How to enable horizontal scroll in browsers on a mouse with separate horizontal scroll (logitech mx)?
It's really frustrating that in Safari, Chrome when i use the horizontal scroll it switches between tabs instead of scrolling the page. I've tried to go through the settings but found nothing on it. I would be grateful for advice.

I have a 2023 M2 MacBook Pro, with an Anker USB-C hub. I also have a USB 3.0 Switch, that I use to switch my keyboard/mouse between my MacBook and my PC. When I plug a USB-3 to USB-C cable directly into my MacBook, nothing happens; sometimes my mouse will light up, but the MacBook doesn't see it. The USB-3 to USB-C is male on both ends. However, if I plug in the same USB-3 to USB-C cable into the Anker USB-C hub, everything works as expected. Is there any way that I can use the USB-C cable directly, without having to use the hub? Basically, right now my set up looks like this: Mouse --USB-A Cable--> USB Switch --USB-3 to USB-C--> Anker Hub --USB-C--> MacBook But I want it to look like this: Mouse --USB Cable--> USB Switch --USB-3 to USB-C--> MacBook Note that the USB3 to USBC cable that I'm using did not come with the USB switch; its a separate cable that I had lying around. These are the items in question. - Anker 555 USB-C Hub (8-in-1) enter image description here - ABLEWE 3.0 USB Switch enter image description here

Recently I started to have pains on my hand /wrist and correlate them to be using frequently the Middle mouse button to scroll through many tools such as IDEs and Chrome. I want to be able to push a hot key – such as Alt (= ⌥ option) – and to enable scrolling by (left button) clicking and dragging the mouse to any direction of the screen. Is this achievable? *Ideally I would like to avoid writing scripts or install 3rd-party tools, but I'm open if there is no other choice*

I'm a new MacOS user and some things disturb me as it was more convenient on Windows. One of them is the following: on a dual screen set up, I have to first click the second monitor for it to take the focus and only then do my actual work. On Windows, I was able to flawlessly switch from one screen to the other without the need to first focus it. In other words, on Mac, when I'm on a screen and just move the mouse to the other and start to, say, select some text, my action is just ignored (as it's only the initial focus) and I have to start it again. On Windows it just select my text the first time. It is quite annoying, as I often switch from one screen to the other (dev tools on one screen, debugging browser on the other). Is there a solution to this problem?

I have two macbook pros, one I bought myself and the other is from my employer. They are both 14-inch, Nov 2023 model (I am assuming this is the right way to specify the model, but if this is not the correct way, pls let me know). However, the feeling of my magic mouse is completely different on the two macbooks --- the feeling on the one I bought myself is really smooth and the positioning is very accurate, while the feeling on the other one from my employer is very bad, far from being smooth (feels like it tends to jump here and there), and the positioning is not accurate. Hare are more details: The mouse has the same setting on both computers. I am using a Dell 27in 3840 x 2160 S2721QS monitor. All experiences I described were under connection to this monitor (when not being connected to the monitor, the mouse works well on both macbooks). The one I bought mysel (the one working good with the mouse) has a M3 chip, 8GB mem, Ventura 13.6.3 OS. The one from my employer (the one not working good) has a M3 pro chip, 18GB mem, and Sequoia 15.5 OS. I have been using the one I bought (the good one) for 2 years, while the one from my employer is new to me (don't know whether this is relevant though). I don't know exactly which version of magic mouse it is -- should be bought a few years ago. Any ideas why this happens, and if there is any work around?

Note the the mouse cursor generally changes when moving across certain boundaries, i.e. in a web browser when you move the cursor over a text form, it changes from an arrow to a caret, and vice versa when you exit the text area. [This Chrome bug](https://issues.chromium.org/issues/430116472) describes an issue with fullscreen Chrome instances where the cursor gets into a bad state in a predictable way. Assume (hypothetically) that there is some OS-level command that I can issue that essentially does "check what kind of thing the cursor is over, and reset the cursor to the right type". Then as a workaround for the bug, I could write an automator app that fires that command a few times per second. Does the hypothetical command exist? EDIT: I've added a workaround that I discovered, to the bug linked above.

Background: Voice Control lets you click links by just saying “Click ”. Question: How would I do this by typing instead of speaking? (Siri has a “Type to Siri” option, but Voice Control does not). Is there really no accessibility option for letting the user type the text of the button they want to click? What I’ve tried: I tried Switch Control, but it scans for links instead of letting you jump to ones matching a given text. I’ve also tried Cmd+F in Safari to highlight links, but nothing I’ve found lets me click the highlighted link without using the mouse. I’ve been using Mouse Keys to navigate instead, albeit slowly.

This question has been asked before for Lion and answered negatively (i.e. a third party utility is needed). Has this improved for Mavericks?

Can anybody tell me how to write an Applescript that can move or hover mouse over a Button on Safari? I've successfully made an Applescript that can click to the button but I don't know how to make the mouse just move there, not clicking. Because I need to download some images from a website that only appear when you hover your mouse over that button (that button can't be clicked). The website I want to get information (HTML Element) when execute the script: https://shopee.vn/Bút-line-đi-nét-chuyên-nghiệp-SAKURA-PIGMA-MICRON-12-size-(0.03-Brush)-BÁN-LẺ-i.22061868.886461468 My sucessfull click-to-the-button Applescript (This click to the second image on the left): tell application "Safari" do JavaScript "document.getElementsByClassName('_3ZDC1p').click();" in document 1 end tell or: to clickClassName(theClassName, elementnum) tell application "Safari" do JavaScript "document.getElementsByClassName('" & theClassName & "')[" & elementnum & "].click();" in document 1 end tell end clickClassName clickClassName("_3ZDC1p", 2) So can you tell me how to hover mouse over the button (but not clicking) in a similar way of script like these above? Notice the Button "1.0 Graphic" in the website above is faded, that means it can't be clicked but once you hover your mouse to it, the image on the left appear, i want to get that image so bad. The url of that image only appear when I hover the mouse cursor over that button "1.0 Graphic". I already know how to make script downloading image from URL. I just need to have a script that can do hovering mouse to that button ("1.0 Graphic") so the image can be seen to grab the url. Thanks you!

I have been useing a wired Logitech USB mouse for a couple years and all of a sudden it decided to slow way down. Thinking this was a preferences issue. Settings > Mouse, cranked the speed up to Max. Still slower than I would like. Break out the magic mouse, and it moves the cursor across the screen by tapping it. So I have a standard USB mouse that is suddenly a slug and an Apple Magic Missle... Both of these devices are seemingly governed by a single preferences panel. Ostensibly stored in a .plist Searches on this site state the file is
~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist
moving the file to
~/Users/brap/Desktop
to save it off and letting the OS re-create the file still yields the same result. Wired slug and bluetooth rocket. People have suggested that I should contact Logitech - that its a hardware issue and not software. Which might make sense if the devices behavior had not suddenly changed two days ago. I will be taking my mouse to the local box retail store to see if I can replicate the issue on one of their devices. Hopefully someone can give me an idea on what to try next that is not : back up everything and re-install from scratch. Do any of you know any more about the Preferences and plists? Is there something I am overlooking? Best.

I would love to be able to scroll down a very long webpage without having to be near the computer. The webpage has several thousand entries and they only keep loading and displaying as I get near the bottom of the list. Putting a heavy object on the space bar doesn't work because it's a JS frame inside a webpage. The webpage is the list of people I follow on **Instagram**, which is reaching the limit of 7500 and I need to get to the end to quickly unfollow and monitor, as I am sure I never manually followed that many people myself. A glitch is making the number of accounts I follow stay the same even if I unfollow accounts (a very widespread issue ). I use a Logitech Trackman mouse on one the 2014 iMac and one of the side buttons is configured to scroll down. However I do not not how to "lock" this button in "pressed" positon (duct tape didn't work). Another computer I have is a MacBook Pro 2019. (Another device I would be open to do this on is an iPhone 13 Pro). I am not finding any ways to do this simply, could this be done with Automator? I opened Automator and looked for scrolling and mouse related functions but couldn’t find anything. I am wondering if I can just record pressing the button down and have the computer repeat it indefinitely or if there is another way to do this. I am open to system defaults, Terminal or Automator scripts, or free third-party options.

I'm required to keep a log of the hours I spend working on my Mac, for tax reasons. It doesn't need to be completely accurate - so it's fine to assume that I'm working whenever there's user input, which times out after some period of inactivity. Basically like how a screen saver works. Is there a (free) MacOS app or tool I can use to log user input to a file this way? All I need is something like:
2025/04/28 08:53:17 start
2025/04/28 12:03:20 timeout
2025/04/28 12:46:04 start
2025/04/28 14:18:20 timeout
2025/04/28 14:23:10 start
2025/04/28 17:20:55 timeout
Or, if there's an easy way to query the current state (activity or not) from the OS, I can write e.g. a bash script which runs every minute or so and does the logging itself. Thanks!

I'm trying to use the web-based architectural program [Enscape](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enscape) to view a 3D rendering. Every time I click to pan around the 3D world, Safari presents the banner: Your mouse pointer is hidden. Press Esc (Escape) once to dismiss this banner. Press Esc again to reveal your mouse pointer. > Your mouse pointer is hidden. Press Esc (Escape) once to dismiss this banner. Press Esc again to reveal your mouse pointer. This appears to be some kind of security banner being shown by Safari in response to whatever technique the web app is using to hide the mouse cursor. Firefox on the same Mac shows a similar banner: has control of your pointer. Press Esc to take back control. > enscape3d.com has control of your pointer. Press Esc to take back control. The problem is that the banner pops up and down briefly every single time I click or hold down the mouse button to pan around in the CAD app. This moves the rest of the view frame down, resulting in a glitchy and jumpy visual display as I'm using the app. Like the text says, the banner hides when I press Escape and the mouse cursor is shown when I press Escape again. But the banner always comes back the next time I click so this is not a useful solution. Very annoying visual glitch that makes it almost impossible to use the web app. Is this a feature in Safari? Is there any way to turn off the notification banner permanently? (The Firefox version is also annoying, but at least pops up above the content and does not push the entire website content down.)
