Basically I am trying to install a brand new Aura Pro X2 480gb SSD into a Macbook Air 2014, the original apple SSD has failed and is not seen by the Macbook Air. I know the Aura Pro X2 requires High Sierra as the previous system so the firmware updates via the Macbook Air.
But for some reason whenever I try to install High Sierra using a bootable installer via the Macbook Air, I get an error message stating that the computer is missing firmware partition on any device. I try to install High Sierra on to, been it a USB key or an external hard drive etc.
Is there anyway I can get High Sierra installed via a USB or external hard drive so the firmware partition updates, so I can then see the new Auro Pro X2 480gb SSD and install new system on to it?
I've tried formatting USB keys and hard drives in different ways but keep getting the missing firmware partition message on anything I do.
I have an old 2008 Mac Pro and also a 2011 Mac mini, if those can be useful in anyway to solving this issue I have.

I have a couple of older (High-Sierra) Apple products that I use for some non-essential tasks, for some reason after some kind of update the audio stopped working on both of them. After pulling my hair out for the past week trying to solve the issue I finally figured it out and wanted to post here with the solution in case anyone else runs into the same problem:
**The Problem**
- Computer updates and restarts (not sure what exactly is being updated...)
- After restart no sound devices are working and the Sound section of System Preferences is inaccessible.
**Everything I Tried (That Failed)**
- Restarting/Shut-Down
- Disk First-Aid
- Booted to Safe Mode
- PRAM and SMC reset
- Terminal commands to restart
coreaudiod
- Reinstall of OS (Command-R on boot)

To be clear, I want to just use native tools that are built-in to macOS, so **Preview** in this case.

I have a fleet of 7 macbook pro's running mac osx 10.10, 10.11, and 10.12, and 3 mac pro's running mac os 10.13 ("high sierra").
On all systems, I have set it to never sleep the system or display.
Oddly, that doesn't suffice, so I also use caffeinate to prevent sleep.
On the 10.13 systems, though, the display still goes to sleep, no matter what I try. This affects two things:
- my opengl tests hang
- "osascript -e 'tell app "System Events" to restart'" hangs
Since only the display is asleep, I can still ssh in and look around.
I currently run my script under caffeinate -dsiu -t 31536000, and when it hangs, evidently I've still got all the proper assertions going:
$ pmset -g assertionslog
2017-11-20 19:34:27 -0800 : Showing all currently held IOKit power assertions
Assertion status system-wide:
BackgroundTask 0
ApplePushServiceTask 0
UserIsActive 1
PreventUserIdleDisplaySleep 1
PreventSystemSleep 1
ExternalMedia 0
PreventUserIdleSystemSleep 1
NetworkClientActive 1
and yet the display is in DevicePowerState 1:
$ ioreg -n IODisplayWrangler | grep -i IOPowerManagement
| | "IOPowerManagement" = {"DevicePowerState"=1,"CapabilityFlags"=0,"CurrentPowerState"=1,"MaxPowerState"=4}
Executing another caffeinate -u wakes the display up and puts it into DevicePowerState 4 for 15 or so seconds, then it goes back to sleep and DevicePowerState 1, even if I give a longer timeout with -t. I've also tried repeating the -t argument after each assertion (in case the confusing manpage meant that).
To rescue "osascript -e 'tell app "System Events" to restart'",
I have to issue "caffeinate -u". "caffeinate -d" or "caffeinate -i" are not sufficient.
See my comments at https://github.com/newmarcel/KeepingYouAwake/issues/92 for more details.
I guess I should use lldb to get a backtrace from a hung opengl test, figure out what API it's hung on, and then create a minimal app that sets the appropriate power management assertion, sleeps a bit, then calls the hanging API. I'll try to do that when I get a chance.
To work around it, I currently have this in a background script:
while true
do
caffeinate -ud sleep 10
done
but that's not enough; CurrentPowerState dips down to 1 frequently on
all systems (though I think only the 10.13 systems actually sleep the
display and hang my tests).
Has anyone else run into this? Any suggestions how I can diagnose this further?

Bootcamp not appearing as bootable disk on High Sierra

I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13", Late 2013, 8GB/251GB) on which I have had a Bootcamp partition installed with Windows7 for several years (probably since early days, i.e. since 2014). Initially the MBP ran Mavericks OS, which I thereafter have continuously updated to current OS of High Sierra (10.13.6). Booting Windows has never been a problem. Until now. Now it does not show up when booting and pressing Alt/Option - only the *Macintosh HDD* is visible.
Half a year ago I did the stupid mistake of running down free HDD space to something like 10 GB and as people might know this is not really appreciated by MacOS. However, I was able to get back to dry land after reading several forum posts. I am suspecting that this episode might have been the event that screwed up my Bootcamp somehow.
Initially there **was** a corrupted MBR table as other posts have dealt with, e.g. these:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252319323?login=true&sortBy=best
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252776981?sortBy=best&page=3
https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/308824/how-to-convert-a-drive-from-the-gpt-format-to-the-hybrid-gpt-mbr-format-when-usi
I followed the instructions there (using *fdisk*, not *gdisk*) and on the face of it, everything looks fine - at least in my eyes. MacOS is of a different opinion unfortunately, so I am at a loss of what to do now. I provide some basic screen shots below, which hopefully might provide clues.
I do notice now that the gpt command shows "Suspicious MBR at sector 0" now - unsure if that actually was there earlier today.
Looking at the MBR it looks like this
The Bootcamp disk is available in all of the following situations:
1. Disk utility in MacOS
2. Finder (showing all individual files as well, and I can even copy files to Mac folders)
3. In recovery mode (command+R) as a choice of bootable disk (will not boot though)
4. Startup Disk (in System Preferences)
So, the basic problem is that it seems to be **almost** correctly configured, but not fully, and the disk is just not showing up while booting (and pressing Alt/Option).
-----------
**UPDATE 09.03.2024 10.41 CET**
In order to exhaust all alternatives I did try with the Win7 boot drive again after having reset both SMC and NVRAM, but unresponsive keyboard and track pad remained.
I thereafter pursued the Win10 avenue instead and downloaded a "fresh" x64 version (ISO) from Microsoft's homepage and started creating a bootable flash drive (size 32 GB), using Boot Camp Assistant (BCA), from that ISO. However, BCA throws me an error message during the process some 15-20 minutes in, see below.
I looked into this issue, which of course others have encountered. I tried the eject recommendation, but there was not any mountings to eject in my case really, and the one that popped up in *Disk Utility* could not be ejected as it was in use for the BCA process.
Terrible wall of problems this has turned into :)
-----------
**UPDATE 25.05.2024 14.23 CET**
I was able to copy all files I deemed necessary to salvage from the Bootcamp partition, so I took the decision to just erase/restore the partition and repurpose it as Mac space after that.
Just as you pointed out, David Anderson, it turned into a too complex a maneuver, especially since I was able to salvage the files of interest (I hope).
Nevertheless, I very much appreciate the assistance along the way, which gave me some new insights as well as dragged me to a decision point.
Many thanks!
...and hopefully this post may be of usage to somebody else in the future.

I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro with macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 installed.
I have just found out that my Smart LG TV with webOS has AirPlay incorporated so, I would like to mirror my MacBook Pro screen on my TV.
However I can't find AirPlay on my MacBook. Already searched for some solutions on Google but the only option that I found was to go to Screen Settings on System Preferences and turn on "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" which it is. However the AirPlay icon doesn't appear in the Menu Bar.
Does anyone know how to solve this? Is my MacBook too old to support AirPlay?

I'm using a MacBook Pro with a Swedish physical keyboard but with a U.S. layout defined in System Preferences. However, the tilde (~) and plus-minus (±) keys seem switched. The following key combination should produce a ~:
![Screenshot of a Swedish keyboard with U.S. layout ][1]
Because the mapping in System Preferences says so:

But it results in a ± symbol.
It seems these two keys (± and ~) are switched somehow. How do I make them work as shown in System Preferences?

Hi before updating my macOS to 10.13.6 I was able to use the next command:
>
defaults write com.apple.dashboard devmode YES
to **drag my safari web clip widgets from Dashboard to my desktop**, but after I updated the OS version to High Sierra I face the error after a widget is placed on the desktop doesn't appear and I see the **error** right in the center of the **empty widget** which had been placed on the desktop:
> Missing Plug-in
despite the dashboard widgets such as Clock and Calendar display on the desktop perfectly.
I googled about it but found nothing and can't guess what's wrong.
But I found that this feature of placing widgets from Dashboard to desktop works well with the same OS version which I use (High Sierra, 10.13.6.).
I guess something wrong with my OS / Safari.
I can't update my OS right now so I would be appreciated for advice about how to fix this without updating my OS to the latest.
Safari version: 13.0.3 (no updates available in AppStore for my OS version.
What I tried which did not help:
write com.apple.dashboard devmode NO
write com.apple.dashboard devmode YES
killall Dock
reboot
One of the web clips in the Dashboard is very important for me so I'd like to see it on my desktop again.
Thanks for your help!
