I know how to trim start and trim end of a video or screen recording on the iPhone or iPad and upload to YouTube. But what if there are a few seconds in the video showing my user ID and I hope to blur it out or cut that few seconds out, is that possible inside of iPhone or iPad? One way is, I can trim the original into two videos. So for example, if the original video is 00:00 to 03:00, and I want to remove 02:00 to 02:06, then I can trim start / end to make video 1 as 00:00 to 2:00 and video 2 as 2:06 to 03:00 and then I have removed 02:00 to 02:06, but now I have two separate videos. Can I still somehow join them or upload to YouTube as 1 video?

My MacBook Pro 2016 with Touch Bar keeps having a kernel panic whenever I attempt to use a specific video file I recorded with my Atomos Shogun Flame. FCPX imports and uses all of the other files from the same shoot fine. However, if I try to play, create a proxy, or do anything that involves handling this file after import, my computer reboots. So far I've attempted to re-encode the file using Adobe Media Encoder, but FCPX still has issues with it. I've tried importing the file into Adobe Premiere but the system still crashes (i.e. it freezes, turns off, then reboots). If I put my SSD back in the Atomos Shogun, and watch the entire file, it plays perfectly fine. I've also attempted transferring the file from the SSD to my internal drive, as well as to my RAID prior to importing it, but that causes the same issue. **Is there a tool that I can use to fix this file so my computer won't crash while using it? Or is there something else I can try to get around this issue?** The Shogun Flame has limited file management capabilities, so I am unable to do anything on that end. I haven't purchased Apple Compressor, so Adobe Media Encoder is the primary tool I have to convert files.

I have a 3-hour long .mp4 video that has sensible breaks roughly every 30 minutes or so. I want to export this into multiple videos of each section, but have run into nothing but problems trying to do so. This isn't something I do often so I don't really want to invest in commercial tools for this one task, but as yet I can't find any free tool capable of this job. I really would prefer to just cut this up without having to decode and re-encode the file(s) all over again. I'd like to just mark the sections I want, and spit them out as standalone .mp4s. No other edits, no corrections, no effects, no anything... just cut & export without any formatting changes at all. I thought Handbrake could do this, but if it can I can't figure out how. I then thought maybe iMovie (10.x as I'm on Mavericks), but that's been nothing but headache and appears to decode the entire movie first before working with it anyway. Quicktime itself seems only able to direct export as .mov and I don't want to re-encode to mp4 all over again. I keep running into free/open source programs that either are only free in a very limited fashion (like 5 minute max exports, or nasty watermarks, etc.) or that won't run on Mavericks. Is what I'm looking to do just not possible without commercial software? Is it really so difficult to split one long mp4 into several shorter ones?

I've been using/learning iMovie in order to create online classes for my students because of COVID19. Everything has been working fine until this morning. iMovie just won't export a file. I've created and exported about 30 videos thus far and I understand the basics. But now, when I select all the clips in a project and select the "Share - File..." option and hit "OK", nothing happens. No error messages, nothing. The little pie-chart progress indicator flashes for a fraction of a second before disappearing for good. The application doesn't bug or freeze (as I can keep working on the video or move to other projects), it just doesn't export the file. I also can't export any of the videos it previously exported in the last few days and weeks. Nor will it export and brand new video. I tried deleting the preferences: didn't solve anything. I'm on 10.13 and iMovie 10.1.6 (and I can't upgrade). Thanks. P.S. The only change I made to the computer since yesterday is that I installed iOS 14 on my ipod touch. I had to use the MobileDeviceUpdater in order for iTunes to recognize my ipod touch. I can't imagine why it would change anything for iMovie, but nothing else changed.

Tool to split GoPro MP4 footage into smaller parts for use with iMovie

I recently started some basic editing of my GoPro footage using iMovie on macOS, but quickly ran into some limitations of iMovie i.e. it cannot import MP4 footage greater than around 2GB. I tried using ffmpeg to split up the MP4, but I think the GoPro metadata in the GoPro TCD, GoPro MET, GoPro SOS streams is tripping up ffmpeg and most of my attempts with it have been failures. Is there any other small, ideally command-line-based tool, that is known to work with GoPro MP4 footage to split them into smaller MP4s by duration or file size (while being mindful of the keyframes)? I am aware of Davinci Resolve but I am keen to prove the workflow with iMovie. I am looking for something that has a small footprint, is simple to use, doesn't do a whole lot of things, and is not a full-blown video editor (which would defeat the purpose of using iMovie)

I have a Mac Mini (Mid-2011 model), running Mac OS X 10.11.6, with iMovie 10.1.6. I have a iMovie Library.imovielibrary file in the ~/Movies folder, which contains all my iMovie projects. When I don't have iMovie running, and I perform a Time Machine backup, Time Machine backs up the file just fine. However, when I have iMovie running, Time Machine does not back up the file. For some reason, Time Machine believes the iMovie Library file has been deleted, while iMovie remains open. And then when I quit iMovie, Time Machine backs up the iMovie Library file again, since it is then able to "see" the iMovie Library again, even though it never went anywhere. And since Time Machine thought the iMovie Library was deleted, then later sees it, it thinks that the iMovie Library is new, so it backs the whole thing up, rather than only the changes that were made since the last iMovie Library backup. So, why does Time Machine believe that the iMovie Library is deleted while iMovie is open, and how can I fix it? I've already tried running First Aid on my internal drive, but that didn't fix it.

Are there other _good_ options out there\*? If so, what are they, and what are their pros/cons? \* I specified "good" because Google is useless for topic as the results are littered with sites offering “reviews” of software that *by some mere coïncidence * they also happen to sell. (Most of the sites and most of the software appear very similar as well.) There's clearly a lot of _crap_ out there

Is there some special format for the videos that mobile Safari can play? specs of the video as provided by QuickTime Player

However, Photo Booth seems to only let me select a single portion to save - beginning, end or middle. Edit: I ended up selecting the beginning, exporting, reverting the trim and selecting the end, then exporting again. A decent stopgap for me, but obviously not a complete solution since this creates two files, so I won't add this as an answer.

When converting to 720p whether the source is 1080p or 720p there is only a slight increase in file size.

So I have a simple task that I do a lot: trimming a video's head and tail off. On Windows, I open the photo, click edit, drag the bars to where I would like to cut, and I save. It will save as mp4 and I can overwrite the video by selecting the original video before saving (giving the new video the same name). However, on mac, it's not so easy. Method 1: Quicktime -- Open the MP4 video in Quicktime, trim it using an ios-like interface, and save the video as a MOV (no option to overwrite or to save as MP4). Import this MOV into Premiere Rush (which takes a long time to launch and is slow), tell premiere to export to mp4, and wait a minute. Then delete the original mp4 and the mov, and I've finally got the trimmed mp4. Method 2: VLC -- https://www.videoproc.com/troubleshoot-vlc/cut-or-trim-video-in-vlc-on-mac.htm It's clunky, but faster than Quicktime and better suited to my needs. One downside is that I cant tweak the start point once I start recording, I cant see ahead and if it goes too far ill have to trim it a second time, and there are pauses at the beginning and end. Method 3: iMovie -- this is my go-to method for splicing clips together and complex trimming (removing segments in the middle). However, it's slow to export and about as slow as the Quicktime method. I after researching, I could not find one app that trims as easily as Windows Video Player. I am asking the community if there is a simple, Quicktime-like video trimmer for mac that exports in MP4 instead of MOV. I am working with files that are usually 2-3 GB and therefore try to stay away from online services as much as possible (hence why I don't use cloud convert for mov to mp4). Edit: It needs to be free. **Solution:** along with losslesscut specified in the answer below, another solution is the Quick Look function. I'm not 100% sure if this is lossless, but if you want to simply trim video Quick Look has a simple video trimmer that allows you to replace existing video or create a new video in the original format. It is quite fast, making me think it is lossless.

So there's a super simple effect you can do in iMovie, where you add an image on top of the timeline, then set it to **Split Screen**, and use the **Slide** slider to set the timing, and the image will automatically slide in from the side, displace the main video so it is now centered in the remaining space, then slide back out after. I LOVE this effect. It's a great way to have things on screen and it's a huge time-saver that the main video automatically animates to maintain a decent layout. Here's how it looks on an iMovie timeline: screenshot of the configuration described above **So the question is, what's the easiest way to get this same effect in Final Cut?** I know how to add the image on top, and how to slide the image below over to align it, but it's a lot of clicking each time, and I haven't even integrated the "slide" animation. I'd love a drag-and-drop solution that gives a similar effect so I can use it over and over. Maybe it's already built-in?

A couple of times now, I've 'cuffed' a movie to make it family friendly, by reversing any bits of swearing - "We want ze neekuff money, Lebowski" etc. (the latest was Beetlejuice which has a single f-bomb in the middle). It's a bit of an involved process, involving extracting the audio stream with ffmpeg, editing it in audacity, then recombining it back with the video stream with ffmpeg again. Is there any free Mac software that would let me do this in one hit? Ie, be able to directly edit the audio stream (ideally with a reverse function), and save it straight out into a new video, without mucking about with reencoding and ffmpeg?
