I recently updated to the latest macOS Ventura security patch. Ever since I did so, attempting to start Barrier prompts me with a dialog stating > **"Barrier" would like to control this computer using accessibility features.** > Grand access to this application in Privacy & Security settings, located in System Settings. With options for "Open System Settings" and "Deny" (no "Allow"). In System Settings, Barrier is already listed with the "Allow" option enabled. Disabling and re-enabling Barrier does not dissuade macOS from showing me the dialog instead of launching the application. Removing Barrier from the list (with the - button) and re-adding it also doesn't seem to change anything. How can I convince macOS to let me run this application, as I was prior to the macOS update installation?

Hiding the current application with cmd/⌘-H does not work when current app is only non-hidden one, but does work when there are other, non-hidden applications. Why? And is there some way to make it work? I just discovered this when upgrading from Catalina to Monterey. I've been using macOS for at least 10 years, and cmd/⌘-H has _always_ hidden the current application, even when said app is the only non-hidden one. cmd-option-H (which hides all the non-current applications) appears to work just fine. My father has a 2019 iMac (with latest version of macOS installed) and about 800GB of free space. The Mac is taking too long to open apps. First, when you click on an app nothing initially happens. After a few seconds, the icon starts bouncing and after minutes, the app launches. After opening and closing the app, it launches quickly. What is the problem? This is the Activity Monitor while opening Word. Also I just found out that when the wifi is off every thing is ok and apps run fast.

I deleted an app using Appclear. then this popup show up: **App damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash.** (Move to Trash) or (Cancel) Whether I click “Move to Trash” or “Cancel” buttons, this popup show up again and again I tried this command, but it did not work: sudo xattr -rds com.apple.quarantine /Applications/AppName.app

Somehow I deleted the contents of the Applications folder under my username (User/Applications). However, when I typed "Applications" into Spotlight, it gave me a folder called Applications. How can I restore those applications using the Time Machine?

On my MacBook, when I navigate to the iCloud directory via Terminal with the command:

I see multiple folders related to old iCloud-connected apps that I no longer use or have installed. Most of these folders are empty (0B in size), but they persist in the directory. For example:

However, the folders either persist or reappear immediately upon running ls again. Additionally, when I check System Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > “Show All” (linked apps), these apps do not appear in the list of connected services. Apps such as Pro Writer, Day One, Scriptable, and Overcast, which I have no current association with, still appear in the Mobile Documents folder. My goal: I want to clean up the Mobile Documents directory to make it easier to navigate and manage files for currently used apps. Questions: 1. After a successful installation, Chrome works normally for a time, but later becomes unlaunchable. Upon inspection, the .app bundle in /Applications is missing critical files, including the main binary under Contents/macOS. #### What We've Observed: - Chrome is installed from the official .dmg and initially works as expected. At some point later (often after a reboot or idle period), - Chrome fails to launch. The app bundle remains in /Applications, but key files are missing. Running spctl --assess reports the app as invalid or corrupted. - The com.apple.quarantine attribute is often absent from the bundle. - Reinstalling Chrome restores functionality, but the issue may recur. #### Additional Context: - One client reported the same thing happening to Microsoft Edge and I had seen community reports indicating Brave may also be affected. Any suggestions for monitoring or preventing this behavior? ### New information from 7/17/2025: - First reported case of this issue on a machine *not* running macOS 15.5. The user was running 15.4.1. - I obtained the GoogleUpdater log from this computer and it has a gap over the period when the files were removed so I don't think Google Updater messed with those files on this machine. That still leaves the question of what did. - Etrecheck didn't show too much but it did show Chrome was unsigned. I'd expect this because the _CodeSignature directory in the app bundle is empty when this issue presents.

How to configure shortcut to toggle keyboard light on and off on MacBook Air M2? Like I am have set it to 20% and when I press shortcut it sets to 0%, then if I press the shortcut again it sets to 20% again(toggling). I am tired to enter setting, or open menubar thing to add 1% of keyboard backlight to type 10 words and then turn it back off. Any app for this situation?

If I copy an application already have in my Apple ID (Edit: for example, Xcode) from another computer to the Applications folder, will the Mac App Store be able to update it? Or will I have to do something manually in order to enable updates from that app?

For a while I have been experiencing issues with unwanted background activation of the Podcast application on my Mac mini running Catalina. I realize that the app is "on" when the Mac suddenly slows down and RAM issues start. The app is not displayed as open in the Dock but I can see it as running when I open the Force Quit window. Once I click Force Quit the Mac goes back to normal. It happens with no apparent reason, sometimes after boot up, and at other times while browsing, once every week, and not apparently induced by sort clicking some "podcast-associated" link/web. Ive never used the app so it has no podcasts listed.

As the title clearly describes, the dot icon stays on dock for some apps such as VS Code, Terminal, Safari, and Finder despite I have closed the app. I am using Catalina 10.15.1. I have to manually right click those apps and select Quit in order to remove the dots on the dock.

I want to write an AppleScript App that starts a full screen slideshow with all pictures in the currently active folder in Finder (on Big Sur/Apple M1). Manually, in Finder I would have to open a folder, press command ⌘+ A to select all pictures (or files) inside, then press option ⌥+ spacebar to start the slideshow. Someone sent me a pdf on telegram, then I downloaded it and imported (opened) it into goodnotes. Later I want to delete the pdf from telegram downloads but not from goodnotes. Will it stay in goodnotes as a copy or get deleted once i delete telegram pdf file from downloads?

When on a hotel's hotspot, the majority of ports are closed, except 80, 443 and 22. I would like to connect to my FTP, or connect Steam to play my games, etc. I tested ProxyCap and Proxifier which redirected all my traffic to my sock server at home, but trials versions has expired, and I don't want to pay for something that I use a few weeks in a year. I know I can set the proxies settings in my Mac settings, but all the applications don't use it (like Steam). Does a free alternative of ProxyCap and Proxifier exist on MacOSX?

When I want to download an app (clicking on the cloud with arrow icon) or when I want to update an app (like XCode), the app gets the "square in circle" icon and stays like this forever. - clicking on the square does not stop/cancel the process - signing out and back in the App Store or restarting the MacBook (Big Sur) did not help (i.e. the same behaviour when signing back in or after restart. - there is Internet (since I see and choose App Store content) Is there a command line (in the terminal) to force cancel a started download / update? Is there a place (log file or already installed logging app) to see the errors why App Store is stuck?

I am using a MacBook Pro 13-inch 2018 running macOS Sequoia 15.4. I would like to access the local files of the Signal Messanger App, which are – according to the support website – located at ~/Library/Application Support/Signal. However, when navigating to ~/Library/Application Support, there simply is no Folder called Signal. As far as I am aware, this folder should not be hidden, so I should be able to see it normally in the file browser. Does anyone know why this folder does not exist?

A few days ago, I logged out of my Instagram account when I wanted to log in again. The error below appeared in three of my accounts, but I could log in to any other account. “Error: Sorry, there was a problem with your request” I erased all data and documents from my iPhone 13 Pro Max, but the data did not erase. The accounts show me again and the same error. I deleted Instagram data from iCloud, but the accounts shown in the picture remain in the application. I want to take this step because there is an error in the application; I can log in from my accounts on any other phone. Is there a solution to this problem?

My brother can't get the app, it says he has to pay. He is in my family on apple, and I already paid for these games, but it still says the price for him to pay. I set that purchases and subscriptions are both shared (this app is a purchase, not a subscription, but this is irrelevant). The app in question is Monument Valley 2. Why doesn't it show as purchased/free download for my brother? ps. It just came to my mind that, maybe the purchases are only shared in sense that a certain payment method is "shared". In my opinion, nothing is shared here, and in this case, only the card would be charged multiple times for each family member. If this is the case (if the "sharing" applies only to the sharing of a mean of payment, between family members), then this my question is not relevant.
