How long does iPhone store the original of a cropped video?

I tend to take a lot of videos with my iPhone 12 (iOS version 15.6) but usually crop them to only keep the significant parts. However, I noticed that videos recorded and cropped almost 2 years ago still show the original and it lets me revert changes to restore the original. So my questions are: - How long does it keep the original (and potentially unnecessarily clutters up space) - Is there a way to change this setting?
