After installing Windows on an external drive, it crashes when connecting via a SATA case. (Crashes when booting Windows, Linux, and macOS). The installation was based on the answer from [Drivers not working on Windows 10 installed (CLI process) on external SSD running on MacBook Air 2018](https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/384355/drivers-not-working-on-windows-10-installed-cli-process-on-external-ssd-runnin/384447#384447) . However, the exact procedure, including additional steps taken, is documented in a secret gist on GitHub.
I have tried multiple different cables and cases. I am using an Imac18,3. I have tried plugging the SATA case into the mac via USB-C to USB-C and USB-A to USB-C. All of these cables should allow data transfer.
The Cable that it works with is a USB-A to SATA cable.
The device crashes when plugging the drive in from boot. (Only if booting from that drive though)
Does anyone know why this happens? Is there a way to fix it?

What Does This Apple Crash Report Mean? I need to know if I need my Mac Replaced

My computer restarted this morning because of a problem. I want to know what it means (is it software or hardware, can I fix it?)
I have tried safe mode, and my computer is completely normal. I just don't want this to happen again. I'm going to be using this computer for school, and it's brand new.
I talked to an apple representative and all they said was to reinstall MacOS. Online, I saw other people with new computers have this issue and some said it was hardware.
If you know anything about code or the Apple script, would you please review my report to help me understand what the issue is? I saw other questions answered with people saying they had incomplete installations or improperly deleted files, and I want to make sure I don't have any of that. Is there something wrong with my mail app?
The attached code is not full because I didn't have enough space, but it ends with a long list of com.apple... like the first one I included. Let me know if these are important and I can share them.
Thanks in advance.

my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014) Big Sur 11.2.2 freezes regularly after login. I can only run it in safe mode. I had the problem before the update to Big Sur, I updated it hoping it would fix it, but I still have the same issue.
Things I tried:
Things I already tried:
-Etrecheck: all good
-Reboot in recovery and repair disk.
-Reset the SMC, the PRAM/NVRAM
-Went through all the tips in this article (but go to an expensive mac store)
-Uninstalled a bunch of old apps
I have some crash reports mentioning WindowServer, I used Ulbow to check the log relative to those 2 minutes in which the crash took place. It seems like every time it crashes I have a Windowserver crash report (see below)
My suspect is that I have an issue with GPU.
Any suggestion on how to determine if it is my GPU being faulty (maybe just dusty and old) or some software conflict? How to determine the problem? I have a full back up from time machine on an external drive in case I need to format, but I was hoping to make a couple of tests first. How to move on?
Thanks in advance for your precious help.
Here some failures in the log in the minute where Console is signalling a crash of WindowServer

XProtect Consistently Eating Tons Of RAM?

I recently updated my 2017 MBP to Ventura. Ever since, my system has been running very poorly
I've noted that 90% of the time, when it is acting up, there is an XProtectRemediatorSnowBeagle process taking up 2.01 GB of RAM – consistently. It does not go away, and force-quitting only works maybe half the time. Trying to kill it from terminal often fails as well, with some variant of "Operation Not Permitted"
It's usually a root-owned process. At least once, there's been a second copy of it, taking up another 2.01 GB of RAM, owned by the active user account
Other remediators, like XProtectRemediatorAdload, seem to run normally – they get up to something like 1.5 GB of RAM, and then finish what they're doing and quit. This one doesn't. It just sticks around in RAM
Sampling it in Activity Monitor shows a call graph hung on a _dispatch_group_wait_slow -> _dlock_wait -> __ulock_wait. I can't find any suspicious files open with lsof
I haven't tried a fresh install yet. I'm hoping to avoid it, as it's always a nightmare to get everything configured how I want it again. I'd really prefer to diagnose what's causing it to hang, and get rid of that... or reinstall XProtect, if that's a thing... or just disable it altogether, tbh, as I'm pretty confident in my ability to avoid malware on my own – but I can't figure out how to do any of that
Any ideas? I've tried an SMC reset, NVRAM / PRAM reset, disabling csrutil... no dice.

Why am I getting a CPU panic on MacBook Pro M4 during intensive computation?

I am not expert enough to understand the real cause of the malfunction, yet I am a bit worried as it happened when the computer was quite hot and the fans were not running.
Could you translate the error above into a more easily understandable description? Is this fault due to the hardware, the software or a mix of both?
Here is the [detailed report (2.3MB)](https://drive.google.com/file/d/11GFpiJck-c_pLuptsFZ5y6gCWo5BQAY1/view?usp=sharing) from /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/
.
After the malfunction I run Apple Diagnostic as explained here but no issue was found (other than the power cable being detached when the diagnostic was run).
System details:
- Apple MacBook Pro M4 Max
- 128 GB
- 2TB SSD
- macOS Sequoia 15.5

This is a slightly difficult issue to describe precisely but I'll do my best. About six weeks ago, my installation of Catalina (10.15.7, MacBook Pro 13" 2020 /
MacBookPro16,2
) started to exhibit some strange behaviour when left running overnight (or possibly: when left running unattended for several hours).
Sometimes, but by no means every day, I'll return to the machine in the morning and wake the screen to see a grey lock screen (no background image) and a prompt that will often only accept my password (i.e. not Touch ID). Upon unlocking the machine I'll see a series of errors and password prompts, which seem to be stuck in a loop (or maybe there are just enough of them queued up that it seems like a loop). These messages include:
Unapproved caller. SecurityAgent may only be invoked by Apple software
---
Unrecoverable error. SecurityAgent was unable to create requested mechanism builtin:unlock-keychain.
---
accountsd wants to use the “login” keychain. Please enter the keychain password.

assistantd wants to use the “login” keychain. Please enter the keychain password.
---
CommCenter wants to use the “login” keychain. Please enter the keychain password.
The system will give the appearance of being usable but isn't really. Symptoms include:
* Finder and Dock repeatedly restarting
* Generally unable to interact with menubar, e.g. to shut down
* Inconsistent ability to tab between apps and interact with or quit them
* Unable to start new apps from Dock or menubar shortcuts (icons just bounce for a while)
So far I have never been able to cleanly shut down the machine in this state and have had to power it off using the Touch ID / power button.
When booting back up, everything seems fine except sometimes Touch ID preferences have been reset (i.e. I have to enrol my finger again) and on one occasion my saved Bluetooth devices, except for mouse and keyboard, were deleted. For what it's worth, it does seem that if I "catch" the problem quickly enough, e.g. returning to the machine late at night, the damage is more limited and Touch ID is not always reset, however the other issues remain. I have also tried putting the machine into standby overnight by closing the lid, rather than leaving it running, but at least once the issue has still occurred (presumably the machine is waking up at some point overnight to do something).
I'm a bit stumped as to how to diagnose this. My hunch is that it's something to do with the system somehow losing access to Keychain – based on mentions in the error messages above. I did have iCloud Keychain enabled previously, but disabled it a couple of weeks ago, and the issue has happened at least once since then.
An answer to [another question](https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/245309/how-to-fix-corrupt-keychain-permissions) mentions Keychain permissions – these are mine, in case they're relevant:

Any light that anyone might be able to shed on this would be much appreciated! I have a TODO list item to upgrade to Big Sur, at which stage this might become moot, but until then I would really like to understand it better and avoid having to do these forced-shutdowns every now and then.
Thanks for reading and if I can provide any more info or data please ask.

I have an iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, late 2014). A while back the fusion drive died and I split them and used the SSD for the OS and an external 2TB SSD for storage.
The only issue I have had with the computer from this until now, is that it did not want to go to sleep. It also sounded like the HD kept spinning.
As of today the iMac keeps crashing and rebooting. When it's back up it warns that it can't read a connected drive.
Diskutil overview:
I believe ST3000DM001 is the culprit. I can't dismount nor format it.
Crash log: https://gist.github.com/sxaman/39a3edf7b8597460fbb278570d473e2e
Is it reasonable to think the old HDD is making my iMac crash?
If so, would a working fix be to remove power and data cable from the HDD? (I hope that is possible without interfering with the internal SSD.)
Or is there a less intrusive way (without having to take the iMac apart), where I can disable the old HDD completely?
Any help or suggestions are very much appreciated.

Mosh on Mac crashing with SIGSEGV Address Boundary error
I've been using mosh on my mac to connect to a few linux systems for a long time without issue. Now, whenever I try to connect to these same systems mosh almost immediately crashes (after validating the SSH connection and clearing the screen) with a "Job 1, 'mosh sentry' terminated by signal SIGSEGV (Address boundary error)".
Anyone have ideas how to resolve this?

Recently I believe it crashed, or something must have happened, and it cannot start since then. I've been using jar installed file before, now I came across this topic : https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/426713/how-to-help-the-jedit-application-find-java
and almost make it work... but it reaches the same point as .jar installation
It seems there is some cache that is not cleared neither with app nor by java reinstall. (I tried a couple of times).
What I can see is

I play go on the GoQuest iPhone app on my M1 Mac Mini. The app was downloaded from the App Store on the Mac (not iphone mirroring).
I run the app, it works great. But if I close it, it crashes at launch every subsequent time that I open it.
So whenever I restart my computer, I can use it again.
At this point I start it and I'm very careful to always minimize it and never close it. But at some point I always end up closing it.
I'm thinking that since it works again after a restart that it's not a problem with files but rather some process that the GoQuest app interacts with becomes weird but being unfamiliar with how macOS runs these iPhone apps, I haven't been able to find it.
Here is a partial crash report; only the start of it because of the limit on post size:

Non-metal GarageBand crashing on a Mac Sequoia (How to solve the issue!)

When I first installed the last non-metal version of the GarageBand on my then Sonoma-patched (OCLP) MacBook 2010 13', I've encountered a crash, and thought that it had something to do with Metal (albeit this is counter-intuitive) so I just gave up trying. But since I've installed Sequoia, I was curious to see if any of the non-metal versions would work on this version. I downloaded the one that weighs the least and tried it out (Pages). To my surprise it worked. So I downloaded GarageBand again. And it was crashing again. But since I was now aware that this is not a GPU or CPU related issue, I did some troubleshooting. Turns out the problem is within the singing. If you've downloaded that version from archive.org as I did, you might experience the same problem. I found a quick fix that worked for me, so I've decided to share it.
You'll probably have something like this in your crash report
Exception Type: EXC_CRASH (SIGKILL (Code Signature Invalid))
Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000
Termination Reason: CODESIGNING 1 Taskgated Invalid Signature
Triggered by Thread: 0
I'll post the solution in the answer here.

I have a 27" Late 2013 iMac with 8GB RAM and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M (2GB) GPU.
Last year my iMac started crashing now and then. Not only that, when it's in sleep mode it just falls out. I have to pull the wire out and in again and then it works again. Very annoying.
I brought it back to the store and they did a hardware check, nothing was wrong apparently.
They looked into the logs and saw that before my iMac crashed the 'Steam -app' was mentioned. So they suggested that I have to reinstall the iMac. Weird I know. So I asked a friend to do that for me since I'm too afraid to make a mistake.
So the iMac was clean and yet again after a few hours it crashed.
I downloaded software to see if the fans were working right or the temperature was too high. Again no problems. I used the console to get the CPU to work 100% to see if it would crash. *Nope*.
So I thought maybe it was the power supply and I tried a different cable. *Nope*
I looked into the log again and now I see that the last crash was because of **com.apple.dictionaryServiceHelper**??
I uploaded a screenshot of this:
I'm no iMac expert at all so I just don't know what to do anymore.
**How can I continue troubleshooting this?**

Sometimes my computer will crash and restart due to unknown errors. It usually happens when I'm working on something so a few apps are open. OS X has this annoying feature where it tries to reopen all apps when you restart. You can disable it when manually restarting, but it still does it if the computer restarts after a crash.
I think this feature was built to save time, but all it does is waste more time than it's worth, because whenever the computer restarts from a crash I usually just restart it once more (this time with "Reopen apps" disabled) just to get to a workable state. The problem is it'll keep spawning apps and preventing the restart from happening.
Disabling this feature would prevent me having to restart after a crash altogether. Is there a way to stop OS X from doing this?

My MacBook Pro 2016 with Touch Bar keeps having a kernel panic whenever I attempt to use a specific video file I recorded with my Atomos Shogun Flame. FCPX imports and uses all of the other files from the same shoot fine. However, if I try to play, create a proxy, or do anything that involves handling this file after import, my computer reboots.
So far I've attempted to re-encode the file using Adobe Media Encoder, but FCPX still has issues with it. I've tried importing the file into Adobe Premiere but the system still crashes (i.e. it freezes, turns off, then reboots). If I put my SSD back in the Atomos Shogun, and watch the entire file, it plays perfectly fine.
I've also attempted transferring the file from the SSD to my internal drive, as well as to my RAID prior to importing it, but that causes the same issue.
**Is there a tool that I can use to fix this file so my computer won't crash while using it? Or is there something else I can try to get around this issue?**
The Shogun Flame has limited file management capabilities, so I am unable to do anything on that end. I haven't purchased Apple Compressor, so Adobe Media Encoder is the primary tool I have to convert files.

How to fix localhost networking issues that affect several apps by resetting networking settings on macOS?
I had started encountering crashes on startup in multiple apps that all had networking issues at the core: - RStudio Desktop failed to start, giving error messages `[rsession-ka37] ERROR system error 49 (Can't assign requested address); OCCURRED AT rstudio::core::Error rstudio::core::http::initTcpIp...
I had started encountering crashes on startup in multiple apps that all had networking issues at the core:
- RStudio Desktop failed to start, giving error messages
[rsession-ka37] ERROR system error 49 (Can't assign requested address); OCCURRED AT rstudio::core::Error rstudio::core::http::initTcpIpAcceptor(SocketAcceptorService &, const std::string &, const std::string &) src/cpp/session/http/SessionPosixHttpConnectionListener.cpp:103; LOGGED FROM: int main(int, char *const *) src/cpp/session/SessionMain.cpp:2088
- Adobe Premiere crashed on startup during "Initializing Application", before even opening a project.
- Audacity failed to start with "The Audacity IPC server failed to initialize. This is likely due to a resource shortage and a reboot may be required.".
The last one was my most helpful clue: something was up with my computer's networking settings. It may have been because I had followed [these instructions](https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/208060/how-to-create-a-password-protected-ad-hoc-network-on-yosemite-when-not-connected/343645#343645) and created a fake network adapter to use for connection sharing. I had deleted that adapter and no evidence remained of it, but I still suspected something wrong with networking. (As it turns out, probably *deleting* the interface was the cause of my problems.)
OS is Big Sur (macOS 11.6.2).

A week ago, my mac pro 2012 was running Yosemite. At that point I made a backup of my phone, a 6s. currently running iOS 15.7.6
I then upgraded my mac it to High Sierra.
The night before, my phone updated to 15.7.6 from 15.7.5
Now, when I plug my phone in, this comes up:
If I click Install I get this about 2 seconds later.
Repeating this on my wife's High Sierra machine, it downloads installs the patch, and her mac can link to my phone.
I can reproduce this problem with what should become my new phone a iPhone 11 Pro max running 16.5.1
***
From my reading the problem is a program called MobileDeviceUpdater

I have a 48K crash log that makes no sense to me.
I have put a copy here:

Anyone who has the link can view.
I'm going to try a reinstall of High Sierra.

*mac connection to internet*
* Ethernet cable to router.
* Router through power injector to Fixed link LTE radio tranceiver mounted on a 60 foot mast. Relay to Telfordville tower, relay to Ponoka tower through several more towers. Fiber Optic to Alberta Supernet. VPN to ISP headquarters in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

*Connection to apple*
General connection to Apple is fine. I can download 300 MB install files in a few minutes.
I don't *think* there is a firewall issue, as I have no problem doing this from another computer running High Sierra. I am currently using wifi instead of cable, as it's an easy way to change IP addresses. Same behaviour.
Programs like Transmission torrent downloader works fine.
