I have an Automator script (app) that simply does few clicks in an app. This script is launched via a calendar event. The script is scheduled and run from a different admin account than the account that is "physically" opened on the computer screen.
Here is how it goes : when I test the script while connected with Screen Sharing, the script run just fine. But if I leave the Screen Sharing app (the user session should still be running in background), the script return an error when launched by the calendar event **"Watch me do error : (OSStatus error -50)"**. If I do the same, but I schedule the script from the other admin account (the one "physically" opened on the computer screen), it runs fine.
I already set the permissions in Privacy settings to the script.
It seems to be a problem of Automator script execution when runned on a "not on the screen" user account.

So I am very confused about the "Screen Sharing" feature on macOS (Ventura or Sonoma).
I can use the Apple built-in Screen Share App on my MacBook where it is possible to enter the Apple ID of someone else.
Does this only work in the same network or does it work no matter where the other person is located as long as I know the Apple ID (no port forwarding, etc.) that can be entered there in the text field within the app?
If I am not wrong when using the IP address instead of Apple ID it only works within the same network or if the other device on another network has port forwarding on its router there.
Was a bit worried that someone knowing my Apple ID could relatively easily connect from anywhere in the world to my MacBook by just opening the app and entering the Apple ID.

I am attempting to connect to a MacBook Pro from a Mac Pro with a 2560x1600 monitor using the built in screen sharing client. I would like to be able have the connection fill the entire screen, but currently the best I can do is set the MacbookPro's resolution to 1680x1050 which fills about 2/3 of the 2560x1600 monitor.
Since the built in client is really a vnc server, I would like to be able to set the 'served' resolution to 2560x1600 instead of the native resolution of the MacBook Pro. On a linux server this would be as simple as
$vncserver -geometry 2560x1600
and then connecting to the created server. Is there a way to get the native mac vnc client to do this?
For what it is worth, I found the location of the client (on Sierra):
/System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/AppleVNCServer.bundle/Contents/MacOS/AppleVNCServer
but can't figure out what arguments it might take (if any)
This post seemed to use ARDAgent
to activate and configure the VNC server but did not mention anything about setting the resolution for the server.

I'm pretty sure I've enabled all the permissions when connecting my iPhone via USB-C cable that is capable of transmitting data, not a dumb cable.

I just want to take a screenshot from an app that prevents me from taking screenshots, I thought that connecting to Mac is the simplest, I may just use another camera and then enhance in Photoshop.

I have a Ultrawide monitor (21:9 aspect ratio 3440x1440px) and my colleagues find it annoying that when I share my screen on Zoom, Slack, Google Meet etc. it will get zoomed out so the wide aspect ratio will fit on their regular 16:9 monitors. In addition to that I often find that I like to keep something like a meeting agenda on the same screen without necessarily having it visible to meeting participants.
Does anyone know of a piece of software for Mac OS that will allow me to assign a portion of my screen (i.e. the 16:9 bit, so the first 2560px in width and all 1440px in height) and let me expose that to screen sharing apps as an additional "virtual monitor". With Quicktime screen recording you can select a portion of the screen to record. I'm looking for something similar that will allow me to pipe that portion of the screen into screen sharing applications.
Any ideas?

Is there a way to connect to a remote Mac in such a way that the remote remains apparently locked, so that my remote session is "virtual" ?
I think Remote Desktop has this ability (it's called "Curtain", see https://support.apple.com/guide/remote-desktop/control-or-observe-one-client-computer-apd2450a787/mac) . Does Screen Sharing app have something similar?

Not sure what happened but a little while after upgrading to Ventura my mini "server" in the closet became super laggy over Screen Sharing. The screen will open up for input (mouse or keyboard) for 3-4 seconds every 10 seconds. It's like something is taking over and blocks all input. Tried to monitor Activity Monitor for something that's hogging resources but nothing jumps out. It's a simple media server with plex and not much else running.
Mostly hoping someone has encountered this otherwise I'll have to actually put in the work to remove it from its cozy spot in the closet and set it up with a kb and monitor. Not possible to remote in and boot into safe mode.
It appears the issue might be isolated to screensharing updating—when I perform an action that takes time and ends in an alert sound, the sound occurs and the screen draw is delayed and eventually catches up, but only momentarily.

I use the Screen Sharing utility to see the desktop of some headless machines (from a URL like ‘vnc://username@servername’).
In macOS 15 Sequoia (unlike macOS 12 Monterey), Screen Sharing always starts with the toolbar showing. This is annoying, as the toolbar takes vertical space, slightly squashing the window contents. (You can of course click on the ‘View’ menu, click on ‘Hide Toolbar’, and then double-click the titlebar to zoom the window and reclaim the space — but that's tedious to do every time you open a new window.)
Is there any way to configure it to hide the toolbar initially?
I haven't found anything relevant on the web, or in the Screen Sharing or system settings. I don't want to run it in full-screen mode — even though that gives the maximum possible screen space — as I often want to refer to other windows at the same time. I've tried removing every button &c from the toolbar, but it takes the full height even when empty.
---
(It may be a coincidence, but the ability to hide the toolbar seems to have reduced over time. Early versions of Mac OS X showed a rounded ‘lozenge’ at the right-hand end of the titlebar which would show and hide the toolbar; later on, the toolbar's context menu had a ‘Hide Toolbar’ option underneath those for choosing Icon and/or Text — see [this question](https://apple.stackexchange.com/q/30950/291214) . Now the top-level menu option seems to be the only way, and it doesn't even have a default keyboard shortcut.)

On macOS Sonoma, screen sharing has a new "High Performance" option. However, whenever I try to turn it on, I just get a black screen. Both the server and the client are running the latest beta (23A5301g) of Sonoma.
- The same also happens when the server is a VM running under UTM on the client machine, so that network speed is infinite for all practical purposes.
- The exact same setup works fine when changing the screen sharing type back to "Standard".
I’m not aware of any client or OS settings to adjust, so I'm a bit baffled how I might solve this.
Does anyone have an idea what is needed to make high performance screen sharing on macOS Sonoma work?
In all cases where I've encountered this behaviour, the connection was not "standard": either I was using a VPN or I was connecting to a VM. This appears to be a bug and is still not fixed in the initial release version of macOS Sonoma. I did report it to Apple, but they closed it with "unable to diagnose with current information"...
Sonoma is now out of beta, but this bug hasn't been fixed. It is also present in the current 14.1 beta.

I know there are so many tutorials and solutions are posted on internet regarding this, but I am unable to solve my issue.
I am using Ubuntu on my desktop and I also wanna access my MacBook (MacOS mojave 10.14.6) within local network. I followed “Sharing” preference panel and checked the box next to “Remote management” then “Computer Settings…” and made “VNC viewers may control screen with password” checked and set a simple password.
But I am having authentication issues while accessing from Ubuntu, It asks me username and password, I am putting same password which I set previously on mac configurations.
But IDK which username is needed to be put here, I tried so many like mac username, mac pc name, Ubuntu username even tried to keep it empty but it's not working, it's showing always authentication error, How do I solve this? Am I missing anything?

I have a number of FreeBSD servers, and I'd like to put VNC server software on them, then access them from a Mac running OS X 10.9.5.
I believe Apple had a built in client with a non-obvious name, perhaps "screen", which they "fixed" a few releases ago to only work if the VNC server was itself from Apple, running on a Mac.
I once used "chicken of the vnc", which was flaky on older OS X release from 2 years ago. IIRC, I was using "Tightvnc" or "Realvnc" on my servers at that time, which had worked fine with the first random windows-based VNC client I tried.
All I've heard about so far are
- "screen sharing app" from apple, possibly pre-installed on the mac,
name and location unknown
- a client from realvnc that runs in the chrome browser (ugh!)
I appreciate alternativeto.net as a source for finding software of this type. I now have tigervnc running on one server and on the Mac client. No flakiness so far, but the Mac client for tigervnc seems unwilling to let me connect to multiple servers at the same time, and Mac's GUI interface seems unwilling to let me launch multiple copies of the client program. So still looking for alternatives, but making progress.
Still trying to figure out how to invoke the client built into OSX - it's not at the path I found on the net, /System/Library/CoreServices/Applications Looks like I need to know the right invocation to feed to Finder, which doesn't have anything like a button labelled 'screen sharing'. I did find a menu item labelled "connect to server", but that just gives me connection failures, perhaps because it's defaulting a URI type of afp:// which probably has nothing to do with vnc - or perhaps because the tool is unrelated to vnc.]
What client software can do better than what I have or how do you set it up to solve my issues (cut/copy/paste functionality) as well as those listed above?

Let's say I have 2 MacPros:

I am currently able to do the standard screen sharing using my work MacPro from home, and can also normally access its folders etc. My question relates to ensuring privacy of the work content in case someone walks by while I'm using that remote computer. Unplugging the work computer's monitors would not be a fully working solution, as it would only partially resolve this issue.
I wonder if there is any way I could access my MacPro at work from home using the screen sharing method, **without** anything being visible on the monitors of said MacPro at work?

I'm connecting into an M1 macbook (Sonoma) from a 2019 iMac (Sonoma, 64GB, i9, Radeon 570x 4GB) using Apple Screen Sharing.
Especially when viewing Chrome / Electron based applications, the iMac's fans start spinning at full rev, and I notice 100% or more CPU usage by the Screen sharing app (not globally as shown on the Activity Monitor graph). I've noticed that it happens when there is mouse or keyboard activity; as soon as I switch out of the Screen Sharing app on the iMac, the CPU usage gets down to normal, even when I keep the Screen Sharing window visible, with all the macbook's UI updates going on.
Sure, it's summer, the 2019 iMac isn't a youngster or a graphics dragon, but:
- if I connect into the very same M1 from my 2015 iMac (Mojave), I don't have this problem, the fans spin up now and then, but nothing noticeable;
- it's not Sonoma specific, because I don't have problems connecting from my M2 macbook (Sonoma, ARD classic mode, the advanced is too buggy) either (but it can be Intel-Sonoma specific);
- it really is bound to mouse / keyboard activity, and it really depends on the app running on the M1, Chrome + Electron apps being the worst offenders.
My solution so far has been to throw
cpulimit
with a 75% limit at Screen Sharing. It solves the fan noise, but Screen Sharing starts stuttering a lot with some Electron apps (not all). Then I stop using the mouse or keyboard, and it gets back to running smoothly.
Does anyone have any pointers?

I have Zoom calls with students and an administrator would like to see my entire screen while I am giving a lecture to give me pointers. What are some feasible ways to do this? I have a few ideas:
1. Use Teamviewer to share my entire screen while using Zoom, but I am concerned this might introduce issues as two video call softwares are being used.
2. Use an HDMI to USB-C capture card to grab the HDMI output of my Macbook with the Zoom call and send it to a second Macbook, which I then share with the admin using Teamviewer.
I am wondering on the feasibility of the above and if there are any better ideas for this. Thanks very much.

I use Back-To-My-Mac to log into my office computer from home and vice versa. Normally, after I log into my home laptop, I darken the screen for both energy efficiency and privacy and that works fine. However, when I log into my iMac at work, I noticed the next day that the screen-darkening trick is virtually pointless as far as privacy is concerned (I share an office). The lowest brightness setting of the screen on my iMac is nowhere near a level that would prevent others from watching me work.
Is there a way to darken or hide the display on an iMac when logged in remotely? I've been searching for a solution and cannot find one.
