In iPadOS 17, I seem to be stuck inside an open book. I cannot find a way to close a book. I want to return to my list of books, and the book store, etc. When I tap in the middle of the screen, I get a small notice at the top telling me my percentage through this open book. And I get a small icon in the lower right corner that when tapped offers font settings. But I cannot find a way to exit the current book.

I recently bought several ePub books from the Humble Bundle and from Smashing Magazine, hoping that I would be able to side load them into iBooks and then use iCloud to sync position, bookmarks, highlights and notes. I read that this should be possible here: http://blog.robertsalsbury.com/2012/08/15/ibooks-annotation-epub-and-icloud-syncing/ However after downloading the same files on my 2 devices (an iPad mini and an iPhone) this is not working. Nothing is getting synced! Has the feature been removed, or am I missing something? By the way I do not, nor will I ever want to, plug in my devices to my Mac. iCloud all the way for me. Edit: I am using the latest version of iOS (6.0.1) and the latest version of iBooks (3.0.2) on both devices, and am logged in to the same iCloud account. I have some purchased books in my library and they are syncing fine.

While I can edit books' author metadata in the list view, I can’t seem to be finding a way to set multiple authors for a single title. How can I get more than one author added in the metadata for an iBooks document?

I added a PDF and an ePub to my Books collection on my Mac; they was synchronized between my iPhone and iPad. I added bookmarks to the PDF on my iPad and noticed that they were synchronized with my iPhone, but not with my laptop. I added bookmarks to the ePub file on my iPad and noticed that they were synchronized between all three devices. Books on macOs opens Preview, which may be related to this issue. Is there to get Books on macOs to work the same way with PDFs as the other OS versions?

So I accidently removed iBooks from my installation. Is it possible to reinstall that app again without reinstalling Mavericks? If so, how?

I'm reading a PDF manual downloaded from the internet in Apple Books. The Bookmark icon is disabled. How can I fix this? Can I fix it directly from my iPad?

For a while now I've been importing mp3s, setting them as "Audiobook" and listening to them via iBooks, like normal. However, for some unknown reason a few weeks ago, this stopped happening: Even though they show up in "Audiobooks" on iTunes, they WILL NOT show up in iBooks anymore—they still appear in the Music app, like a regular mp3. Nothing I have tried will force it to show up in iBooks again. Edit, to clarify: The problem is that I add an MP3 audiobook to my iPhone via iTunes in the normal matter, but it shows up in "Music" and NOT "iBooks" EVEN THOUGH I set the file type as "Audiobook." iTunes—on multiple computers!—correctly shows the audiobook, but not on the phone. Furthermore, I deleted an old audiobook on the phone yet iBooks STILL shows it! This is on iOS 10.3.3, iTunes 12.7.1.14, and reconfirmed on iOS 11.2.2, iTunes 12.7.2.58.

After upgrading to Monterey from Big Sur on MacBook Pro (Intel chip), the Books app is very slow and consumes> 100% CPU. The page flips take 5-7 seconds (the spinner wheel also appears), and adding highlights is also slow. What I found is, this is related to the number of highlights I have in a book. 1. A new book flips through fine. 2. For existing books with a decent number of highlights(say ~1000), it causes the slowness. I found that the highlights will be stored in ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.iBooksX/Data/Documents/AEAnnotation After taking a backup, I deleted that folder, and all books opened and flipped through fine. My AEAnnotation folder is >100 MB. Is there a way I can solve the problem with the Books app being very slow without deleting highlights?

In Catalina it is not possible to edit audiobook metadata anymore as it was possible using iTunes in previous macOS versions. I tried a third-party tag editor (kid3 ), successfully edited the audiobook metadata, but still, when I import the audiobook into the Books app, the metadata is wrong. What could possibly be going on, is there anyway I can work around this issue?

I’m making a few assumptions here. I find that the Apple Books app is a little clumsy when it comes to managing books and collections, so I though I’d have a look at going behind its back. It appears that the books are managed in a plist file:

~/Library/Containers/com.apple.BKAgentService/Data/Documents/iBooks/Books/Books.plist

This is an XML file, so it’s easy enough to read. Using XCode, I’ve noticed the following: - The items are mostly books (I have nearly a thousand of them). - There appears to be no section for collections. I gather they’re inferred from the book details. - Books don’t all have the same information. I suppose some items exist for all of the books, but some information is missing from some books. What baffles me most is the collections. There is some information call genre which sort of matches some of the collections, but I can’t work this out. I added two collections and added a book to both, but this doesn’t appear in the plist at all, even after quitting the books app. Maybe it’s the wrong file. Does anybody have any information on managing the books data? __Edit__ Now I’m a little more confused: in the Finder the file appears as an XML file, but in the terminal it’s a binary file.

When I download a book preview, then download the full book, continuous scrolling in the Books app skips tens or hundreds of pages around the preview end page. I've seen this in most (maybe all) books I've downloaded recently. This started some time before iOS 18.4.1, likely in the last few months. A workaround is to change to "curl" page turning mode. But I'm looking for a permanent fix, because flipping 100 pages is pretty annoying when I'm used to scrolling. Deleting and re-downloading the book doesn't work. I don't want to delete the app, because I'm not sure if all my books are stored in iCloud.

I try to export highlights from a book purchased in Apple Book but when I select all my highlights, the “Share” button is still gray (so it cannot be clickable). When I try with other ePub file this method works. Can someone explain me that behaviour and a work around?

I copy and paste the content from the Apple Books to my notes from time to time. I would like to better document the reference. Now when I copy and paste the content, the critique looks like the following *"Excerpt From Your Next Five Moves Patrick Bet-David This material may be protected by copyright."* Which is -Title of the book -Author But is it possible to add the page number based on iBook and the chapter's name on the critique? Something like *"Excerpt From P. 15, Chapter 1, Your Next Five Moves, Patrick Bet-David This material may be protected by copyright."* Would greatly appreciate any help at all, thanks!

A book was sent to me for correction in .epub format. It seemed reasonable to add dozens of notes/annotations via Books. There are solutions for exporting notes separately. But, to my enormous astonishment, I can't find any way of exporting a complete file of the book (PDF, ePub, .docx, whatever...) with the corrections included to send it back to the author. This would be hours of wasted work, even though it looks like such a basic function. Thank you for your help!

In macOS, in Books.app, if I go to settings and check "download new purchases automatically" it simply unchecks itself in a matter of seconds. I've seen other people having this problem as well. I was wondering if there's any way to fix this; or if Apple knows about it. Also, basically the exact error happens in Music.app as well (Settings -> "Automatic Downloads"). The settings work just fine on iPhone.

I have a iPhone 15 Pro running iOS 18.1.1. I have 15 no-DRM eBooks I want to export from my phone, but with one problem: I can't use a cable. I also have an MacBook Pro 2019 running macOS 15.1.1. How can I get these books out of my iPhone and onto my Mac?

I've got a lot of highlighting and notes in iBooks that I've read, and would like to be able to collect them in one easy to use and manipulate format (e.g for writing papers and citing quotes). Dawson ed.,Bloomsbury,https://itun.es/us/qSrZ0.l I can see how to do this (sort of) laboriously, one note at a time, using iBook's "sharing" feature (or copy and paste, of course) but I don't see any way to do it in bulk, for all of my notes from a book, or even all my books. Is there a way to accomplish this, with an Apple Script or using Automator for example? Or perhaps there is a text or XML file containing my notes and highlighting that I could write a script (in Python, preferably) to parse.

I accidentally deleted the iPad Books app and everything in it was deleted. Is there a way I can restore it?

There is a folder visible in Finder which has all of my books which were manually added (not from the store). Moving books into this folder gets them on to my Books app on the iPad and the Mac. The location is ~/Library/Mobile Documents/iCloud~com~apple~iBooks/Documents. I can use the above address using the Finder (⇧⌘G) but the path bar says that the location is iCloud Drive › Books. There is no way that I can find to navigate to this folder other than using ⇧⌘G. What puzzles me is when I try to access the folder from the shell, it says No such file or directory. I’m using an Intel iMac macOS 12.6 Monterey. Can anybody explain how this works, and whether this is the only folder with this spooky behaviour?
