Macbook Pro 2020 13" and bad image quality with external VGA monitor

I have just bought a new MBP 2020 13" and at the moment I am using it with an old 17" HP L1750 external monitor with the USB-C-to-VGA apple adapter; the quality of o the image on the external monitor is way worst than the one I got with my old MBP 13" 2009 (also with VGA adaptor): the text is kind of blurry and reading on that monitor is very tiring for the eyes. Do you know why and if there is a solution? In both cases the external monitor is set (in MacOS preferences) to 1280x1024, the native monitor resolution. Thanks.

MacBook pro 16 inch 2019 keeps forgetting KVM settings

I have a KVM setup that connects several computers to the same Keyboard (Kul ES-87) and Mouse (wireless logitech M525). My monitors are 24 inch, 1920x1200 resolution Dell (2412M and 2415). I connect an Ubuntu machine, one Late 2013 Macbook Pro and a brand new 2019 Macbook Pro 16 inch purchased last week (henceforth, just "MBP 16") for work to this KVM setup (IOGear GCS24U). The MBP16 has AMD Radeon Pro 5300M 4 GB & Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB and has the latest, updated software. The Ubuntu and the Late 2013 MBP machines connect just fine to my KVM, and have had for years now, but the MBP16 has been extremely flaky with the KVM. The result of the flakiness: it doesn't recognize the VGA monitor (Dell U2412Mb) and after it fails, requires heavy-handed approaches (see below) to fix. I am not sure if these approaches are sustainable. I connect the two external monitors to the MBP16 in the following way using two separate USB-C ports on the MBP16: * MBP16 port 1 -> Benfei USB-C 2 VGA -> KVM (VGA) -> (VGA) Dell 2412Mb // Mostly flaky * MBP16 port 3 -> Anker USB-C 2 DisplayPort -> (DisplayPort) Dell 2415 // Always works (MBP16 port 2 is used for a USB 2.0 hub for ethernet, mic, KVM mouse and keyboard; MBP16 port 4 is used for power.) I see that the MBP16 connects to the U2415, no problems ever noted. The VGA connection through the Benfei adapter and U2412Mb frequently is flaky (see definition of flaky below). It requires a combination of me switching the KVM port for the MBP16 or reconnecting the VGA on the KVM switch itself that makes the MBP16 recognize the U2412Mb again. What do I mean by flaky? It works fine so long as it was recognized: wakes up from sleep and re-recognizes the VGA display; after switching to another KVM port, re-recognizes the VGA display. However, if I remove the MBP16 and take it outside of the KVM world (e.g., work on sofa) and get it back, it forgets the VGA. And then it requires all kinds of heavy-handedness to re-recognize the VGA. * I am not daisy chaining monitors through a hub (see connection description above). * I am running the latest OS on my MBP16 (11.3.1). * I have tried, instead of the Benfei USB-C adapter, (1) An apple-store purchased Belkin VGA to USB-C adapter (which did not work at all) (2) an Apple adapter to thunderbolt and then a thunderbolt to USB-C (didn't work at all); (3) a CableCreation multiadapter with Ethernet and VGA to USB-C (worked for 20 minutes). That said, I didn't try using a different KVM port when I tried approaches (1)--(3) above. Also note, a direct connection from Benfei USB-C 2 VGA to the Dell 2412Mb works fine. * Last, but not the least, I tried both NVRAM and SMC reset multiple times, didn't do anything. What is the secret to appeasing the "it just works" Apple gods? Any insight is appreciated. PS: Post question rant: FWIW, I have noticed it never "it just works" with Apple gear. NFS, CIFS, Guest access, USB connections, USB-based Ethernet, iMessage forwarding, call forwarding to other Apple products, all of which, in my over-a decade experience, has never "it just works" and it always breaks from one release to another.

Native resolution not available via USB-C ⇒ VGA adapter?

I'm connecting a Macbook Pro to a 1600x1200 display via Apple's [USB-C to VGA converter](https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MJ1L2AM/A/usb-c-vga-multiport-adapter) . By default it selects an appalling 800x600 resolution and the system settings only let me push this up to 1280x1024. The only tweak I could find is to enable "Show all resolutions" which does offer more options but nothing beyond 1400x1050, which looks horribly blurry. The adapter claims to support resolutions up to 1920x1080, which is slightly more pixels than 1600x1200, so I can't see a good reason why it would refuse to use the native 1600x1200. How can I convince the machine (running Ventura 13.2.1) to Do The Right Thing?

At my new job, I received an Apple MacBookPro to work on. Some specs: 16-inch 2021, Apple M1 Pro cpu, one HDMI port. Can you recommend me an adapter (not a cable) HDMI male to VGA female, to connect to VGA monitors? I have a HDMI to VGA adapter (produced by Well) that's working for Dell notebooks, but not on my Mac; so, I would like to avoid buying another incompatible one. The adapter works with the docking station I also received from my company, but having essentially 2 bricks and an adapter ... is not something I would like to carry with me or continue seeing on my desk. It seems some **clarifications / updates** are needed: 1. I'm not interested in all Apple history and how they moved one technology to other platforms/device versions/etc -> I want an adapter that works with my config. 2. I want something that is not device dependent so that I could use it with a video card if I want, or another windows/linux notebook (which might not have usb-C), that's why I've asked for an adapter from HDMI.

I have an HDMI to VGA connector and a Samsung LED screen. The screen is fine, the VGA cable is fine, the connector is fine (tried with different laptops running Ubuntu and Windows). **The Problem**: I'm plugging the HDMI-VGA connector in my Macbook Pro 2015 but the display doesn't show on the external screen. What I've tried: I went in Displays and tried all given options like extend screen and more. The window also shows the name of the screen "SMB2230" on my Macbook and when I plug-in the HDMI, the screen flickers for a second and dock (on the right) disappears from the built-in display and I can move my mouse to the right and it also disappears but the external monitor shows the message "Check signal cable". I have tried restarting it as well but no luck. **Note**: The screen is working with other laptops running Windows and Ubuntu with the same connector and the same VGA cable. *Please don't tell me that I have to use MiniDisplay port/wire from Apple.* here is an image enter image description here

I need to use my Mac with an old AOC 2236Swa, which only has a VGA port. To do this, I have a noname HDMI (male) to VGA (female) converter, which works fine with other computers. After I turn my Mac on, the monitor keeps alternating between standby mode and "No signal" message. The strange thing is, once I hold down the computer's power button to turn it off, suddenly the "Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now?" dialog appears, but by then it is too late to cancel it using the keyboard/mouse and it shuts down. This strange behavior makes me think it is only a software problem (presumably some utility prevents from properly connecting to the monitor and is shut down before the dialog is displayed). Is there some setting which I need to change to be able to use the monitor? Thank you.

I'm having issues connecting two external screens on my Macbook Pro 13" from 2020 enter image description here The thing is that I have two usb hubs: * AYCLIF ( details on this link ) which has: 2 x HDMI and a VGA adapter * HAMA ( details on this link ) Which has only 1 HDMI port So the situation is: - If I plug both screens via HDMI with they AYCLIF HUB then it recognises both screens but they are mirrored and it just one screen of both is shown here (the one connected to the #1 port): List item - If I plug both screens via 1xHDMI and 1xVGA with they AYCLIF HUB then the VGA one is not detected or listed - If I plug both screens with both hubs connected ( 1xHDMI from AYCLIF and 1XHDMI from HAMA ) Only is working the AYCLIF one - If I plug both screens with both hubs connected ( 1xVGA from AYCLIF and 1XHDMI from HAMA ) Only is working the AYCLIF one So, the question is. Is there something I need to change on the apple settings? or the issue is this hubs? or perhaps I'm missing something else? It worked just fine with my 2018 macbook pro (although the hubs are new) Note: If plug only one screen in the 3 available ports it does work. The problem is with both screen simultaneously

I've got a MacBook Pro (Early 2015, OS 10.11.2) and I've also got a Dell 2209WAf monitor, which I'm using with a VGA cable and this adaptor . The monitor's optimum resolution is 1680x1050 @ 60Hz and RDM shows this as an option. However, when I try to use that resolution, my screen looks like this Screen looks terrible, it's not as easy to see from the photo which is clearly not right (it looks impossibly pixellated and really hurts my eyes, you can barely see anything on the screen). On the monitor, it says it's displaying 800x600 when my Mac says it's displaying 1680x1050. I've seen questions about VGA cables/adaptors etc. asked before, but they all said it was to do with the resolution being too high. My monitor (and adaptor) can display 1920x1080 so that would appear to not be the case here. The options for the resolution in Displays all work perfectly (various ones from 800x600 up to 1400x1050 when Alt-Scaled) but then it jumps up to 1920x1080. How can I add 1680x1050 to this list, as presumably that would display clearly? SwitchResX doesn't fix this and neither does RDM, I've seen stuff about editing .plist files but that was all for Yosemite, apparently it's different for El Capitan. Any help is massively appreciated!

**Background** I was presenting at a venue where the projector supports 1280x720px resolution (16:9) via VGA cable (I've previously used the same room and equipment on an older 2011 MacBook Pro running Mavericks). Yesterday I used a newer 2014 MacBook Pro Retina running Yosemite, and was unable to set this resolution - the closest I could choose was 1280x1024px. When the MacBook is mirroring to a projector via VGA cable, the *> System Preferences > Display*s panel looks something like this: enter image description here In my case the only options were 1280x1024px and 800x600px (this image is from the web - I didn't get a screenshot at the time). **My question** Is there anywhere, other than the *> System Preferences > Displays* dialog, where you can explicitly set/force the output resolution? My only options were 1280x1024 or 800x600, yet I'm positive the projector supported 16:9 since I've used it before.

My aim is to deliver a conference to people present in the lecture room and also to those attending from home; all this at the same time. I am on Ipad 6th generation - iOS 14.2 Using the Apple Lightning to Digital AV Adapter and HDMI, it is apparently not possible to simultaneously project through a beamer and share the screen for people at home. I deduce that the direct connection with an HDMI cable already uses AirPlay and this thus hinders the possibility for screen sharing. The use of third party apps, such as SmartMirror TV & Device app, is not an option for me since I can't share the same network. I was just wondering whether: - using **HDMI** is definetely not doable - using a **VGA** connection (through an Apple Lightning to VGA Adapter) could solve the problem, allowing simultaneous projection in lecture room and broadcast for students at home.

Its driving me crazy! What can it be? I connect my laptop with a new VGA dongle to a new VGA cable (checked with another cable too).. I can't do anything in settings on my mac, because every time I plug in it turns black (it doens't turn black when it's only connected to the cables and not the monitor). Someone else knows this problem? I searched quite a lot but couldn't find the answer. Thanks a lot! :)
