I just got a new M4 MacBook and it's a powerhouse, and if I plug it into the beautiful 5K 27" iMac 2020 via thunderbolt, the screen mirroring is almost latency free. Very close to the old Target Display Mode experience. Also awesome is Universal Control allowing me to just swipe my pointer across to the MacBook and control it with my iMac's Magic Mouse and keyboard. When you do this though it becomes immediately obvious that the ultimate setup is controlling the MacBook with the iMac mouse and keyboard AND using it as a display. But these options are mutually exclusive. One disables the other. Is there any way or workaround? Or would this just be way too awesome to be allowed, being that it deters people from having to buy 5K Apple Cinema Display? I know I can use Screen Sharing, but VNC protocol is old and no where near the quality and low latency experience as Air Play. Not to mention, there's no sound.

I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro with macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 installed. I have just found out that my Smart LG TV with webOS has AirPlay incorporated so, I would like to mirror my MacBook Pro screen on my TV. However I can't find AirPlay on my MacBook. Already searched for some solutions on Google but the only option that I found was to go to Screen Settings on System Preferences and turn on "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" which it is. However the AirPlay icon doesn't appear in the Menu Bar. Does anyone know how to solve this? Is my MacBook too old to support AirPlay?

I have an M1 Mac Mini running macOS 14.4.1 that is partially headless. It's always connected to a headless HDMI dummy plug, and occasionally I connected a portable Thunderbolt screen to it. I always leave the dummy plug connected so that, when screen sharing, I can change the resolution to whatever I want. When logged in, I have the screens set to mirror so that the display associated with the dummy plug doesn't get its own desktop that I can't see. However, ever since I upgraded from macOS 13 to 14, now on the login screen the screens are not mirrored, and the dummy plug is considered the primary screen. Consequently, I cannot see anything with the portable screen connected making it very difficult to log in! I can't find any way to control the display arrangement on the login screen. It doesn't use any of the arrangements configured for any of my user accounts. How can I change it so that it uses display mirroring?

Is there a built-in way to mirror to multiple monitors with different resolutions on macOS, or is there third-party software that can help with this?

My MacBook only sees 1 monitor; both monitors show the exact same screen (so they mirror). I've read online that typically this is caused by your dock. But I have no clue which dock to use if that's the case since my current dock: Club-3D USB Type C 3.2 Gen1 Triple Display Dynamic PD Charging Dock. It works fine with a Windows laptop, connecting both screens and extending them. I'm hoping since the exact same setup **does** work on Windows that there's a software fix. If not, I'm curious to find out which dock to use that **does** also supports Mac.

Keeping MacBook's built-in monitor turned on when lid closed and external monitor also connected?

I want to **keep the built-in monitor "connected"** (so listed in the Display settings in System Settings), AND to **close the MacBook's lid**, while **not changing to Sleep Mode** (in both battery and power-adapter connected setups), and also better to keep the actual pixels/view blacked (in order not to lose battery) - whether by changing brightness or to "close" the view but still keep "opened" the physical display. This way, I want to **ensure the built-in display is still the "Main Display"**, and that any other connected display is whether Extending or Mirroring it. So, to be somehow clearer: 1. **CLOSING DISPLAY VS CLOSING IT'S GENERATED DESKTOP** - More theoretically, does MacOS distinct between fully-closed monitor (to say, a monitor that is both not listed in Display settings and no HDMI/DVI/VGA pixels generated to it, maybe considered as "ejected" (if it were a disk), and of course nothing is shown to human eyes), and a semi-closed monitor (monitor that is listed in Display settings, but still physically closed, not only due to low brightness but due to some kind of "Turn off display" button that keep the pixels/Spaces/desktops as they were before). If MacOS distinct the two - how can I choose one of the two for some specific connected monitor as well as the built-in one? 2. **KEEP BUILT-IN DISPLAY'S DESKTOP OPEN WHILE LID IS CLOSED** - Is it possible to "semi-close" the built-in monitor, keep it's desktop opened (and, for example, available for mirroring from other connected monitors), but close the MacBook's lid? If so, how to do it? If not, is it possible with zero-brightness as a workaround? Currently when I close the lid, it turns-off the display AND it's desktop anyways

When using AirPlay to my Apple TV (AirPlaying the Macbook screen), I used to be able to keep using my secondary monitor as if nothing was happening. However, since I changed my secondary screen, turning on AirPlay automatically turns on this secondary screen into mirroring mode (with a terrible stretch due to the aspect ratio differences). Any idea how to fix that?

How can I mirror the stereo audio output on output channels 1 & 2 to channels 3 & 4 on my 4-channel sound interface (Focusrite Scarlett 2i4) using free software without adding more cables? Currently I am successfully mapping channel 1 to 3 and channel 2 to 4 with the trial version of Rogue Amoeba Loopback, but the trial version only lasts 20 minutes. I have tried to do this with "Audio MIDI Setup" but it is not supported. Bear in mind this is on a 2012 Macbook Air locked to macOS 10.9, so it cannot be upgraded (ever).

For over a year I have been using a Macbook Pro (M1 2020) with two identical Dell P2419H monitors and a J5Create JCD543 docking station. Yesterday the HDMI port in the J5Create docking station failed and their support folks couldn't fix it. So I replaced it with a Belkin USB-C 11-in-1 multiport dock. My problem is that now the two Dell monitors work, but they're mirroring each other (displaying identical screens). One has a HDMI cable and one has a DP cable, and they're both plugged into the Belkin dock. When I go to **System Preferences** and **Displays** to fix the mirroring, it doesn't "know" I have two displays. Instead, it only shows one of the Dell monitors. Pressing the Alt button in **Displays** to go from **Night Shift** to **Detect Monitors** doesn't work. Nothing happens. Neither does the usual round of unplugging/plugging in the monitors and restarting. I also checked Privacy and Security to make sure that **Allow Accessories to Connect** is set on **Always**. I have the Belkin docking station plugged into one of the Macbook's USB C ports and the power cord plugged into the other. I suspect I may need to downgrade from Ventura 13.2.1 as others have reported similar problems, but I haven't found anyone with my EXACT problem. (If you're wondering why I chose the monitor/Macbook combination, I didn't; they were company issued.)

Since I updated my Mac (I'm using a Mac Mini M1, macOS Big Sur 11.2.3), it has a strange behavior now. I have 2 screens. There is a mirror-like effect but not completely mirrored on both. I have the same amount of Desktops on both screens. If I had a new Desktop on one, it will had a new Desktop on the other as well. When I switch to an other Desktop, say I go to the 3rd desktop in one screen, it will switch to the 3rd desktop on the other screen as well. And last weird behavior: when I switch to full mode on youtube on one screen, the other screen switch to a full mode but with a black screen. However, I'm saying it's not completely mirrored because the 2 sceens are still different. I can have different activities on both screen besides the behaviors mentioned. Am I the only one who got this ?
