How to enable horizontal scroll in browsers on a mouse with separate horizontal scroll (logitech mx)?
It's really frustrating that in Safari, Chrome when i use the horizontal scroll it switches between tabs instead of scrolling the page. I've tried to go through the settings but found nothing on it. I would be grateful for advice.

I have a 2018 MacBook Air running the latest non-beta Catalina (10.15.3 as of this writing).
For as long as I can remember, I have used Safari’s bookmark syncing via iCloud, and it has worked very well. One might even say flawlessly.
Last weekend I decided that I had accumulated too many bookmarks that I was never going to use which was making it hard to find what I wanted, so I decided to “clean house” — I exported my bookmarks from Safari and deleted _everything_ except _one folder_ named “Forums” which I use often.
I logged in to my Macs and iOS devices to make sure that they all had the same one folder left. I think I might have had to manually delete them again on one or two devices, honestly I don’t remember because I didn’t realize this was going to become A Thing.
So now have:
- one MacBook Air running Catalina
- one Mac Mini running Mojave
- one Mac Mini running High Sierra
- one iPad
- one iPhone
The bookmarks on the MacBook Air are working fine locally.
However, everything else is broken.
Changes made on other devices will sync to other devices, but do _NOT_ sync to the MacBook Air.
All of the other devices (except the Air) keep getting duplicates of that “Forums” folder. I just deleted about a dozen of them. Even as I was deleting them, more appeared.
I tried deleting a bookmark on one of the non-MacBook Airs, and not only did it not sync to the Air, but more duplicates re-appeared.
Once the duplicates stopped happening, future changes sync between all of the devices _except the Air_ seem to happen almost simultaneously, even for the Mac mini which is co-located across the USA.
I logged out of iCloud completely on the MacBook Air. I rebooted my MacBook Air. I logged back in to iCloud on the MacBook Air.
The exact same problem is happening.
The MBAir is not getting changes from other Macs, even though it is on the same Wi-Fi network with several other devices which are syncing perfectly well.
Making changes on the MBAir causes more duplicates on the other devices.
At this point it seems like this must be a Catalina issue. Then I remembered my 2015 MacBook was running Catalina too, so I booted it up.
It is syncing just like all of the other non-MBAir devices.
So it’s not Catalina. It’s something about Catalina on _this_ account.
I tried logging into iCloud.com to see if I could delete my Safari bookmarks from there (“The truth is in the cloud”) but there is no option to do that. The only option is to restore deleted bookmarks from the previous 30 days.
I am well-and-truly out of ideas. I guess I could create another local user account on my MBAir and log in to my iCloud account there, but I’m not sure what that would really accomplish anything meaningful. If it worked—then what would I do next?
Any ideas welcomed and appreciated.
---
***Edited to add:*** Not sure if this is important or related, but I'm also having problems with the Home.app on my MacBook Air not syncing properly with other HomeKit devices.
I do not have any outgoing firewall software installed like Little Snitch or Trip Mode.
---
***Edit 2:*** I did a Safe Boot to eliminate any potential software issues with iCloud, and it had no effect.
---
***Edit 3:*** Finding no good answers for this anywhere, I logged in to my backup Administrator account, deleted my regular account, and then re-created it. Safari bookmarks are syncing again.
I did find some messages in the Console log about the
SafariBookmarksSyncAgent
but googling the error message and/or SafariBookmarksSyncAgent
itself did not turn up any helpful information.

Download image from html Canvas element in macOS Safari?
Websites such as this one use the HTML canvas element to display images. https://digital.gonzaga.edu/digital/collection/p16011coll4/id/93/rec/5 The Safari Web Inspector's `Graphics` tab shows cut-up tiles of the image that can be saved independently. But doesn't give the full-res combined image. [ websites like this have a "download" link, but in this case it does not. Inspecting the source [shows a low-res image used in the preview thumbnail](https://digital.gonzaga.edu/digital/api/singleitem/image/p16011coll4/93/default.jpg) but the canvas appears to load a different, higher-resolution version of the image.
Ideally could be done from the macOS Safari Web Inspector. I would also be interested in any Safari Extensions that enable this functionality.
How can I get/export/download the full-resolution combined image being displayed by this canvas element?
Graphics
tab shows cut-up tiles of the image that can be saved independently. But doesn't give the full-res combined image.

I'm using a new MacBook Pro 15" with macOS 10.13.4 configured with the default Color LCD color profile. I'm doing some graphic design work and noticed that all colors in Chrome and Safari appear "washed out" when compared to Firefox. The latter has more saturated/vibrant colors. And this happens to native HTML/CSS elements (i.e. not images only).
Here's a screenshot of the SmashingMagazine homepage with the comparison (Chrome on the left, Firefox on the right). Notice how the colors are more vibrant in Firefox (right):
If I change my display's color profile to sRGB IEC61966-2.1, then both Chrome and Firefox look the same.
Why is this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Bookmark the page and then copy the URL using the "Copy" button in the panel brought up by pressing the button on the toolbar with the square and up arrow. Compare the copied URL to the one saved in the bookmark. They will be different. Why is that and how do I make Safari save the copy-to-clipboard URL as the bookmark URL?
Note: This happens on some other sites, too. Editing the bookmark after saving it is NOT the solution, because I shouldn't have to double check that the right URL got saved.

and I often want to see the same web page on my Windows laptop.
I know that I can convert the home screen links into Safari bookmarks by reopening the page and repeating the save, but as a bookmark. However, there are a lot of them. Is there any way to export or save **all** home screen links at once?
Once I have them as Safari bookmarks I know how to export them to my Windows laptop.

I'm a developer. My code is working as expected on Google Chrome and Firefox. But I tried it on Safari and it's a disaster. I would like to know what's wrong, what is different in those cases, and if I should report bugs.
My coding objective is to select options in the list. This will automatically select options for the two others in the list. One can be edited, not the second one. This is fine on Chrome and Firefox, as I said.
On mobile (iOS 18.5, iPhone 16e):
- The list that can be edited is well auto-selected, not the second one
- The second one can be edited (even if it should not)
I enabled dev mode, but it doesn't seem to change anything.
On my Mac Mini (macOS 15.5):
- The list that can be edited is well auto-selected, not the second one
- Cannot edit the second list, so it's fine
- I change the code of a JS file, refresh page -> no change. I go to Chrome, refresh -> see changes. Is there a specific refresh needed?

I'm using a MacBook Pro Apple M1 Pro, Mac OS 14.1. The issue seems specific to Safari (Google Maps works just fine in Chrome on the same machine).
Is anyone else experiencing this? Any known fixes or workarounds?

I was running a google meet call in Firefox and had a few other tabs open, including a gitlab one with an embedded video (which _might_ have been part of the cause of this) when I noticed considerable lagging in the responsiveness of windows, not just firefox. I found the following conspicuous messages in the console app:
IOGraphicsAccelerator::newUserClient(): process plugin-container (PID 1934) has too many contexts (510) + queues (0) + device (171) + shared (171) created. Possibly leaking?
It also affects opening browser tabs in e.g. Safari and general system responsiveness.
I couldn't find much on this kind of error message other than the plugin-container process seems to belong to Firefox.
This is a Macbook Pro with macOS Catalina 10.15.7.

How can I prevent safari to redirect the user to the google search page for addresses with custom top-level domains?
Given an address of the type http://application.test where test is a primary zone on our intranet, if I enter either:
* http://application.test
* application.test/
Then Safari correctly resolves the name and opens the page, if I enter:
* application.test
Then Safari assumes it is a search query and redirects the user to the google search page.
Is it possible to prevent this in any way which does not involve the user itself?

Other web browsers can be easily scripted to show the notifications section of their settings, ie:

This would be useful to assist an end user with disabling problematic/fake notifications.

In Chrome, there I use the Copy all URLs MD extension, which allows me to copy all open tabs URLs into the clipboard. The same extension also allows me to open a new tab for a list of URLs in the clipboard.
I found **Tabs to Links**, which allows me to copy all open Safari tabs as URLs. But nothing to open tabs for a given list of URLs.
Do I miss something? Has anybody a suggestion how to solve this?
Thanks in advance.
Edit: fixed some grammar mistakes and typos, changed the URL to the extension I use, after the other was discontinued.

I always use Safari in its own space with the window fully zoomed (*not* full screen). For as long as I can remember, whenever I would launch Safari or open a new window, I'd get a window zoomed full screen as if the system remembered my last window size.
In fact, even now, if I open a new Safari window, resize it to be 1/4 of the screen, close it, and then open a new window, that new window will be the same size as the one I just closed filling the same 1/4 of the screen, so it seems the system does keep track of recent window sizes.
Immediately after updating to macOS 15, however, new Safari windows would no longer be fully zoomed. Instead, they appear to be fully vertically zoomed, but leave a small margin on either the left or the right of the window. Of course, I can hover over the green window control and use the new 'Fill & Arrange' feature to zoom to full screen, and I changed my system settings to fully zoom when I double-click the title bar since it's a lot faster than using the window controls. (Incidentally, I discovered there's no default system keyboard shortcut to zoom a window, which surprises me.) But it really bugs me that once I've zoomed a Safari window, if I close it and immediately open a new one, the system forgets I was just using a fully zoomed window and I have to take that one extra step to zoom it to full screen.
I suppose this is more of a sanity check—am I nuts, or has anyone else noticed the same change in behavior? I've Googled around, and I see lots of complaints throughout the years about trouble using zoom controls, but I haven't seen anyone complain about this specific problem in Sequioa.

Does anybody know why this might be happening? I can't leave my computer in **Safe Mode** for a week (as was suggested elsewhere) and I don't want to start another user on this computer.
Is there a way I can be notified when it starts up? I looked into Shortcuts but they don't have Automation like iOS.
Truly odd behaviour. I need to fix this. Any insight is appreciated.

I'm looking for extensions to allow the Safari 6.x versions to manage a large number of open tabs better than the current implementation. In particular I'm looking for two features:
1. *Vertical tabs*. This is possible in Firefox by means of the extension Tree Style Tab .
2. *App tabs*. In Firefox it is possible to pin tabs as _app tabs_.
Up to know I've found and tried several times SafariStand but it doesn't look great and it doesn't provide the features of _Tree Style Tab_. I would really like to move from Firefox to Safari, but for the problem of "I have too many useful extensions in Firefox." :)
Has anyone discovered extensions that add these features to Safari for OS X?
