Whenever I'm logged in as a certain user and trigger a shutdown or restart, I get prompted to enable FileVault. - I have searched everywhere to find the hook that causes this prompt, but I can't find it. - I've searched all the LaunchDaemon and LaunchAgent directories I can find. - I've reviewed the output of launchctl find. - I've done other things in the past as well but I don't remember them all. - I have upgraded my computer and transferred my user account multiple times since this started happening. It seems to stick to my user account. - I believe this might have come from Symantec Endpoint Encryption that was installed by my employer many years ago. But I've also tried all the uninstaller techniques I can find for that. It appears after all the desktop stuff has gone away. Any ideas for where else I can look for a hook that might trigger this? Update: **FileVault** is not currently enabled on the disk and I do not want to enable it. ![Screenshot of the FileVault dialog box saying 'To add this user to FileVault, enter the password for 'cquenell.'' ][1]

14-inch 2021 Macbook Pro (Ventura 13.7.5) has crashed 5 times, displaying the same message
https://pastecode.io/s/neveuq5n See link above for the message. This has never been an issue in the past several years I've used this Macbook. I'm wondering what could have changed. I don't understand the error message and would appreciate some expertise.

**Problem:** Recently, after putting my M1 Macbook Pro to sleep (both via pressing sleep or just closing lid), whenever I wake it up after a minute or longer, instead of returning back to the screen before putting it to sleep, it just restarts (with the apple logo, sound and progress bar, then login). There is no error message after it restarts, and this happens regardless of whether laptop is charging or on battery. This is annoying because I have to reopen all my files etc. **MacOS version:** This happened both on my current version (Sequoia 15.5) and previous version (Ventura 13.2) - so I don't think this is a problem with the OS. I upgraded my OS recently to see whether it would fix the problem - it didn't. **Timing:** I don't use my macbook that much nowadays, so I can't remember when exactly it started. Maybe a few weeks ago. I think the timing might have coincided with something weird happening with my iCloud - for some reason it asked me to log in in order to use iCloud a few weeks ago, even though I've never logged out. This has never happened before. Not sure if iCloud has anything to do with it. Also after the MacOS update from Ventura to Sequoia, icons started appearing next to my files on desktop (Cloud icons, and after I downloaded them, the lower arrow icon). Otherwise, I haven't downloaded any new software recently so I don't think it's a new software download problem. **What I've already tried (but problem still persists):** - **Rebooting in safe mode:** I rebooted in Safe Mode, put the laptop to sleep and closed the lid. When I wake it after 2 minutes, the laptop restarted not in safe mode. - **Reinstalling MacOS:** Reinstalled Sequoia, problem persists. - **Switching to guest account:** Problem persists on guest account. - **Disconnecting all external devices (monitor, wireless keyboard and wireless mouse):** Problem still persisted. I've tried Googling but don't seem to find any much on this problem. I see people talking about pmset, so here's my most recent output FYI. Previously, it showed sleep prevented by cloudd like 10 times (i.e., cloudd, cloudd, cloudd...), in addition to a few other things, which was why I thought it might have something to do with iCloud. But the most recent output after restarting the computer didn't have it. **pmset -g output:**
System-wide power settings:
Currently in use:
 standby 1
 Sleep On Power Button 1
 hibernatefile /var/vm/sleepimage
 powernap 1
 networkoversleep 0
 disksleep 10
sleep 0 (sleep prevented by sharingd, bluetoothd, powerd)
 hibernatemode 3
 ttyskeepawake 1
 displaysleep 0
 tcpkeepalive 1
 lowpowermode 0
 womp 1
Would really appreciate any support on this. Thanks!

Sometimes my computer will crash and restart due to unknown errors. It usually happens when I'm working on something so a few apps are open. OS X has this annoying feature where it tries to reopen all apps when you restart. You can disable it when manually restarting, but it still does it if the computer restarts after a crash. I think this feature was built to save time, but all it does is waste more time than it's worth, because whenever the computer restarts from a crash I usually just restart it once more (this time with "Reopen apps" disabled) just to get to a workable state. The problem is it'll keep spawning apps and preventing the restart from happening. Disabling this feature would prevent me having to restart after a crash altogether. Is there a way to stop OS X from doing this?

I am running Catalina on my MacBook Pro mid 2014 retina. From few days I am having strange issue with my Sketch app. I can’t increase/decrease input values from arrows key. When I select any input field and press arrow up it suppose to be increase the value and on press arrow it suppose to be decrease the value. Even input spinner not working on click. It only works when I type numbers and hit enter. I checked my other apps Photoshop, Illustrator, Invision Studio all apps are working fine. The issue is only happening with Sketch app. I tried to install fresh copy (updated version). I tried to uninstall Sketch app with app cleaner. I restore defaults keyboard shortcuts. I restore defaults Accessibility settings but no success. For the reference I attached image what i want to get back. enter image description here

I use multiple user accounts on my Mac (For security purposes, make sensitive/private information physically inaccessible in certain contexts). If I start and shutdown the computer in a normal single-user flow, everything works fine. But if I am logged in with both user accounts at the same time, i.e. I switch account without logging out first, then I am unable to log out from any account. I can switch fine between each logged in account; but logging out, and therefore also shutdown/restart doesn't work. The screen goes black, and the computer just hangs. No keyboard or mouse interaction have any observable effect. I am left with a forced shutdown by holding the power button. I have not yet tried making an SSH connection from a third computer; which I guess could help identify the cause of the problem; but I don't know what to look for either. I assume that it's some deadlock in a program that is running once for each user account, but how do I determine which?

After a quick Google this turned out to be the restrictions. When I try to disable this I get asked for a pass code. Very annoying, as I don't know this pass code. A solution to this seems to be to factory reset the Apple TV, but that too is greyed out. Does anyone know a way to work around this? As I basically just want to factory reset my Apple TV and start over.

I've had this issue intermittently over the last ~month or two where I'll be doing something on Chrome on my laptop and it will suddenly restart; usually the screen freezes, the audio repeats its last beat a handful of times, and then it goes through the rebooting process. The only known issue is that I have way too many Chrome tabs, but I also use a plugin to keep them from using too much memory (The Great Suspender). Does anyone know what is causing this and what I can do to stop it from happening going forward? The main concern is that it might reboot while I'm in the middle of an important video call (which thankfully hasn't happened yet). If it would be of assistance and if it doesn't contain any identifying information, I could post the problem report (the message is all Greek to me and very long so I don't know if it's okay to post or not).

My password won't work. I am dyslexic. I have a Macbook Retina 12". It has a broken 'top case' which means different combinations of modifier keys are regularly enabled, namley the shift key. I have adopted workarounds and software utilities to use it for the past few years. (i.e. I usually hold down the Option key to bypass safe mode login at startup) Filevault is not enabled. I have double checked this using diskutil apfs list Currently my login password is not recognised. This may be because of capitalisation, but I have tried external keyboards and lots of messing around, and have decided to reset the password after weeks of trying things. I can boot into internet recovery mode only. (local recovery mode is inaccessible to me because of keys stuck on) In internet recovery mode, in Terminal, I run RESETPASSWORD (caps seems to be accepted in terminal) and the password reset tool opens. I can see 7 (seven) volumes, and when I select all/any of them, and press 'next' the message: 'There are no users on this volume to reset password for' is displayed. Any help appriciated with next steps! I am unable to run disk repair also. The volumes are: VM, Preboot, transfere (spelled incorrectly), Recovery, Update, Update, bedo - Data,

My Mac just "restarted" while I was looking away and I'd like to know if it was a crash or a postponed restart due to an update. My Mac does sometimes crash and restart but hasn't done so for a couple of months. I installed some OS updates in the past couple of days but chose not to restart yet. Google Chrome was getting slow and had been displaying the green update arrow for a day or two. I clicked on the update button and wandered off to do something before it responded in any way. When I turned back to the computer it seemed to be "restarting". I'm using the scare quotes because I don't think it was rebooting from scratch since I didn't see the Apple logo with progress bar, which can be a little slow on my system. I verified that it had restarted by switching to the Terminal app which showed the Restored text with a timestamp from about a minute ago. When I check when the last *reboot* was using uptime or System Information it tells me 32 days. The App Store is telling me that I still need to restart to complete updates. ---- So how can I check why it just "restarted"? I want to know if my crashing problem came back after such a long time of stability, if asking Chrome to update somehow allowed the other pending upgrades to restart the OS, or if it was some other reason.

I want it to be like it just left the factory, at least in the software side. Like SMC and NVRAM reset etc. Or deleting the disk resets the things that I mentioned? If not, when should I reset them? After deleting the disk and before installing the High Sierra (I will downgrade from Mojave to High Sierra) or after installing the High Sierra? And are there any other things that can be reset like SMC and NVRAM? If there are, please mention them.

After I accidentally clicked on **Guided Access**, my iPhone became unusable. I tried to shut my iPhone down but it won't do anything after I slide the bar to turn it off. I have an iPhone 11 and just updated to iOS 16. Apparently, I enabled **Guided Access** at some point with 3 clicks on the side button (or maybe it was there already?) because I don't even know what that is. Yesterday, I added in **Accessibility**, the task to change the screen's brightness with 3 clicks of the side button. When I did 3 clicks, it asked which one I wanted: **Guided Access** or change brightness. The second one worked fine but I did it again with **Guided Access** to see what it does and now I just can’t do anything with my iPhone, not even restart it.

I have a typical dac audio interface attached to my Mac for sound **OUTPUT**. (Just TBC, I don't use it for input, only output.) This is a MBP 16" 2019, hence with **four Thunderbolt3 (USB-C) ports**. I happen to have an AWC 1->3 Thunderbolt4 hub (in fact I tried the Arturia both on the hub and directly on one of the four laptop ports, no diff) It's a Arturia 2 (but really they're all the same). I connect the Arturia to the laptop obviously with a **USBC-USBC cable**. The Arturia is **bus powered**. It is "USB-C interface compatible with PC and Mac, fully USB 2.0 compatible". (You can get actual thunderbolt dacs but they are still $expensive.) You simply set System Settings -> "Sound" output to the interface, see image, and, it works perfectly. HOWEVER **on restart - the setting is lost and it reverts** to one of the standards such as headphone out or laptop speakers. Also as a curiosity: "sound effects through ..." is endlessly set to "headphones", even though, I would never use that (I'd just use "laptop speakers" if not using an audio interface). I did try removing everything here /Library/Preferences/Audio and restarting a few times, but no difference. The Arturia (like most dacs) is completely plug and play. You can install some software they provide (it does the typical thing of letting you toggle the leds etc) but it does not affect in any way the actual "connection" of the device; in all events I tried things a few times both with and without the supplied software, no difference. Note that on a Mac annoyingly you can seemingly set the audio output device on EITHER (or BOTH?!) SystemSettings#"Sound" AND/OR "AudioMIDISetup". I have tried all combos of doing one or the other or both; doesn't seem to affect the problem I'm having. The chosen output is lost after a mac restart. Any ideas, TY enter image description here enter image description here

After working with a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse set for some time, my iPad will often drop the fingerprint feature. That does not stop me from working with it since I can enter the password instead. Meaning: that even if I just want to wake up the iPad again, I have to enter the password. I can switch this off in the iTouch settings for the little while I am working with it until I restart my iPad (and mind to switch the iTouch on again, of course). But some things can only be done with the fingerprint. For example, I would like to enter my iCloud website with a password that I do not know by heart. And enter the password menu, I need to put my fingerprint on the home button to get there with no way to just enter the password menu with the Apple ID password. I have already: - Switched off Bluetooth - Looked around in **Settings** > **Touch ID & Code**: - Deactivated the Touch Code and activated it again - Tried to add another fingerprint = Touch ID next to the one that is already there. But for that, I need the fingerprint feature on the home button to work at all. And that does not work, else I would not write this question here :). - Tried to open **Settings** > **Passwords**, but that needs the fingerprint as well. Of course, the feature is back after a restart, but I want to know how to fix this on the run since it happens too often when the Bluetooth set is paired with the iPad. How to get the fingerprint feature of the home button back without restarting the iPad?

I have an iPhone 6s that I want to reset since we don't know the passcode. I'm using Windows 10, but I can get access to a Mac if that would help. The iPhone connects successfully to the iTunes version linked in this reset article , but it immediately tells me to update to the latest iTunes if I want to update or restore the phone. However, the newest version of iTunes downloaded from the Microsoft Store doesn't connect to this phone at all, and a message pops up that the USB device isn't recognized. I don't get the Erase iPhone shown on Tom's guide here, so the phone must have a slightly older iOS installed. I've found paid software online that alleged unlocks iPhones but I'm not sure if they're reliable, malware, etc. I have the .ipsw file that I can use to restore the phone but not sure what I can do with it. Any thoughts on how to resolve this situation?

fixed with this support link : https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT201412 ************ Kind of a *weird* annoying problem. I just updated to ios 17. Update completed normally, I went in and there's a modal prompt with an OK button on top of everything. I cannot accept the (in french) "Mise à jour logicielle" prompt. I cannot swipe to unlock the phone. I cannot use the side buttons as instructed by : https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/iph8903c3ee6/17.0/ios/17.0 The reboot/restart slider is behind the modal prompt; I can "click" the OK button, but nothing happens. Nothing happens when I connect to my Mac or my PC with iTunes open. I tried the ReiBoot app on my mac and I cant even reset my phone (because I can't shut down the phone). Any suggestions before I go down to the apple store ?
