Hi before updating my macOS to 10.13.6 I was able to use the next command:
>
defaults write com.apple.dashboard devmode YES
to **drag my safari web clip widgets from Dashboard to my desktop**, but after I updated the OS version to High Sierra I face the error after a widget is placed on the desktop doesn't appear and I see the **error** right in the center of the **empty widget** which had been placed on the desktop:
> Missing Plug-in
despite the dashboard widgets such as Clock and Calendar display on the desktop perfectly.
I googled about it but found nothing and can't guess what's wrong.
But I found that this feature of placing widgets from Dashboard to desktop works well with the same OS version which I use (High Sierra, 10.13.6.).
I guess something wrong with my OS / Safari.
I can't update my OS right now so I would be appreciated for advice about how to fix this without updating my OS to the latest.
Safari version: 13.0.3 (no updates available in AppStore for my OS version.
What I tried which did not help:
write com.apple.dashboard devmode NO
write com.apple.dashboard devmode YES
killall Dock
reboot
One of the web clips in the Dashboard is very important for me so I'd like to see it on my desktop again.
Thanks for your help!

I have no idea how to parse these. Running them through

reveals some indecipherable binary/hex, except for an ASCII string at the top, "ICC_PROFILE", which I assume refers to color profiling, since "RGB" appears shortly after.

Something like this:
There is Cover Flow, but it's not what I need.
Also I don't need any Finder replacement; I just want to fix this missing feature in Finder.

I did not ever install applications by "HighPoint Technologies" or "Other World Computing," and I certainly never approved the activation of system software by either of these developers.

I have recently starting using Mail.app with two email accounts (work and home). Every now and then I send email while having the wrong folder selected, and the default "from" account will be not what I expect. Are there any extensions or tips to make the currently selected "from" jump out at me in the compose window if it's not the 'default' from address? In other words, 99% of the time, I use my main account, but if I accidentally open a compose window with the alternate account, I'd like a different background color in the compose window, or some big flashing icon or something. The problem case happens because I was reviewing a folder in the non-default account. Any ideas?

I'm looking for a quick way to deal with messages that in my opinion are not quite spam. Mostly advertising emails from companies that I've dealt with in the past. I don't want them banished to the spam folder, but I don't want them cluttering my inbox.
I can:
- Select a message.
- Select Mail:Settings:Rules
- Add rule. (Conveniently the message's from address is already entered.)
- Select the mailbox I want to move the message to.
- Select OK.
But that's more time than I want to take. I'd like a quick button or pull-down to add this kind of rule quickly and be done. Does anyone know of an extension, shortcut, automator, or script that does this? Hopefully, some script that adds or edits rules? I've seen several scripts working with sending messages or moving messages, but haven't found any that work with Mail's Rules. Aren't there any script handles for the rules?

been trawling the forums and online articles trying to figure this out but haven't managed. I'll be very grateful if someone can point me in the right direction!
**Objective:
To create an option in the print menu that will output a PDF and open it immediately in a specified application. That's it.**
---
I believe Automator should be able to do this by:
1. New Automator flow created - 'Print Plug-in' - This enable the option to come up in the Print menu (success!). And the description - Print Plugin receives PDF files from the print system sounds perfect - i.e. - It will input a PDF into the plug-in flow.
2. ...? This is where I must be doing something wrong. Tried so far:
a. 'Set application for files - 'This action selects the application used to open the specified files.' - However, when I run the plug-in, nothing happens.
b. 'Launch application' - When I use this, the application I want to output the PDF to launches, but the actual PDF output doesn't open in it.
c. A combination of a and b - ie - Launch application then set it for files - This has a similar result to b.
---
I'm at a loss of what to do here. I suspect it must be something very simple! Would appreciate any help.
Thanks in advance!

I considered this more appropriate for this StackExchange site rather than StackOverflow because it is not directly related to programming. Also [these answers](https://apple.stackexchange.com/q/152541/58460) unfortunately did contain a solution. I also wrote a feedback in feedback assistant but according to my experience that is unlikely to be heard.
NSFileProviderManager
. Then I try to get a clean environment again.
1. I completely erased Xcode's DerivedData.
2. I emptied the trash because macOS does not care about the locations in this regard and loads extensions from there, too.
3. I removed all of the extensions file provider domains from the side bar in Finder.
Looking for my extension in pluginkit yields no results by running this command:
$ pluginkit -vvvvmi
(no matches)
It also does not appear in the full list when leaving out the explicit identifier specification. **Still it appears in the list of the system settings! Where does this come from and how to reset it?** I can enable and disable them in the system settings. They even survive a reboot. And in macOS' Console.app I continuously see entries about the file providers displayed as "SomeProduct" and "Provider" here along their bundle identifiers. It appears like I messed up fileproviderd
.

I have tried:
- Reinstalling MacOS Mojave in-place (did not fix).
- Creating a new user (everything works for new user).
How can I further investigate this?

I'm preparing to upgrade to the latest Mac OS, and before I do, I'll need to find all the projects that use legacy plugins that will no longer be compatible and render the audio in place. I think a lot of people, whether they've thought of this or not, would find this helpful, as OS upgrades often make older projects unplayable for this reason.

I’m interested in disabling the bottom 20% of the 2016 MacBook Pro trackpad. So a roughly 1/2” tall row across the entirety of the trackpad, on the edge furthest from the keyboard.
When sitting in a chair/couch, my hand or my stomach end up touching the bottom edge of the trackpad, because the tracking surface extends so far to the edge of the computer. This causes unwanted clicks/scrolls/other interactions. This was not the case with the previous MacBook Pro, as the trackpad was smaller and inset away from the edge of the computer.
So if I could programmatically disable some of the surface, and then put some tape over it to remind myself of where to track/click, I wouldn’t have this issue.
Is there an app or plugin that does this?
Thanks!

macOS of course has an Extensions control panel in the System Preferences,
so it is clearly possible to make sharing extensions that appear *somewhere*. But not all of the sharing options that appear in Music are in the Extensions control panel:
and those that do are very generic, so it's not clear to me whether I can extend the sharing options in Music or not. Additionally, most of the extensions in the "Share Menu" category are *not* appearing in Music.app's "Sharing" menu.
Is it possible to write an extension that will appear in the Sharing menu in the Apple Music app?

So I was downloading plugins for Garageband. They were Audio Units, so they work with Garageband, and I was also able to drag and drop my Component files into the Components folder, my usual process of being able to use plugins on Garageband. You know going to Macintosh HD> Library> Audio> Plug-Ins> Components. I've done this process lots of times. It works. But when I tried to use the new Plugins--Which I will say, do show up in Garageband--it says “*Plugin Name*.component” cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified.". When I click Cancel it says "Audio Unit plug-in can’t be used" and then just does nothing.
This has been happening with all the new plug-ins I've been adding, I haven't been able to use one. I've tried restarting multiple times and it still says the same thing.
How can I fix this?

I'm using these filters with Shairport-Sync on a Raspberry Pi and they work really really well.
I want to also use them with my Mac, but I haven't found a way to do it yet. What I'm hoping for is that there is some piece of software that can read in the audio stream, apply the filter and then output it seamlessly - whether that be some sort of plugin for macOS itself, or whether it means routing audio through a software processor using something like Blackhole .

I've found solutions for this problem but they dont seem applicable now in 2017.
For some reason, Google Chrome Helper is using a lot of my CPU and fans are going full blast. I found this link on Apple's site that seems to help everyone but I can't seem to find it on my version of Chrome. I have a MBP running 10.9.5.
They mention to go to Chrome > preferences > settings > show advanced settings > content settings (under privacy). Then click the 'click to play' button under the Plugins section. However, there's no plugins section and so I can't do this to try to fix the problem. I'm using Chrome version 56.0.2924.
I don't have many extensions installed on Chrome (just Webex, Google docs, Okta). I have Flash installed too, which I think is taking some resources but there are times I'm not watching video or using anything with Flash and it's still using 150% CPU.
What workaround can I do with this version of Chrome to make Google Chrome helper from using > 150% CPU?

Omnikey is a very useful Safari extension that allows searching user-selected webpages by entering user-selectable keys preceding the search term. For example, entering "w Los Angeles" in the Safari address bar on my computer and pressing return opens a new Safari window in Wikipedia that's searching for "Los Angeles." This is both easier and faster than navigating to the page you wish to search, entering the search term, then hitting return.
Here's a screenshot of the searches I've added to Safari on my Macs:
Unfortunately, Omnikey doesn't work with Safari 13.
Omnikey is very useful. Are there any other Safari extensions that provide the same functionality?
