Is it possible to mirror 2.5K or 5K iMac display to 1080p TV through Apple TV without swithcing iMac's resolution?

I have a 27" iMac with 2.5K built-in display resolution. Also i may replace it with a 5K/retina one. The problem is mirroring it's display without changing my mac's resolution other than it's native resolution. When I use a Thunderbolt to HDMI converter and an HDMI cable, my mac forces me to use lowest resolution between itself and my tv (1920x1080/2K). So it prefers the tv's resolution and my mac switches it's built-in display resolution to 2K and this is not what I want. So, I think about Apple TV and AirPlay mirroring. My question is: **Is it possible to mirror my mac's high resolution built-in display to a low resolution (2K) tv through Apple TV without changing the mac's resolution?** If it's possible, naturally higher resolution image will be scaled down/transcoded to a lower resolution image. Texts and details on original image will be corrupted/blurred but it's ok, I don't expect/need a super clear image on the tv. So, will Apple TV do the job, can it transcode original high resolution image to fullscreen 2K image for my tv?

I just got a new M4 MacBook and it's a powerhouse, and if I plug it into the beautiful 5K 27" iMac 2020 via thunderbolt, the screen mirroring is almost latency free. Very close to the old Target Display Mode experience. Also awesome is Universal Control allowing me to just swipe my pointer across to the MacBook and control it with my iMac's Magic Mouse and keyboard. When you do this though it becomes immediately obvious that the ultimate setup is controlling the MacBook with the iMac mouse and keyboard AND using it as a display. But these options are mutually exclusive. One disables the other. Is there any way or workaround? Or would this just be way too awesome to be allowed, being that it deters people from having to buy 5K Apple Cinema Display? I know I can use Screen Sharing, but VNC protocol is old and no where near the quality and low latency experience as Air Play. Not to mention, there's no sound.

I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro with macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 installed. I have just found out that my Smart LG TV with webOS has AirPlay incorporated so, I would like to mirror my MacBook Pro screen on my TV. However I can't find AirPlay on my MacBook. Already searched for some solutions on Google but the only option that I found was to go to Screen Settings on System Preferences and turn on "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" which it is. However the AirPlay icon doesn't appear in the Menu Bar. Does anyone know how to solve this? Is my MacBook too old to support AirPlay?

To list an AirPlay device's details but it keeps running once that is done. Context: I have an AirPlay speaker that is slow to show up in the AirPlay speaker list on devices. The AppleTV shows up instantly so I was hoping to get some stats on when the speaker is slow to show up vs. not; as a way to understand what the issue might be.

Which AirPlay receiver devices work with which sources?

I have a Samsung TV from 2018 with built in Airplay. I can stream to it from iOS 16 on an iPhone 8, from iOS 12 on an iPhone 6, but not from iOS 10 on an iPhone 5. The TV is simply not showing up in iOS 10. Ironically iOS 10 does show my Kodi instance and my neighbor's Apple TV as available; just not my own official Airplay receiver in my TV. I've never been a heavy user of Airplay but I always assumed that it's supposed to "just work" if it actually says "AirPlay" on the box, and that I wouldn't have to do research on every permutation of version numbers between my devices. Apparently that's the wrong assumption, because iOS 10 can't even stream audio to it from the looks of it. **How do I determine which AirPlay devices are actually compatible with each other?** I couldn't find this information (e.g. a table of compatible iOS and AirPlay versions) and without it it's quite difficult to even answer the question of whether this *should* work. It would feel very cheap if modern receivers can't be bothered with compatibility code though. --- - The AirPlay version as stated on the TV is 17.24.6. Whose (Apple or Samsung) version numbering scheme that is I can't tell. - All iOS devices are on the same network. - All iOS devices see the same AirPlay receivers, with the exception of iOS 10 not seeing the TV. ------ #### Update I found system requirements for airplay, which isn't exactly what I was looking for, but they state "iOS 11" as a requirement. This confuses things more, since it's decidedly nonsense — airplay is part of iOS 10 and has been around since long before it.

I've read about creating some Frankenstein multi-output thingie in the MIDI section of settings, or something like that -- not interested. Does anyone have a convenient solution to this obvious use case? I'll take a third-party solution again, if need be, since it seems like Apple is once again denying functionality to steer users toward their profit channels (the Music App in this case). I have a ton of Airplay 2 -capable Airport Expresses which I Hoovered up on Ebay. They're great, and I'd just like to be able to stream to a bunch at once from my Mac using the audio source of my choice.

I am looking to buy an older A1427 model of Apple TV because I really only need it for AirPlay from the iPhone and 1080p is more than enough. I have heard that people have issues with older devices like that. But I also read that this issue only happens on streaming apps, and I only need it for showing the screen, pictures/videos from the gallery and some videos from Safari. Will it still work on IOS 16-18? Or do I have to opt for the newer version? Thanks.

I picked up an Airport Express before they disappeared from the market, with the objective of using its audio-out to connect remotely to a HiFi. My set-up is as follows: - Time Capsule connected to cable modem. Internet + Wifi + time machine working properly. - New, not yet hooked, Airport Express. I gave up after many failed attempts using AirPort Utility (under High Sierra 10.13.6 on a MacBook Pro) to extend the network: "An unexpected error occurred. Try again." Connecting the Airport Express using Ethernet to its LAN line, I created an independent WiFi network. Now I can AirPlay form iOS just fine. I can also AirPlay from the MacBook **but** only after I switch from the Time Capsule's Wifi to the Airport Express's Wifi. How can I extend the network? I've tried resetting the unit by disconnecting power, holding the reset button for 10 seconds, and then reconnecting power while the reset button is still pressed; as well as switching Wi-Fi TCP/IP to "Link-Local Only" under "Configure IPv6". I vaguely have the sense that it all worked nicely until I hit the "update firmware" red button for the Airport Express. Is there a way to regress the firmware?

Is it possible to play music on multiple devices on MacOS via AirPlay, similar to the feature on iOS 11 and above ? I've seen this working within Apple Music but have not found a way to do this via the control center or any other app on MacOS. As an alternative, I've tried putting all speakers in one room in Apple Home, but I'm not even able to select a specific room to play music in. This seems like it should be a basic features, more so as it has been around on the iPhone for ages. Anyone has an idea how to solve this?
