It's really frustrating that in Safari, Chrome when i use the horizontal scroll it switches between tabs instead of scrolling the page. I've tried to go through the settings but found nothing on it. I would be grateful for advice.

I've been using this mac for about 8 months with my current wifi setup. For some reason, one day I just started getting a lot of ERR_NETWORK_CHANGED errors in Google Chrome. Nothing has changed, I have not moved my router or my Mac and the devices connected to the wifi are the same, yet I still get these errors. I did not apply any software updates to my Mac so I don't know what the root cause could be. What are some possible causes in a sudden uptick of these errors?

I'm using a new MacBook Pro 15" with macOS 10.13.4 configured with the default Color LCD color profile. I'm doing some graphic design work and noticed that all colors in Chrome and Safari appear "washed out" when compared to Firefox. The latter has more saturated/vibrant colors. And this happens to native HTML/CSS elements (i.e. not images only). Here's a screenshot of the SmashingMagazine homepage with the comparison (Chrome on the left, Firefox on the right). Notice how the colors are more vibrant in Firefox (right): enter image description here If I change my display's color profile to sRGB IEC61966-2.1, then both Chrome and Firefox look the same. Why is this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I may have triggered some keyboard shortcut that permanently dimmed my macOS Chrome browser’s windows. - I can't figure out how to undo it. - I've tried resetting all chrome settings back to default and toggling Force Color Profile setting in chrome://flags (from default to sRGB) as suggested to no avail. This is only affecting the Chrome app. Attached screenshot shows safari window (left) and chrome window. enter image description here Note that I have already tried deleting and reinstalling Chrome. I did not delete profile information from ~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome though. However, I'm not so sure of this since while researching this more, I just got prompted again and checked the number of Chrome entries in system settings: there are now 11 entries for chrome. I am using an existing profile. How can I configure Chrome to not ask for this permission? How can I configure the Mac to turn off this prompt for all applications?

I work for an MSP (Managed Service Provider). We're encountering a recurring issue across different clients running macOS 15.5 (Sequoia) systems where Google Chrome becomes corrupted or non-functional. After a successful installation, Chrome works normally for a time, but later becomes unlaunchable. Upon inspection, the .app bundle in /Applications is missing critical files, including the main binary under Contents/macOS. #### What We've Observed: - Chrome is installed from the official .dmg and initially works as expected. At some point later (often after a reboot or idle period), - Chrome fails to launch. The app bundle remains in /Applications, but key files are missing. Running spctl --assess reports the app as invalid or corrupted. - The com.apple.quarantine attribute is often absent from the bundle. - Reinstalling Chrome restores functionality, but the issue may recur. #### Additional Context: - One client reported the same thing happening to Microsoft Edge and I had seen community reports indicating Brave may also be affected. These are both Chromium-based browsers. - Vivaldi, also Chromium-based, appears unaffected. - No alerts or actions are logged by our endpoint protection or MDM tools (e.g., CrowdStrike, InTune). - We suspect macOS system security tools (e.g., MRT, Gatekeeper, or XProtect) may be silently removing or quarantining files from Chrome. #### What We've Tried: - Tested on clean macOS 15.5 systems (VM and personal MacBook Pro): Chrome installs and runs fine, no corruption observed. - Manually ran MRT using: sudo /Library/Apple/System/Library/CoreServices/MRT.app/Contents/MacOS/MRT -a It exits silently with no indication of action. - MRT logs show normal startup and shutdown behavior—no deletions or signature failures. Workaround: Installing Chrome to ~/Applications (user space) allows users to reinstall it without admin rights. This avoids the issue so far, but it's not a long-term solution. ### Questions 1. Has anyone else observed this behavior on macOS 15.5 with Chrome or other Chromium-based browsers? 2. Could MRT, Gatekeeper, or XProtect be responsible for removing files from a valid Chrome installation? 3. Are there logs or tools that can confirm if a system process is deleting these files? 4. Any suggestions for monitoring or preventing this behavior? ### New information from 7/17/2025: - First reported case of this issue on a machine *not* running macOS 15.5. The user was running 15.4.1. - I obtained the GoogleUpdater log from this computer and it has a gap over the period when the files were removed so I don't think Google Updater messed with those files on this machine. That still leaves the question of what did. - Etrecheck didn't show too much but it did show Chrome was unsigned. I'd expect this because the _CodeSignature directory in the app bundle is empty when this issue presents.

Note the the mouse cursor generally changes when moving across certain boundaries, i.e. in a web browser when you move the cursor over a text form, it changes from an arrow to a caret, and vice versa when you exit the text area. [This Chrome bug](https://issues.chromium.org/issues/430116472) describes an issue with fullscreen Chrome instances where the cursor gets into a bad state in a predictable way. Assume (hypothetically) that there is some OS-level command that I can issue that essentially does "check what kind of thing the cursor is over, and reset the cursor to the right type". Then as a workaround for the bug, I could write an automator app that fires that command a few times per second. Does the hypothetical command exist? EDIT: I've added a workaround that I discovered, to the bug linked above.

This is a part of a bigger script that I isolated and have an issue with:
tell application "Google Chrome" to activate
delay 2
tell application "System Events"
	click ¬
pop up button "Multi Layout Manager" of ¬
toolbar 1 of group 1 of window 1 of ¬
		application process "Chrome"
	delay 0.2
	repeat 3 times
		key code 48 -- # tab key
		delay 0.2
	end repeat
	key code 36 -- # enter key
end tell
It automatically clicks on a Chrome extension (Multi Layout Manager) and selects a saved template. Sometimes it works like a charm, then other times it just doesn't. The error I get is this:
error "System Events got an error: Can’t get pop up button \"Multi Layout Manager\" of toolbar 1 of group 1 of window 1 of application process \"Chrome\"." number -1728 from pop up button "Multi Layout Manager" of toolbar 1 of group 1 of window 1 of application process "Chrome"
I can't figure out what's wrong here. Some help would be great. thank you

Several months ago I switched to a new laptop with Catalina on it. On this machine the passwords for sites that used to be stored in the browser are no longer being offered. I have to type them in every time. Some sites do work properly as far as remembering cookies/logins - e.g. _zillow.com_ - more of them do not. Examples of the latter include _utexas.edu_ and for _chase.com_. I use _Chase_ frequently and can see it in Google Password Manager: enter image description here But I have to enter the password *every time* _anyways_ The keychain does seem to be working: I can see plenty of entries in it. Here is recent history: enter image description here Also: **Offer to save passwords** is enabled: enter image description here Note that passwords *are* filled in /remembered for Safari So why are passwords not being populated on Chrome? I am on macOS Catalina with latest chrome Version 84.0.4147.135 **Update** Based on comment from @JBallin > Go to your chrome settings. Under"Site Settings" - "Cookies" - you see an "Allow" button. Click on the "add" and then add: accounts.google.com (source) – JBallin 3 hours ago I was looking for how to "allow" _accounts.google.com_ . I do not see an "allow" button enter image description here Update again: now I foudn this under Cookies and other site data - and added _accounts.google.com_ (i had previously added 2 sites that are still not working): enter image description here

It is my habit to have dozens of chrome tabs open across a dozen workspaces in macOS. Often I want to to re-organize these tabs. For example, I may have an instance of chrome on workspace 5 with 10 tabs. Let's say that I want to detach 3 of these to a separate instance of chrome on the same workspace. This has worked fine for years. However, after the upgrade to macOS Catalina, when I detach the first tab, I and the tab are forced to a completely different workspace containing a completely different instance of chrome. This is extremely disorienting and annoying and it happens every single time that I detach a single tab from an instance of chrome. I've tried these commands in the terminal as suggested here : $ defaults write com.apple.dock workspaces-auto-swoosh -bool YES $ killall Dock But when I detach a tab now, the tab just seems to disappear. It is actually transported to one of my 12 workspaces but I am not. Now I have to go searching for it. This is driving me insane. Anyone have a work-around? **UPDATE: I've confirmed this is a bug in chrome not macOS mission control** This is so annoying that I switched to firefox and firefox does NOT experience the same issue.
