I like to read PDFs on iPad (manuals, articles etc.). For some reason, unlike on macOS Preview, the thumbnail side is shown permanently. This seems to me a SERIOUS design flaw: it deprives the user of control over the presentation, wastes precious screen space, and, most importantly, RANDOMLY – which I think is the worst quality of a design – reduces focus without ANY gain (the thumbnails could show up by tipping the screen, just as all other additional controls are and/or show up when scrolling).
Did I do something wrong or is there really no way to hide it?

I am running macOS 13 (Ventura) on a 2020 Intel MacBook Air with an iPhone 11 Pro running iOS 16.1 and a iPad mini running iPadOS 16.1.
I started to use Wi-Fi syncing for my iPhone and iPad again after years of not doing that. Just decided, “Hey! Why not try it again?”
Turned it on while hooked up via USB cables, have successfully synced a few times with purely Wi-Fi and no issues. Great! Smooth syncing and backups with no wires!
But I experienced an odd issue: If I “eject” the iPhone and iPad mini I can only get them to show up after rebooting the MacBook or oddly just waiting a while. No real logic as to what triggers them to show up again.
Is there any explicit way to get an iPhone or iPad that are set up for Wi-Fi syncing to show up again under “Locations” after ejecting them?
FWIW, I found this official Apple doc titled “Sync content between your Mac and iPhone, iPad or iPod touch over Wi-Fi ” which states:
> “Important: If you don’t see your device in the sidebar, choose Finder > Settings, then select the CDs, DVDs and iOS Devices tickbox.”
But when I go to settings, I get this crazy situation where a search shows “DVD or CD Sharing” in the search results but when I go to the actual “Sharing” settings I see tons of options and 100% no “DVD or CD Sharing” item? What’s up with that? Screenshot below.

On Amazon.com, there are numerous iPhone chargers listed, the top results of which fall into two categories:
1. Apple-branded chargers (which seem to be authentic and made by Apple) but have very poor reviews, often between 2 and 3 stars. Here's one example.
or
2. Definitely real MFi-Certified chargers from reputable companies like Belkin, AmazonBasics, and Anker. Here's one example.
Certainly it would seem like genuine Apple chargers would be safer. But there is a catch: the chargers that claim to be "by Apple" or "Original Apple OEM" all have terrible reviews (see that link from category 1) that call the chargers "unsafe" and "a fire hazard". And many of the chargers from category 2 have very positive reviews, often 4-4.5 stars.
So are the "Apple"-branded chargers really made by Apple Inc., and which type of charger is safer when one needs to purchase a lightning iPhone charger from Amazon?
Here's a screenshot of some of the "genuine" Apple charger's negative reviews:
One reviewer (pictured on the bottom right in that screenshot) even mentions that the "genuine" charger caused the dreaded

Accessory Not Supported
error on their iPhone.

A bit hard to explain without the illustration attached, but on my iPad, using iCloud or Fastmail (so its not provider-related), it doesn’t display the inbox folder alongside my other folders for the account. Somehow it does display in the shortcuts/unified folder above. Even when editing the folder list it doesn’t give me the option to display below.
On my iPhone Mail app it works correctly. I’ve tried removing and re-adding the account as well. No idea why.

I know how to trim start and trim end of a video or screen recording on the iPhone or iPad and upload to YouTube. But what if there are a few seconds in the video showing my user ID and I hope to blur it out or cut that few seconds out, is that possible inside of iPhone or iPad?
One way is, I can trim the original into two videos. So for example, if the original video is 00:00 to 03:00, and I want to remove 02:00 to 02:06, then I can trim start / end to make video 1 as 00:00 to 2:00 and video 2 as 2:06 to 03:00 and then I have removed 02:00 to 02:06, but now I have two separate videos. Can I still somehow join them or upload to YouTube as 1 video?

I've had a search around the App Store but not had much success so far.
I'm looking for a video player that can play local video files to help me review incidents looking at in-car footage downloaded from the competitors in-car systems (mostly mp4).
I need to be able to play forward and reverse, at speeds from from frame-by-frame to 2x (ideally controlled via intuitive on screen controls or a jog dial).
I suspect my answer is going to be a NLE (eg LumaFusion) but was hoping for something lighter touch

Can someone explain what triggers the downloading of music files to my iPad mini?
I have been enjoying the *Apple Music Classical* app daily, and occasionally the *Apple Music* app. I want to remember albums, performers, and composers. But I do not have enough storage to download the music.
Unfortunately, my iPad is mysteriously filling its storage with downloaded music files. I have not tried to download any of them, I just want to stream only. But the downloads just keep coming.
I have been deleting the music files individually in the Settings app > Apps > Music > Downloaded Music. But they keep on reappearing. It has become a near daily battle of deleting one file after another tediously, just to keep my iPad mini operational.
I have turned off “Automatic Downloads.”
I have been marking many things as “favorite” so that I might find them again later. But according to the manual and the AIs this should not trigger downloading.

**Here are the details:** I have a brand new 2021 10.2" iPad (9th gen) running iPad OS 15.0.2. It is to be used as a kiosk interface. Basically, it will just run a website (that looks like an app) with Guided Access turned on to prevent users from navigating away from the website.
I enter Guided Access mode with a triple-tap of the home button. To exit Guided Access, it's the same triple-tap. This will bring up the password dialog, but I cannot type anything on screen. None of the password buttons (or Cancel or delete) are responsive to taps. And since I can't exit Guided Access, the only thing I can do is hard restart the iPad... which, thankfully, brings the iPad back with Guided Access off.
I've replicated the exact setup on an older 11" iPad Pro (2018) running iPad OS 15.0.2 and was able to enter and exit Guided Access without issue. No problems typing the password.
Am I doing something wrong? Or is there a glitch with Guided Access and the 2021 iPads?
---
P.S. *Sorry about the crappy photo... as I'm in Guided Access, I can't take a screenshot!*

My iPad (3rd generation) has been working offline for over three years but it suddenly requested activation. Is there any way to avoid this in future? Would connecting it to the internet once a year help? I am concerned that it will request activation again while I am somewhere without internet access.
I have read about this happening with iPad 2 and with other Apple devices with beta versions of iOS expiring; e.g.,
https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/411514/ipad-2-activation-required-and-failed-out-of-nowhere-not-activation-lock ,
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8060598
and
https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/65851/ipad-and-ipod-touch-suddenly-require-activation
I have never had an issue like this with any MacBook or windows laptop. Do newer iPad models eventually request re-activation too?
If I wanted to keep it offline indefinitely, would setting the date back a year once every year work?

Just to clarify this is not an issue with the captive WiFi page disappearing or not being able to get to the WiFi login page, the issue is that when I click the text input field to enter the password the page crashes immediately so I am unable to enter the password.
I am at work and I can normally sign into my work WiFi on my iPad easily by typing in the password on the captive WiFi page but for some reason tonight every time I tap the text input field to type in the password the page closes/crashes.
This is on my personal iPad, but we also have work iPads and those are working, I am able to connect to the WiFi by typing in the password.
So far I have tried:
- Turning off and on my iPad
- Closing all apps
- Deleting safari history
- Switching default browser to Chrome
- Resetting the WiFi at my work
It seems like a glitch, as on my iPhone and on the work iPads the captive WiFi page doesn’t crash when I click/tap the password input field. Has anyone dealt with this problem before?

I've recently updated my ipad's IOS to 15 but after that it will charge randomly or never when connected to the power.
Yesterday I've updated it again to IOS 15.2 but **problem still exist**.
I visited many sites for this problem and one of the options was to hard restart ipad. But as you know I must hard restart my ipad every time I want to charge it!
I changed cable and cleaned the port but nothing changes. This link shows **I'm not alone** with this problem after IOS 15.
Do anyone know **permanent solution** for this problem? I'm sure that my ipad's port or cable have not any problems and the problem is from last update.
**UPDATE:**
My device’s board was burnt! After the update:) So I changed the board and the problem has been solved

Basically, I want to sync my repo on iPad with git, but I can't find the public key, so I can't clone the repo. I found three different guides, but none of them has worked out for me so far. I first tried following the instructions [here](https://www.warp.dev/terminus/git-clone-ssh) and [here](https://docs.github.com/en/authentication/connecting-to-github-with-ssh/generating-a-new-ssh-key-and-adding-it-to-the-ssh-agent) .
I generated an SSH key with
ssh-keygen -t ed25519 -C “user@example.com”
After that, I got a randomart and a message, telling me where the public key could be found. The next step, according to the guides is to double check the public key is where it's at. The first guide said to run ls ~/.ssh
and I'd see where the keys are. But I am presented with an error message. When I go ahead and run cat ~/.ssh/id_ed25519.pub
, I'm told that no file or directory can be found.
The same thing happens when I copy the entire path rather than enter the short one. The second guide said to add the key to SSH agent and to run $ eval "$(ssh-agent -s)"
> Agent pid 59566
But a-Shell tells me that the command doesn't exist. This second guide also said
> Depending on your environment, you may need to use a different command. For example, you may need to use root access by running sudo -s -H
before starting the ssh-agent
, or you may need to use exec ssh-agent bash
or exec ssh-agent zsh
to run the ssh-agent.
But neither sudo
nor exec
exist as commands.
I found a [third guide](https://bianshen00009.gitbook.io/a-guide-to-a-shell/basic-tutorials/configure-lg2-for-version-controlling) , but it also didn't tell me how to get the public key, only that I should link it with git. I tried ssh-agent
, and I'm told that I can now run ssh-add
, so I tried that, but it didn't work.
In the list of commands I got from help -l
, I saw ssh-copy-id
So I tried that and ran ssh-copy-id ~/.ssh/id_ed25519
, but that didn't work, tried it again ssh-copy-id ~/.ssh/id_ed25519.pub
. That didn't work either. I got Error: ssh: Could not resolve hostname
and nodename nor servnamer provided, or not known
.
I'm not sure what I'm missing here. I've done the same on Android and I got the repo to sync, but iOS has me stumped.
