Huge echo with my living room setup when using Facetime on a Mac Mini with external camera (nice Logitech). Zero echo using Zoom. Or really, anything else. Even Skype seems fine. The echo is heard by the party being called, but not on our end. The microphone is on the logitech camera (C910, and BRIO, both attempted), the speaker is out of the TV. I have attempted to move both, turn down the TV volume, change positioning in the room, etc... Of course, it is convenient to use Facetime, but actually my mother and father are using this as the seed of a 'let's buy Samsung phones' plan. They hear good things. They switch, I'll likely need to switch.

I have a Macbook Pro 2019 with decent spec. I plug it into a normal 21" external monitor. I also use an external webcam for my video call (Logitech C920e). This is a very normal workflow. But the problem is, every time I have a video call, specially if I do screenshare, the CPU usage goes 100% and everything comes to halt. My audio and video falls out of sync, and everything becomes irresponsive. When I check the Activity Monitor, it's just the system using that mach CPU. There is no special process causing this. I've turned off Software Acceleration in Chrome, but that's not the problem. The issue still exist. Also, I have the same problem if I do video recording using OBS. Any idea what is the problem? PS: The MBP specs are 2.4 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9, Graphics: AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 4 GB Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB, 64GB RAM

Due to Covid-19 I'm holding my lectures as webinar from my iMac (WebEx, Zoom, ...). Meanwhile my setup works, but there is one thing I miss a lot: Drawing sketches in front of the class while I talk about it. Now, that I own an iPad + Pencil I'm looking for any Mac app that would allow me to - sketch on the iPad (simple, symbolic stuff, just like scribbles on a white board) - while talking on the conference software - see my drawing in a window on the Mac in (kind of...) real time (I can put on the shared screen of my conference software) Any ideas? I am trying to set up my audio devices in a way that I can stream a mix of my voice (internal MacBook microphone) and the Mac's system audio via a video conference software. The software I am trying to use specifically is Microsoft Teams, but the same question could go for Skype or Zoom or any other video conference software that let's you select the audio input. I saw some online articles that suggested you create a "Multi-Output Device" in the Audio-MIDI-Setup software. But I tried that and I cannot get it to connect to Teams (i.e. I cannot select this Multi-Output Device as my "microphone" in Teams). Does anybody know how this can be achieved? Thanks!

Using virtual audio device as Microsoft Teams (app, not web) microphone

This is kind-of a "Hail Mary" question, as it's obscure and weird, but I figure it can't hurt to ask. MacOS 12.6 on an M1 Pro. I've got the MacOS version of Microsoft Teams installed, and I use a Cam Link 4K to route video from a camera for use as video for things like Teams, Zoom, Google meetings, etc. The camera works fine, but because what that Cam Link divice does is convert the HDMI stream to a USB webcam stream, it lags by 6 or 7 frames. My microphone is an ordinary USB microphone, and it also works fine. The problem is that the video frame lag makes the audio be a little ahead (about 170 to 180 milliseconds, depending), and that freaks some people out in meetings. So I installed products from Rogue Amoeba, "Loopback" and "AudioHijack". Loopback allows creation of virtual audio devices, each with an input and an output. AudioHijack allows filters of various kinds to be added into the audio stream. Thus, AudioHijack can listen to the real microphone, route that through a 170ms delay "device", and then send the output of that to the virtual audio device. That all works too: the delay clearly happens, and it makes Zoom through the native app work perfectly. QuickTime also uses the virtual device, and recorded video also comes out in sync. The problem is with Teams. The Teams app allows me to choose the virtual device, and the sound works, but the delay is missing. It's as if Teams shows me the chosen device, and shows it as chosen and a (bad) volume meter definitely responds, but it decides to use the actual device anyway. I don't understand how that can be possible, but we're talking about Teams here. So, has anybody else seen this? I've contacted the Rogue Amoeba people and tried a couple of suggestions, but they had no effect. (I'm going to get back to them; they're very nice support people.) Any suggestions (other than "delete Teams", much as I'd like to) are very welcome.

I use Zoom every day for teaching online classes, and I always use the Zoom app for iPad to screencast my Notebility app, which I use as a digital chalkboard. Frequently I will also open a second app in "split screen" mode -- for example I might demonstrate something using the Desmos graphing calculator app on the left while I make written comments about it in Notability on the right. Yesterday the Zoom app updated to Version 5.3.1; on the same day, my iPad updated to iOS 14.0.1. Suddenly screensharing in split-screen mode seems to be no longer supported: every time I try to open a second app while screensharing, the notification below pops up: "Screen recording has stopped due to: Recording interrupted by multitasking and content resizing." I’m not able to determine if Apple messed up wtheir iOS update, or Zoom do it with their app update or if this is an intended functional change. This same error has been reported by a user of Microsoft Teams , which makes me suspect that the culprit is the latest Apple update. ipad screenshot illustrating the zoom error message on screen I must emphasize that this is a *brand new problem*. I have done this routinely for months now and never had an issue before. Who broke this functionality? **EDIT (added January 2022)**: I haven't tried in a while, but I am happy to report that in iOS 15.1 this problem appears to have been fixed.

After the start of the pandemic people have been using increasingly nicer software when giving talks on Zoom. Among the nicest ones I've seen is one in which a PDF file is presented while the speaker scribbles on top of it or highlights parts of the text, the highlighting slowly disappearing as the speaker moves further down the page. My question is simply which software is this, as I'd love to start using it myself. Besides my short description above I can provide a screenshot of the menu bar in case anybody can help me name it! !enter image description here

I'd expect my MBP's built-in camera to be far superior than my phone's. Is this not the case? To do video calls I use Zoom, as well as Facebook Messenger from browser.

Since I updated to Big Sur on my MacBookPro MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2019, i5) I have this very inconvenient situation where my communication apps, specifically Zoom, Slack and Discord, jump to the front without any action on my part. Usually I have the app in the back, meaning I am either actively using another application, like writing something on visual studio code, IntelliJ, pycharm, or just have something else like Firefox or Mail opened in front of it. Then suddenly it jumps to front as if I had clicked on it or brought it to the front in some arcane way like "hitting cmd+tab" very fast. It has become common place to be showing something on zoom screen share to my colleagues and then discord or slack to jump to the front plane on top of what I am showing, or when just talking with video open the zoom landing/main/app jumps to front obscuring my screen in the middle of the call. It is very disruptive and frustrating to my workflow and it is happening at an alarming rate. Yesterday I had it happen to me 7 times, today it already happened once. I had other weird problems too with Big Sur like the zoom link to open a call not immediately opening a new tab in my browser (actually it may take up to 2 minutes to open a new tab), but this is showing signs that it is going back to normal now.

When I use airpods (2nd generation, NOT the pro) during remote meetings over Zoom, I can hear a "du..du.." noise intermittently and some light (but more constant) background noise. Such noise does not appear at all when I use these airpods over other applications, say YouTube or Music. I have two pairs of airpods (2nd gen) and both have the same issue. I also have a pair of first-gen airpods, which also has some noise problem with Zoom but is much less noticeable. I am using Macbook Pro (Early 2015 version, running Big Sur: version 11.0.1). Moreover, if I use wired earphones or let the audio play directly out of the computer's speaker, there is no such noise at all during Zoom conference calls. To sum up, the scenarios are: enter image description here Is this a common issue? Where does the cause lie (Airods? Zoom? Operating System?) Is there anyway to resolve this problem?

My aim is to deliver a conference to people present in the lecture room and also to those attending from home; all this at the same time. I am on Ipad 6th generation - iOS 14.2 Using the Apple Lightning to Digital AV Adapter and HDMI, it is apparently not possible to simultaneously project through a beamer and share the screen for people at home. I deduce that the direct connection with an HDMI cable already uses AirPlay and this thus hinders the possibility for screen sharing. The use of third party apps, such as SmartMirror TV & Device app, is not an option for me since I can't share the same network. I was just wondering whether: - using **HDMI** is definetely not doable - using a **VGA** connection (through an Apple Lightning to VGA Adapter) could solve the problem, allowing simultaneous projection in lecture room and broadcast for students at home.
