_message
end tell

Why would the first two *hanzi* be rendered correctly and the third use ISOLatin1? Is it a bug I should report, and to which (Apple or web host)? It looks correct in the Sent folder. It also looks correct in the To: line of the headers on the same message that has the error in the body.
It has not happened in recent replies for other places, so it's unlikely to be an Apple bug. Yet if the encoding header is missing, odd that the headers are correctly rendered differently.

@ugent.be
. So if I write an email to xyz@ugent.be
, I want mail to pick my UGent SMTP server. In all other cases, I want to use my gmail SMTP server configuration.
Is this possible? If not, are there any applications that support this feature?
(Some people on the university are very strict and won't reply unless you sent the email from your university email address. And I like it separated nicely as well.)
