I'm able to able to natively access my iMessages through chat.db. and associated contacts through the databases in ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/Sources - is there any similar database for storing group chat membership/metadata? AFAIK this information is not stored in AddressBook or chat.db, although it is possible to access the group chat name through the chat table in chat.db

I have a PowerBook G4 (1.33Ghz, 1.5 GB ram) and would like to use it to video chat with my mom, who has newer apple products (FaceTime and the like). I don’t know if iChat is a viable option or if a different application can bridge the years in hardware and OS to have a family video chat?

On my iPads and iPhone, YouTube chat for replayed videos does not appear in either the YouTube app nor on Chrome. But when I open them in Safari, the chat appears. I believe this is a relatively new problem (say, in the past 6 months or so), but it definitely preceeded iOS/iPadOS 17. Case in point: This randomly chosen livestream : will show me a chat immediately in Safari on my iPads and iPhone, all running iOS 17.0.3. But if I open it by any means in YouTube (meaning via subscriptions page, notifications, et cetera - method makes no difference) or on Chrome iOS or iPadOS, no chat appears. I believe, but cannot currently verify, that the chat will appear on macOS 16/17 Chrome. (Not at home, so cannot check. Will update question Wednesday if not answered.) Is there a setting I can use to enable chat for replays (especially in YouTube app)?

My phone broke and was forced to get a new phone without backing up my WeChat chat history. However, because I always use the MacOS app, I still have my entire history on my Mac. But I can't seem to find a way to transfer that history from my Mac to my new iPhone, only the reverse. Is there a way to create a backup from my the data on my Mac instead of from the data on my phone?

I'm trying to export a Whatsapp chat from an iPhone Xr with iOS 15.6 including replies to messages. I tried to explore the ChatStorage.sqlite db trying to understand how does it works but it's very "messy"! After a while, I succeded in understanding how do it works but I really can't understand how does Whatsapp store replies to messages. The only thing I noticed its that whenever a message is a reply to another message (also when a media is attached to a message, so, more generally, whenever the "graphic thing" is on top of a message), in the ZWAMESSAGE table under ZMEDIAITEM column, a value appear, which is the Z_PK value of an entry on the ZWAMEDIAITEM table. Unfortunately this last table seems to only show informations about messages with media, as every message that should be a reply, in this table has nearly every value set to null. Also tried googling a bit, but I couldn't find anything. Could you help me to understand replies in Whatsapp database please?

Trying to use QuickLook for Chat transcript files isn’t working anymore on my machine. First it takes >10 seconds to load (for files <20KB) - and then when it does finally load, it’s just an icon. I can’t actually read the chat. Anybody else having this experience? I’m not even quite sure what to try resetting! Deleting the QuickLook plists does not seem to have changed anything.

I want to connect (through ssh, for example) to users in different computers and copy their iMessage history (chat.db). But this file doesn't get updated while the user isn't logged in. Is there a way to get message updates while the user is logged out?

I would like to use the chatsupport feature. I am in Taipei and my only languages are Math, Python and English. However chatsupport will only converse with me in Chinese. I walked into Apple Taipei 101 this afternoon to try to get some face-to-face assistance but the place was packed; this is a tourist hot spot and the store was packed and the staff frazzled. I may try to go again Monday, but **my question here is how to use Apple chatsupport in English from a connection in Taiwan?** I don't have a vpn. The link provided in the text sends me back to this page again because of course my location is in Taiwan. I see no way easy out of this loop.  I tried to reply to the e-mail summary that I received after the chat session was complete. It failed (it's no-reply) the error message recommended: >Thanks for contacting Apple. How I can save the Skype chat history from my ipad? It does not matter in what format, for example as a text file. In my ipad, I have a chat history, which is very important for me. This chat history includes several years of communication (so to copy it manually is extremely difficult, because it is impossible to select and copy a large amount of text in Skipe on an iPad, but only one message at a time). I still don't update from iOS 6.1.3, in order to avoid losing this chat history. I can not find the answer anywhere.

I'm in a group chat with 3 others. We all have iPhones. About a month ago, a new group chat was created with the same group. I deleted it, but it came back. 3 of the 4 of us experience this problem. The other guy has no idea what we're talking about when we say "this is driving me crazy." I have this problem whenever a group chat is created in Messages with me included. Any time somebody sends a text to the group, it sends it to me directly, but to everybody else it is shown in the group chat. Because of this I get a bunch of random texts with no context from the people in the group chat. I can text to the group chat just fine, but whenever I receive texts they're not within the group. **How do I troubleshoot/resolve this?**

Recently, iMessage won't sign in on my MacBook Air (10.8.4). I opened up Messages a couple of days ago, and my iMessage account was signed out. Upon trying to sign back in, I get a message reading: > The registering device does not have the appropriate credentials. And login fails. Anyone else have this issue?

For some reason I can't get Adium to connect to Facebook. Facebook refuses to log me in every time I try. I have the right email address and the right password... but it keeps asking for password.

Does anyone know where you can disable the join/leave messages in group chats in iMessages? In low-traffic chats it's utterly annoying to have scrollbacks full of 'xxx joined the chat.'/'yyy left the chat.' Thanks.

Chat Secure is working on iOS with Jabber but it doesn't stay active in the background (just for 10 minutes) so it is not really an alternative to the internal iMessage Chat. Which app is able to save Jabber messages offline and send them as push notifications as soon as you are online again? I use iOS 7 on an iPad Air

I am looking to do a video chat between an iPod Touch 4 and an Android phone (not sure which version, but less than a year old). Both of these devices have video cameras and microphones, I'm just not sure the easiest way to video chat between the two. Any suggestions?
