Trouble is from there I get stuck… tThe advice is > Go to the Apple Menu at the top and click Utilities But as you can see in the screen shot, there is no Apple many at the top with option Utilities — only “Restart | Shut Down”. I must be doing something wrong! Yes I could reset from Apple ID, but it spent stay connected to my internet, probably because it’s a new network here: enter image description here

Unfortunately, I have lost/forgotten the password for my old iPhone backups. I understand that I cannot access any old backups without having the password to those backups, but I want to be able to create usable backups going forward. It seems as if that password is burned into the phone forever and that I cannot create a *useable* backup now or in the future without having the old password. The only useful suggestion I have found is to Reset the phone, not clearing data, which some posts suggest will lose the keychain and Wifi passwords. So if that's the only way, is there a way to separately backup the keychain and Wifi passwords? Obviously I can't rely on the normal backup system.

I am in the process of testing out the Apple Passwords app, and went through the process of importing my passwords from my current password manager. The import was successful, however upon sorting my items by "Date Created," I noticed that all items showed up as being created today. I checked the exported file from my password manager, and it did contain both "Created Date" and "Modified Date" headers with valid data. Testing an export from the Passwords app, I see only the following headers: | Title | URL | Username | Password | Notes | OTPAuth | | - | -| - | - | - | - | | - | -| - | - | - | - | Since Apple's app doesn't include date data on export, I'm assuming it ignores it on import. Given this, is there any way to edit items to manually set the creation date? I don't suppose there might be a way to update them in Keychain Access or via the terminal to change the date. I have years of passwords I am trying to import, and being able to sort as such is helpful when trying to find a login based on the age of the account.

I have an older macbook pro (maybe 2016 or so) - I´m not sure what OSX version it is but I updated it some months ago so it´s likely the latest compatible one. Now somehow the mousepad stopped registering clicks. In order to be able to save my work and try to reboot it, I activated the "Mouse Keys" feature https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/control-the-pointer-using-mouse-keys-mh27469/mac that allows to simulate the mouse-click with the "i" keyboard key. After rebooting the macbook however, I cannot login anymore. The password contains an i, so I suspect that this is the reason. The login screen only shows the User Name with the password field below, a ´cancel´ button below that and location, language keyboard icon, battery, wifi icon and date in the top right corner. The mousepad still does not register clicks, but pressing the i button also doesn´t simulate a click (so i can`t click the cancel button for example) and enters a character into the password field instead (it´s all dots, so I don´t know what charater is entered). But pressing enter says it´s the wrong password. Capslock isn´t activated and the password is a simple lowercase word without any special characters, so I´m absolutely sure it´s entered correctly. I tried pressing alt+cmd+F5 as the article about "Mouse Keys" mentions this combination to activate and deactivate the feature, but pressing it doesn´t seem to have an effect. What could be the problem here and how do I get back into the macbook?

Just to clarify this is not an issue with the captive WiFi page disappearing or not being able to get to the WiFi login page, the issue is that when I click the text input field to enter the password the page crashes immediately so I am unable to enter the password. I am at work and I can normally sign into my work WiFi on my iPad easily by typing in the password on the captive WiFi page but for some reason tonight every time I tap the text input field to type in the password the page closes/crashes. This is on my personal iPad, but we also have work iPads and those are working, I am able to connect to the WiFi by typing in the password. So far I have tried: - Turning off and on my iPad - Closing all apps - Deleting safari history - Switching default browser to Chrome - Resetting the WiFi at my work It seems like a glitch, as on my iPhone and on the work iPads the captive WiFi page doesn’t crash when I click/tap the password input field. Has anyone dealt with this problem before?

I experienced a behaviour I've never seen before when opening, editing and saving a PDF today. As soon as save the PDF with Preview the file will be password protected, and I cannot open it again. I've tested this on multiple files, but it seems to only affect files that have an "administrator password" set. Test files from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency: https://www.forsakringskassan.se/wps/wcm/connect/b581c10a-8782-4c84-8448-4a469b85422b/fk7457-004-f-002.pdf?MOD=AJPERES&CVID=&CACHE=NONE&CONTENTCACHE=NONE https://www.forsakringskassan.se/wps/wcm/connect/def06bb9-268f-47bd-a99d-2aa3dd75f855/fk7804-004-f-001.pdf?MOD=AJPERES&CVID= Is this behaviour somehow by design? I've never seen it before, and at first I suspected that some kind of malware caused this. But now I'm not so sure anymore. I'm using macOS Monterey 12.2.

I am using BigSur for the first time today, after unboxing a new iMac M1. I migrated all my stuff from an old iMac with Catalina, to this one, using a time machine backup. The new machine is working well but everything related to passwords is a mess. I have been using macOS for 15 years. I have billions of passwords for websites on keychain. Now, on this new machine, when I visit a site that requires username/password, the field username appears filled but when I click on the password field, I am offered the option to unlock the passwords using touchID. This feature fails 100% of the time. If instead of using TouchID I type my mac password I see only the passwords stored inside safari, not those on Keychain. But the keychain passwords are there. Any way to make this work as before?

I can understand that after a reboot or a logout / login, a password is required, but sometimes a password is required only an hour after closing the laptop lid and reopening it. Some services don't accept a Touch ID such as installing applications. The installer which used macOS services, still does not accept Touch ID. I am not talking about passwords in 3rd party apps, in that case app developers are responsible. This occurs both on a Macbook Pro 2018 13" (Intel) and Macbook Pro 2021 14" M1. Under which circumstances is Touch ID enabled?

**Problem**: I need to get passwords from Microsoft Edge browser, but they are encrypted. How can I get them? **Context**: I have issue with my Macbook - when I start it and trying to login - it's rebooted. So I cannot login via UI. But I can login to it via ssh, but it is also not stable, and can reboot after random time. It's Macbook Pro 2016, intel chip, MacOS 12.15 **Important notes:** 1. MS Edge cannot be opened or updated 2. Only SSH access (no UI) 3. I DO know user password 4. I don't have brew or python installed and it is impossible to install them on broken machine. 5. No iCloud sync, internal MS Edge sync, or Time Machine 6. I've already tried recovery / safe boot, it was not able to bring system back, so please don't suggest it 7. I have backup of "~/Library/Application\ Support/Microsoft Edge/Default/Login Data" (that is sqlite database). It is near 160 kilobytes 8. All passwords_values in database have length of 19 bytes, started with v10 9. After hex decoding they are like 7631304EEB2799F876E96056BAB04A9B7C8458 10. Claude and ChatGPT sure that it's encrypted with AES-GCM, but password is too short for it. Also they gave a lot of python scripts to decrypt, but no of them are actually decrypted right. 13. On the new Macbook 2021 (M1) with Sequoia 15.5 password length in "Login Data" is also 19 bytes 14. https://github.com/moonD4rk/HackBrowserData didn't start (any version) 15. For some reason I can't login to my Mac with a typed password, *only* with Touch ID. I have checked if I was entering correctly, if caps lock was activated and have also changed the password, but I simply can't log in with any typed password. The reason I know why I'm not typing it incorrectly is that *after logging in with touch ID I go to "Settings" and unlock it using the same password with success.* Even when I change my password, the new one can also unlock the settings app, but can't unlock my Mac. Although it isn't stopping me from doing anything right now I'm a bit worried that if for some reason my Touch ID stops working for I might lose access to my laptop. Any idea what might be going on?

I am racking my head for an [old login password] (pass1) that is gone from my keychain but still in a Time Machine backup. The password I seek [encrypts an external drive] (pass2), which used to unlock automagically by virtue of being in the keychain so I did not memorise it. However losing (pass2) now would also mean losing a good deal of data. I still know some of the passwords in that keychain (pass3), but I have forgotten the master password (pass1). Unfortunately I have been using complex passwords for some time now and will not be able to brute force it with the likes of hashcat easily. Nevertheless, I hope to recover the old login password (pass1) by deducing what the hash and salt of the keychain is from the other known passwords (pass3). Does macOS store remnants or clear version of passwords in any locations? edit: I was quite lousy with my password and found some old passwords in Copyclip, an app that logs text copied to clipboard (security risk, yes); I also have Near Lock which I think might log some keystrokes but I am still investigating, and am wondering if there might be other somewhat common places that might have passwords stored due to poor security practices.

I'm trying to set up Verification Codes in Apple's Passwords for two sites that share a domain (top-level and second-level) but with different subdomains. But Passwords seems not to allow this. For example, I've got: - example.com - feature.example.com and when I try to set up either a password or a Verification Code for one, Passwords insists on saving it for the other as well. This is tolerable for password, since nothing prevents using the same password for different sites, but breaks for Verification Codes, because each of the above sites generates its own. How do I set up separate verification codes in Passwords for two sites with a shared domain?
