I tried running Music in safe mode, and got the same behaviour.
How do I restore the ability to control music playing on my Mac from my iPhone?
I'm running Music 1.5.5.34 on my M1 Pro laptop running Sequoia 15.5, and iPhone 14 Pro with iOS 18.5.

Apple TV 4K + LG Computer Monitor: Apple remote has but loses volume control

**Equipment:**
* Apple TV 4K with remote.
* 43" inch computer monitor LG 43UD79-B 4K with built-in speakers, has its own remote.
**Connection:**
HDMI, from Apple TV to monitor
**Problem**
When I first connected the Apple TV to this monitor I was able to control the volume on the monitor using the Apple Remote. Handy, one remote for everything!
After a couple of days and for no discernible reason that functionality disappeared. What did work was the monitor's remote for the volume. But that means using two remotes.
I fiddled with the "Volume Control" settings in tvOS to no avail. I then power-cycled the Apple TV, fiddled with the settings again and the functionality re-appeared. Then a while later, the functionality disappeared again.
I'd rather not do this whole powercycle + fiddle with settings dance every other day.
Does anybody have an idea what could be causing this and how to fix it?

I have a Mac Mini, M1, which I use remotely via SSH / VNC.
From time to time I need to issues a reboot to the machine.
After rebooting however, I am unable to establish an SSH connection as all I get are 'Connection Refused' packets.
It seems that machine does not actually finish the boot process until first login; only after entering my password on the local machine does it start accepting SSH connections.
How can I make the Mac actually finish booting without someone physically at the machine?

I use RealVNC to connect to an intel-based iMac, but it cannot wake it up if it is asleep after long inactivity. Yes, I don't change the setting to prevent from sleeping but only leave 'Wake for network access' on.
**However, the same works perfectly to connect a sleeping Mac Studio**. This obviously has the merit of letting the machine rest and saving energy.
Both 'server' machines use WiFi and the other machine used to control them is *not* necessarily within the same local network. The 'server' machines **do not have a public IP addresses**.
I tried to compare the settings like in 'Energy Saver' between the two host machines, but still have no clue.
When testing this, I noticed that I still can connect to the iMac right after (like 10 seconds) I manually put it to sleep. If I wait a few minutes, it does not work.

The configuration I used in the past 10 years or so was OK until I upgraded to Sonoma. I don't know what to do to make it work again.
Here is the configuration:
>macmini@work on public network
>macmini@home on private network
Both with screen sharing enabled. The command I use are the following:
ssh -Nfn -L 5901:127.0.0.1:5900 myusername@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
open vnc://localhost:5901
Where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of my work macmini (or the router IP when I connect from work -> home). From home everything is OK as usual (I need to use a tunnel because there is a firewall blocking port 5902) and I connect to my work macmini.
The other way around (work -> home) doesn't work anymore. The tunnel is OK but I can't connect (and it's not an authentication problem because my connection is blocked before the usual authentication box appears).
The error I get is a generic localhost connection failed
and then gives some suggestion on enabling screen sharing or remote management.
Additional information: the router configuration is ok (the router is in the DMZ zone and the SSH port is forwarded to my home macmini and I can connect to my home macmini via ssh) and both macmini have the same sharing configuration. I also tried to enable "remote managment" but the problem is the same.
My impression is that the problem is somehow more stringent protection in Sonoma because when I enable "screen sharing" in my macmini it says that I can connect to the mac using 192.168.0.100 (which is its IP address in the private network) or by its name. The vnc connection however arrives through the tunnel and use a different name (I tried both using localhost and 127.0.0.1 but the error is the same). The other way around (home -> work) works because I'm using the public IP address which is reported in the "screen sharing" allowed IP address to use to connect.
So the question is: is there anybody that had the same problem? How did you solve it? How can I control what allowed IP/NAME can connect to the macmini vnc server?
And finally: what other option do I have if I can't connect to my macmini@home through a tunnel? Of course I don't want to pay 90$ for the Apple Remote Desktop app.

The LG Magic Remote is a strange beast, because by default, the signals it sends to LG TVs tend not to be picked up by other IR controls (I don't know if that means it's communicating some other way, or whether the IR frequency it uses is really unusual). As a result, the Apple TV's "Learn Remote" functionality does not work straight away when operating the LG Magic Remote.
Nevertheless, there is a feature of the LG TV to configure its remote to serve as the universal remote of various inputs (i.e. select DVD player on HDMI 2, pick a make, verify it works, and then the remote will start sending IR signals whenever HDMI 2 is active).
The Apple TV is officially _not supported_ by LG (per their phone support) and Apple does appear as a valid make when selecting a remote type. So I figured [based](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwiKvKf_rubTAhXj24MKHX7UDusQFggmMAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fdiscussions.apple.com%2Fthread%2F7358351%3Fstart%3D0&usg=AFQjCNFyxccDb7Z4smWzO4cI9pnPBeOitg) on [googling](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=3&ved=0ahUKEwiKvKf_rubTAhXj24MKHX7UDusQFggzMAI&url=https%3A%2F%2Fforums.macrumors.com%2Fthreads%2Fhelp-apple-tv-with-lg-magic-memote-smart-tv.1641673%2F&usg=AFQjCNE4a-T3MNjO-OU3eerIf0p98biLMg) , that if I picked any nonsense DVD player, the remote would at least start sending IR signals that could be learned using the Apple TV "Learn Remote" feature.
Those linked threads report success, but in fact their advice of "rapidly mash buttons" for the Apple TV to learn the IR signal didn't work in my case, and I suspect it's a function of the newest 2017 version of the remote (I'm testing on an LG OLED65C7P). I've tried a dozen different "set top box" and "dvd/blu ray" device types, and in each case the IR signal for the arrow buttons is not strong enough for the Apple TV to register them at all.
Any ideas on how to overcome this?

Is there a way to connect to a remote Mac in such a way that the remote remains apparently locked, so that my remote session is "virtual" ?
I think Remote Desktop has this ability (it's called "Curtain", see https://support.apple.com/guide/remote-desktop/control-or-observe-one-client-computer-apd2450a787/mac) . Does Screen Sharing app have something similar?

Our AppleTV 4K remote control is getting clunkier, getting slower to react to touches and swipes on the remote control.
When choosing an app, I make a swipe-swipe-swipe to select the third adjacent app icon. And I wait. Sometimes the wait is half a second, sometimes more.
Inside apps, selecting a program from a list of icons is similarly slow. YouTube may be the worst, but other apps show slowness too. The selection of an app might take around a second. This is aggravating, as the user thinks the pad did not register any swipe at all. So you swipe again, and suddenly the selection ring jumps *two* icons over rather than the intended *one* icon.
Oddly, using the remote while plugged into a USB charger seems to restore some speed, at least for a while. But of course using a corded remote is annoying. And a weak battery charge is not the issue, as the slowness occurs whether the battery level is at 46, 60, or 100% charge.
We routinely restart the AppleTV as a desperate attempt to avoid this problem. Each user does a restart before and after usage, and often does it while using the AppleTV. This seems to help for a short while.
The AppleTV has the latest version of tvOS, with regular updates occurring.
When originally purchased, the remote control was instantaneous.
During this Covid season, we have been wiping the remote control routinely with 70% isopropyl alcohol as recommended by Apple. This definitely makes the remote control go crazy with wrong inputs, but a restart of the AppleTV always straightens it out.
➥ Is there anything to be done about the AppleTV remote getting slower to react to touch?

I'm trying to find out if it is possible on the iOS Developer Enterprise Program to remotely add a home screen bookmark to a website.
For example: a user can visit a website and add a shortcut to that webpage to their home screen in Mobile Safari via the Share context menu and picking "Add to Homescreen". I want to be able to reproduce this remotely to all the devices under my control as a matter of automation.
I understand that Apple have a Mobile Device Management Protocol (MDM) that can be used to install a configuration profile to devices. The documentation lists the following about configuration profiles:
> A configuration profile contains a number of settings that you can
> specify, including:
>
- Restrictions on device features
- Wi-Fi settings
- VPN settings
- Email server settings
- Exchange settings
- LDAP directory service settings
- CalDAV calendar service settings
- Web clips Credentials and keys
So there's nothing there about home screen configuration.
Is there any way of remotely adding home screen bookmarks to iOS devices?

*PS. I'm aware that a work around to this is to create a browser wrapper application and remotely push this app. However, that is not what I wish to do.*

With our new 21,5"-iMac, we bought the first Mac system for our Windows/Linux-oriented office. Hence we don’t have a lot of experience in using Mac OS X.
I started to set up everything and it ran quite well so far until I reached the configuration of our network printers.
In our company we use a Linux system running a CUPS-server. This server holds the configuration of all queues. All changes regarding settings or even additional printers are made there.
As we do not want to make changes on every client system if new printers join the infrastructure, we forward all print jobs to the remote CUPS print server.
**This saves a lot of time instead of configuring printers via IPP or equivalent.**
To make this work on Mac OS X, I found a link with the information I needed:
http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=2004011920201534
The .cupsrc-file (hidden file) in the home directory containing the line
ServerName
will instruct the local CUPS system to receive remote print queues from our print server.
After saving the file, the GUI configuration tool for printers in Mac OS X *(System Preferences… -> Print & Fax)* shows all remote queues running on the central CUPS server.
But after I upgraded to Mac OS X 1.7 “Lion”, the GUI doesn’t show the queues anymore.
I have no idea what to do and even Apple Support (registered owner of CUPS system) couldn’t help me out with that. They only pointed to the CUPS configuration file (/etc/cups/cupsd.conf), but I do not know the right setting there for printing to remote queues. Also, the web interface running on localhost:631 couldn’t help me… Any ideas?

My Mac Mini at home is behind a router. I need to access it occasionally from work using a Windows laptop. I use the following two links to set up the connection.
[YouTube: How to Access Your Mac over Internet](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBjRAK0rFvk) and
[Setting up Remote Access (Mac)](https://www.dynu.com/Resources/Tutorials/DynamicDNS/RemoteDesktopMac) .
I enabled Screen sharing instead of Remote Management mentioned in the second link. Then I tested it at home on the LAN.
First, I entered UltraVNC on my Windows laptop as the internal IP address for Mac Mini, I can access Mac Mini using UltraVNC viewer without a problem.
Then I set up a port forward for port 5900 in my router and checked it with [Dynu: Port Check](https://www.dynu.com/networktools/portcheck) . The port check result is **success**. According to my understanding, that means an outside computer should be able to use the router IP address and port 5900 to send access requests to Mac Mini behind the router. However, when I enter in the software UltraVNC Viewer (still at home) either the router IP address or the subdomain created at Dynu, UltraVNC viewer reports "Failed to connect to server".
Should I try outside the home? What else do I miss here?
