I upgraded my iMac Late 2013 to Catalina. When I login through Anydesk or Chrome Remote Desktop I see my desktop for a split second and then im presented with the lock screen again. While Anydesk is open, I can press 'switch user' in CRD which then shows me my screensaver. Then if I start moving around the screen saver eventually quits and I can use my desktop in CRD, while anydesk still sees the switch user screen (the available users and the sleep/restart/shut down options) After a fresh reboot I was on with CRD & Anydesk. I closed CRD, and I was back to the starting issue where the screen just locks and using CRD at same time I was able to login. Sometime later I ended up with total lockout - neither Anydesk or CRD will connect even though I know the Mac is online running scripts. Two remote connections, same iMac: 2 remote connections, 1 iMac I've also now put in Teamviewer and I have the same issue - as soon as I type my password it locks on me. It sems like something is locking the cursor because with every letter I type the password field loses focus and I have to click again and quickly type the next letter. These are the relevant options I can think of: - Energy Saver: Turn display off after 10 min, prevent auto sleep when display off, put disks to sleep when possible, wake for network, auto start on power failure, enable power nap. - Screen Saver: Start after Never - Amphetamine: Launch at login, start session when launch or waking sleep, indefinite duration, allow display sleep, (no screen saver, no forced sleep). Lock screen after 15 min inactivity, allow display sleep when screen locked.

I use RealVNC to connect to an intel-based iMac, but it cannot wake it up if it is asleep after long inactivity. Yes, I don't change the setting to prevent from sleeping but only leave 'Wake for network access' on. **However, the same works perfectly to connect a sleeping Mac Studio**. This obviously has the merit of letting the machine rest and saving energy. Both 'server' machines use WiFi and the other machine used to control them is *not* necessarily within the same local network. The 'server' machines **do not have a public IP addresses**. I tried to compare the settings like in 'Energy Saver' between the two host machines, but still have no clue. When testing this, I noticed that I still can connect to the iMac right after (like 10 seconds) I manually put it to sleep. If I wait a few minutes, it does not work.

I am attempting to connect to a MacBook Pro from a Mac Pro with a 2560x1600 monitor using the built in screen sharing client. I would like to be able have the connection fill the entire screen, but currently the best I can do is set the MacbookPro's resolution to 1680x1050 which fills about 2/3 of the 2560x1600 monitor. Since the built in client is really a vnc server, I would like to be able to set the 'served' resolution to 2560x1600 instead of the native resolution of the MacBook Pro. On a linux server this would be as simple as $vncserver -geometry 2560x1600 and then connecting to the created server. Is there a way to get the native mac vnc client to do this? For what it is worth, I found the location of the client (on Sierra): /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/AppleVNCServer.bundle/Contents/MacOS/AppleVNCServer but can't figure out what arguments it might take (if any) This post seemed to use ARDAgent to activate and configure the VNC server but did not mention anything about setting the resolution for the server.

How can a Mac running El Capitan always be ready for a VNC connection even after a reboot? I can vnc into the Mac with no problem but when I reboot the Mac remotely I can't vnc back in. Someone has to hook up a keyboard to the Mac and physically log in and log back out. Once the machine has been logged in locally I can once again log in remotely via Mac. I'm using the Mac's built-in VNC as well as an installed RealVNC server. Neither will respond after a reboot. I edited the RealVNC launch daemon to run at load but that didn't work. UPDATE The mac has filevault turned on. 'sudo fdesetup authrestart' will work with a manual reboot. It will not work however with a forced system reboot or a power outage. Someone would still need to manually login with a keyboard in those cases. The options at this point seem to be to disable Filevault or accept the fact that a person will need to login occasionally.

Its intended to be a portable machine so it may change locations and thus wifi networks.

The configuration I used in the past 10 years or so was OK until I upgraded to Sonoma. I don't know what to do to make it work again. Here is the configuration: >macmini@work on public network >macmini@home on private network Both with screen sharing enabled. The command I use are the following:
ssh -Nfn -L 5901:127.0.0.1:5900 myusername@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
    open vnc://localhost:5901
Where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of my work macmini (or the router IP when I connect from work -> home). From home everything is OK as usual (I need to use a tunnel because there is a firewall blocking port 5902) and I connect to my work macmini. The other way around (work -> home) doesn't work anymore. The tunnel is OK but I can't connect (and it's not an authentication problem because my connection is blocked before the usual authentication box appears). The error I get is a generic localhost connection failed and then gives some suggestion on enabling screen sharing or remote management. Additional information: the router configuration is ok (the router is in the DMZ zone and the SSH port is forwarded to my home macmini and I can connect to my home macmini via ssh) and both macmini have the same sharing configuration. I also tried to enable "remote managment" but the problem is the same. My impression is that the problem is somehow more stringent protection in Sonoma because when I enable "screen sharing" in my macmini it says that I can connect to the mac using 192.168.0.100 (which is its IP address in the private network) or by its name. The vnc connection however arrives through the tunnel and use a different name (I tried both using localhost and 127.0.0.1 but the error is the same). The other way around (home -> work) works because I'm using the public IP address which is reported in the "screen sharing" allowed IP address to use to connect. So the question is: is there anybody that had the same problem? How did you solve it? How can I control what allowed IP/NAME can connect to the macmini vnc server? And finally: what other option do I have if I can't connect to my macmini@home through a tunnel? Of course I don't want to pay 90$ for the Apple Remote Desktop app.

I have a new Mac which I have been using for some weeks, that I setup to sync on iCloud with a new Apple Account. However, for the last few days, Passwords app has stopped working. It is empty and I cannot add any new passwords. When I try to add a password, nothing happens, it is not saved. I also tried opening Keychain Access app, but it asks for my login password and then just does nothing, it does not open. Any suggestions on how I can get things working again? I have latest macOS version at the time of writing. **Update:** I should have mentioned that this happens when I am accessing the Mac in question remotely, using Apple's solutions (Screen Sharing, or Remote Desktop). This seems to be a crucial aspect, because now that I am sitting locally in front of the Mac, and I open Passwords, everything works fine. So, could this be an issue with Remote Desktop access only?

I have discovered that someone has gotten onto my MBAir and created me as their "client" using ARD [Apple Remote Desktop]. This is my computer. Sharing is not on. I have not given access to anyone or shared my password. The alleged person is a computer programmer. After numerous issues where I suspected tampering, (I have been through this before which prompted Apple to replace the motherboard), I started doing searches in Terminal. That's when I discovered that they are using ARD to remotely connect to my computer. In an attempt to get rid of this intrusion, I have used two sudo commands to remove ARD from my MBAir. Once either terminal command runs, a notice appears stating that ARD will be removed after reboot. I reboot but the person reconnects; it shows up as "restored" in a grey bar with a time stamp when I open my laptop. I started using the sudo commands in January.
sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/kickstart -deactivate -stop
sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/kickstart -deactivate -configure -access -off
sudo systemsetup -setremotelogin off
I need another way to get rid of this illegal intrusion. Apple had me do a reinstall of the Sonoma Operating System but that did nothing. Given the age of my computer, it can't be upgraded to the new OS. Can I find something embedded in Library on my HD that I could delete? Or a sudo command that will permanently block this person. I am not a computer scientist so lay language please. Thank you. PS: When either command is run after I enter my password, the Terminal message reads: Starting...Removed preference to start ARD after reboot. Done. When this person reconnects, I get a "restored" message in a grey bar followed by my login time.

So the Mac in my studio has all the power & resources, but I often like just accessing it via screen sharing from a lower specced MacBook. Screen Sharing (aka vnc) works quite well on a fast network, but there's no audio. What's strange is if you are using Messages and invite a screen sharing session with another use, there *is* audio. But for reasons beyond my comprehension, Apple have decided to leave that out for straight up screen sharing. When using Logic, AUNetsend/recieve can work, but it's a but flaky and difficult and frustrating to make it work over WAN (though I have had it working). Does anyone know if I purchase Apple Remote Desktop perhaps that would enabled audio? Are there any other methods I've missed?

Is there a way to connect to a remote Mac in such a way that the remote remains apparently locked, so that my remote session is "virtual" ? I think Remote Desktop has this ability (it's called "Curtain", see https://support.apple.com/guide/remote-desktop/control-or-observe-one-client-computer-apd2450a787/mac) . I use the Screen Sharing utility to see the desktop of some headless machines (from a URL like ‘vnc://username@servername’). In macOS 15 Sequoia (unlike macOS 12 Monterey), Screen Sharing always starts with the toolbar showing.  This is annoying, as the toolbar takes vertical space, slightly squashing the window contents.  (You can of course click on the ‘View’ menu, click on ‘Hide Toolbar’, and then double-click the titlebar to zoom the window and reclaim the space — but that's tedious to do every time you open a new window.) Is there any way to configure it to hide the toolbar initially? I haven't found anything relevant on the web, or in the Screen Sharing or system settings.  I don't want to run it in full-screen mode — even though that gives the maximum possible screen space — as I often want to refer to other windows at the same time.  I've tried removing every button &c from the toolbar, but it takes the full height even when empty. --- (It may be a coincidence, but the ability to hide the toolbar seems to have reduced over time.  Early versions of Mac OS X showed a rounded ‘lozenge’ at the right-hand end of the titlebar which would show and hide the toolbar; later on, the toolbar's context menu had a ‘Hide Toolbar’ option underneath those for choosing Icon and/or Text — see [this question](https://apple.stackexchange.com/q/30950/291214) .  Now the top-level menu option seems to be the only way, and it doesn't even have a default keyboard shortcut.)

I followed “Sharing” preference panel and checked the box next to “Remote management” then “Computer Settings…” and made “VNC viewers may control screen with password” checked and set a simple password. enter image description here enter image description here But I am having authentication issues while accessing from Ubuntu, It asks me username and password, I am putting same password which I set previously on mac configurations. enter image description here enter image description here enter image description here But IDK which username is needed to be put here, I tried so many like mac username, mac pc name, Ubuntu username even tried to keep it empty but it's not working, it's showing always authentication error, How do I solve this? I have a number of FreeBSD servers, and I'd like to put VNC server software on them, then access them from a Mac running OS X 10.9.5. I believe Apple had a built in client with a non-obvious name, perhaps "screen", which they "fixed" a few releases ago to only work if the VNC server was itself from Apple, running on a Mac. I once used "chicken of the vnc", which was flaky on older OS X release from 2 years ago. IIRC, I was using "Tightvnc" or "Realvnc" on my servers at that time, which had worked fine with the first random windows-based VNC client I tried. All I've heard about so far are - "screen sharing app" from apple, possibly pre-installed on the mac, name and location unknown - a client from realvnc that runs in the chrome browser (ugh!) I appreciate alternativeto.net as a source for finding software of this type. I now have tigervnc running on one server and on the Mac client. No flakiness so far, but the Mac client for tigervnc seems unwilling to let me connect to multiple servers at the same time, and Mac's GUI interface seems unwilling to let me launch multiple copies of the client program. So still looking for alternatives, but making progress. Still trying to figure out how to invoke the client built into OSX - it's not at the path I found on the net, /System/Library/CoreServices/Applications Looks like I need to know the right invocation to feed to Finder, which doesn't have anything like a button labelled 'screen sharing'. I did find a menu item labelled "connect to server", but that just gives me connection failures, perhaps because it's defaulting a URI type of afp:// which probably has nothing to do with vnc - or perhaps because the tool is unrelated to vnc.] What client software can do better than what I have or how do you set it up to solve my issues (cut/copy/paste functionality) as well as those listed above?

While I'm setting up my new MacBook, I had a Studio Display in a more ergonomic posture which I plug my new Mac into. Therefore I need some way of controlling the old MacBook (which is out of reach) while having the contents on the studio display. I'm trying to use Apple Remote Desktop. I have connected the two MacBooks using a USB 4/Thunderbolt 3 wire, setup Thunderbolt bridge, and entered the self-assigned IP address of the old Mac. However, there is still considerable delays and lag, especially if I move to the highest resolution. USB4/Thunderbolt 3 can drive a Studio Display, so bandwidth shouldn't be the main/only factor here. Is there anything I'm doing wrong? Should I be using another software that is specifically optimized for screen control/sharing over Thunderbolt/ethernet?
