I understand that Apple automatically updates the firmware for AirPods while charging when connected to an iPhone. I have some AirPods used only with Apple TV. Will those get updated as well? Or should I occasionally connect the AirPods to my iPhone (and leave charging)? Apple published the page [*About firmware updates for AirPods*](https://support.apple.com/en-us/106340) . That page lists current firmware version numbers. As for updating, it says: > Firmware updates are delivered automatically while your AirPods are charging and in Bluetooth range of your iPhone, iPad, or Mac that's connected to Wi-Fi. That document omits any mention of Apple TV. So I would conclude that Apple TV does not update firmware, but I thought I would ask for confirmation here.

Is it possible to mirror 2.5K or 5K iMac display to 1080p TV through Apple TV without swithcing iMac's resolution?

I have a 27" iMac with 2.5K built-in display resolution. Also i may replace it with a 5K/retina one. The problem is mirroring it's display without changing my mac's resolution other than it's native resolution. When I use a Thunderbolt to HDMI converter and an HDMI cable, my mac forces me to use lowest resolution between itself and my tv (1920x1080/2K). So it prefers the tv's resolution and my mac switches it's built-in display resolution to 2K and this is not what I want. So, I think about Apple TV and AirPlay mirroring. My question is: **Is it possible to mirror my mac's high resolution built-in display to a low resolution (2K) tv through Apple TV without changing the mac's resolution?** If it's possible, naturally higher resolution image will be scaled down/transcoded to a lower resolution image. Texts and details on original image will be corrupted/blurred but it's ok, I don't expect/need a super clear image on the tv. So, will Apple TV do the job, can it transcode original high resolution image to fullscreen 2K image for my tv?

**Equipment:** * Apple TV 4K with remote. * 43" inch computer monitor LG 43UD79-B 4K with built-in speakers, has its own remote. **Connection:** HDMI, from Apple TV to monitor **Problem** When I first connected the Apple TV to this monitor I was able to control the volume on the monitor using the Apple Remote. Handy, one remote for everything! After a couple of days and for no discernible reason that functionality disappeared. What did work was the monitor's remote for the volume. But that means using two remotes. I fiddled with the "Volume Control" settings in tvOS to no avail. I then power-cycled the Apple TV, fiddled with the settings again and the functionality re-appeared. Then a while later, the functionality disappeared again. I'd rather not do this whole powercycle + fiddle with settings dance every other day. Does anybody have an idea what could be causing this and how to fix it?

How to kill an unresponsive app on Apple TV with a TV remote
I'd like to kill an unresponsive app with a universal TV remote (Sony RMT-TX300E). For now I've resorted to iPhone as the auxiliary remote. With Siri Remote killing an app is a swipe up from the App Switcher.

However, I cannot seem to get this to work. The first library shares just fine, and I can access it just fine from my phone/TV, but when I restart iTunes and select the second library, I cannot access it. I have tried restarting everything, disabling and re enabling sharing, tried with and without a password, and nothing I do seems to make it work. Yet the second I restart iTunes with my Apple Music library, it shows up under home sharing almost immediately.

Family uses a 4th gen Apple TV at home. (The device, not the streaming service that was stupidly given the same name.) I make movie/TV show purchases through the Apple TV using our family Apple ID. I also log in to the iTunes app on my iPhone to check that ID's account balance before making a purchase through the Apple TV hardware - at least I used to when I still could. I periodically add to this balance using gift cards. Despite refusing to enable the 2FA feature for years, somehow it got activated for the account. And it got linked to my spouse's phone number. Apple is really persistent about trying to lock users into this horrible feature, and employs dark patterns in its device interfaces to trick users into enabling it, which is probably what happened to me at some point. So now I cannot even manage the family Apple ID I have been managing for years. I tried to change the 2FA phone number to my own once, but it did not work (due to reasons I can't recall). And even if it's possible to change the phone number, I don't want 2FA at all unless it can accept *either* of our phone numbers for verification. I can't purchase any content or even check the account balance unless my spouse is also beside me, so I can borrow the (incorrectly linked) iPhone. This is incredibly disempowering and frustrating, and has already prevented me from making purchases on several occasions. (I miss the days of DVDs.) Is there a way to either: - Make both phone numbers work for 2FA verification - Disable 2FA for this Apple ID altogether (Note that any proposed solutions should work for both Apple TV purchases and iTunes app login.)

After a quick Google this turned out to be the restrictions. When I try to disable this I get asked for a pass code. Very annoying, as I don't know this pass code. A solution to this seems to be to factory reset the Apple TV, but that too is greyed out. Does anyone know a way to work around this? As I basically just want to factory reset my Apple TV and start over.

The LG Magic Remote is a strange beast, because by default, the signals it sends to LG TVs tend not to be picked up by other IR controls (I don't know if that means it's communicating some other way, or whether the IR frequency it uses is really unusual). As a result, the Apple TV's "Learn Remote" functionality does not work straight away when operating the LG Magic Remote. Nevertheless, there is a feature of the LG TV to configure its remote to serve as the universal remote of various inputs (i.e. select DVD player on HDMI 2, pick a make, verify it works, and then the remote will start sending IR signals whenever HDMI 2 is active). The Apple TV is officially _not supported_ by LG (per their phone support) and Apple does appear as a valid make when selecting a remote type. So I figured [based](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwiKvKf_rubTAhXj24MKHX7UDusQFggmMAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fdiscussions.apple.com%2Fthread%2F7358351%3Fstart%3D0&usg=AFQjCNFyxccDb7Z4smWzO4cI9pnPBeOitg) on [googling](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=3&ved=0ahUKEwiKvKf_rubTAhXj24MKHX7UDusQFggzMAI&url=https%3A%2F%2Fforums.macrumors.com%2Fthreads%2Fhelp-apple-tv-with-lg-magic-memote-smart-tv.1641673%2F&usg=AFQjCNE4a-T3MNjO-OU3eerIf0p98biLMg) , that if I picked any nonsense DVD player, the remote would at least start sending IR signals that could be learned using the Apple TV "Learn Remote" feature. Those linked threads report success, but in fact their advice of "rapidly mash buttons" for the Apple TV to learn the IR signal didn't work in my case, and I suspect it's a function of the newest 2017 version of the remote (I'm testing on an LG OLED65C7P). I've tried a dozen different "set top box" and "dvd/blu ray" device types, and in each case the IR signal for the arrow buttons is not strong enough for the Apple TV to register them at all. Any ideas on how to overcome this?

We just got the Apple TV 4K and are having a weird problem. When Apple TV is plugged in and setup and we turn on our TV (Samsung), our internet completely crashes. After about 4-5 minutes everything reconnects and once it reconnects, everything that was connected to wifi works perfectly (including the Apple TV). I thought it was the Apple TV but we bought another one and are having the same issue. What's weird is that we used to have a Roku stick and didn't have any issues - it's only with the Apple TV. Internet also only drops when we turn on the TV (which boots up Apple TV) but not during any other time. I have the Apple TV right next to my Verizon Fios router and again, haven't had any issues prior to using Apple TV. I've tried looking at my router settings and have upgraded firmware but can't figure it out. Has anyone else ever had this problem? Thanks, Jeff

My friend complains that her Apple TV 4K only supports two Bluetooth commercials at a time. She is trying to use more as part of using a bicycle training app with multiple pieces of apparatus. Two seems like a low number to me given that Apple TV 4K is akin to a full-fledged computer like iPad and iPhone. The specs on Apple web site says the Apple TV 4K uses Bluetooth 5.0 wireless technology. Is there a known limit on the number of Bluetooth devices that can communicate at the same time with Apple TV 4K? I suppose the remote control would take one connection.

I have heard that people have issues with older devices like that. But I also read that this issue only happens on streaming apps, and I only need it for showing the screen, pictures/videos from the gallery and some videos from Safari. Will it still work on IOS 16-18? Or do I have to opt for the newer version? Thanks.

I have old and unsupported Apple TV gen 2 and 3 devices hooked up to 2 of my TVs. I know they are old but they still work fine for my purposes. Connected using Wifi directly to my main router, I am able to access my media collection hosted on my Mac, using Apple Home Sharing, from both Apple TVs just fine. I recently wanted to reduce the Wifi footprint in my home, so I got 2 Wifi repeaters and placed them in the 2 rooms with the TVs. I hooked up each TV, game consoles and the Apple TVs to each repeater using ethernet cables. Everything works great. The game consoles connect online and have no problems in multiplayer games. The TV can access the network and everything appears to work there. Both Apple TVs allow me to connect to iTunes to rent movies or purchase or listen to music, however when I try to access the Computers tile on the main menu, which uses Apple Home Sharing, nothing appears. I get an error message saying that there is no shared library. If I unplug the ethernet cable and it reconnects to wifi, suddenly the media library shows up just fine. The repeaters have a 4 port switch built in and are setup in bridge mode with the gateway set to the main router (192.168.1.1). All security options and service options (upnp, etc) are turned off on the repeaters. IPv6 is turned off on the main router and all of the repeaters. I know I can simply just keep the Apple TVs in wifi mode and be just fine... However, I want to know what is going on here. Why doesn't Apple Home Sharing work with an ethernet connection? I don't have any of the Apple TV 4k models to test, so I'm not even sure is this issue is limited to the gen 2 and 3 or not. Is there anyone that can shed light on what is going on or how to fix it? Thanks. **Edit** I confirmed that it is not the ethernet connection, but the repeaters causing the issue. I connected the Apple TVs directly to my main router with ethernet and home sharing works fine. So, some network configuration is blocking the home sharing from working using repeaters. I can't imagine what. **Edit 2** I added an Archer C7 v2 running dd-wrt in wifi repeater mode. Exact same issue. I also tried an Archer C7 v5 with stock firmware as the main access point with the same result. I tried a Archer C7 v2 with dd-wrt as the main access point and I have the exact same issue with it. Below is my configuration for the dd-wrt repeater. Everything not shown is either turned off (dnsmasq, spi firewall, upnp, port forwarding, etc) or default. Both are using WPA2 AES with the same key. I'm using the 5GHz radios for repeater communication and the 2.4Ghz for connected devices. **dd-wrt repeater** **Setup** Basic Setup Advanced Routing **Wireless** enter image description here **dd-wrt main router** **Setup** enter image description here **Wireless** enter image description here

In this article they embed media from Reddit, whose image shows a screenshot of the ability to disable Automatic Selection and choose a single Hub to prefer as the network head: screenshot of the iOS Home app's As of just before writing this question I updated my last AppleTV to tvOS 18. It came back from "Not Available" status to "Standby", but my "Home Hubs & Bridges" section appears unchanged without the new options. I do have some third party accessory bridges, but all of my Apple-brand devices should now be fully up to date on iOS 18. Yet, there is no change to my "Home Hubs & Bridges" screen: screenshot of I've checked settings everywhere in the Home app as well and I do not believe there is any other section this is relevant. Is there something else I have to do to enable the option to disable automatic Hub selection and choose a Preferred Home Hub?
