Sometimes a horizontal red line will appear in the scroller area of my Adium conversation windows. When it appears, nothing unusual or interesting is happening. I am not searching for anything, not selecting anything and not using any 'special' feature. I have consulted the documentation but it doesn't seem to mention the line at all. Does anyone know what this line indicates or what function it serves? Thanks!

Adium attempts to support rich text formatting (italic, bold, underline) and links. For instance, if I paste some text from my browser, Adium might display the message I'm sending as: which gets received as: I never want this feature, because the message Adium tells me I've sent is different from the message I'm actually sending; I can't tell what I've sent unless I send a copy to myself or spy on the wire. My current workaround is to paste as plain text (⇧⌘V or ⇧⌥⌘V) and avoid using the in-Adium formatting tools. How can I disable this feature?

I received the following error when trying to join Freenode with Adium: *** Notice -- You need to identify via SASL to use this server I understand why they want me to use SASL in my case, and I can see this is a common problem. I can see that Adium supports SASL, and I can find the help ticket that prompted the Adium dev group to add SASL support. What I can't find is... how to use SASL in Adium. I don't see any options for enabling SASL or configuring it or anything. Thanks for your help.

In the Adium chat client, each contact includes a number of event hooks via the "Get Info" window for a contact: - Contact becomes idle - Contact goes away - etc. Each of these events allows you to hook up an AppleScript when the event triggers. When the event triggers, I'd like to log the name of the contact that triggered the event. Thus far, I've tried a number of different variations on this line of AppleScript code: tell application "Adium" to get display name of contact of active chat Unfortunately, this doesn't yield the right result. I've pored over the Adium API docs and I can't figure it out. Any help is appreciated.

For some reason I can't get Adium to connect to Facebook. Facebook refuses to log me in every time I try. I have the right email address and the right password... but it keeps asking for password.

How do I manually uninstall Adium from Mac OS X? I uninstalled Adium using "AppCleaner", which seems to have caused my "Internet Accounts" logins to malfunction (I'm guessing the uninstaller deleted necessary files that were modified by Adium). So, I don't want to use another uninstaller app to get rid of it. I thought Adium was gone, but I now have an "Adium." Internet password in Keychain Access that reappears every time I delete it. Getting info on it tells me the location is "AdIM://Adium.".

Borderlands 2 (purchased, downloaded, run via Steam) crashes on launch for me. This is the first time I've ever really had application crashes, other than the typical "Application has quit unexpectedly" line. We are required to use Office Communicator at my work for instant messages. I am currently using the multi-protocol client Adium for my other accounts (AIM, Gtalk). I don't see a way to add an account for Office Communicator, so I'm wondering if there is any 3rd party support for this? All of the searching I've been doing only points to running a separate application (which I already use), or to requests to add this feature to Adium. I've haven't tracked down a 3rd party module, so I thought I would ask here if anyone knows of one.

Since upgrading to OSX 10.8.2 from 10.6.x I find that when I lock the screen Adium logs out. Upon unlocking screen Adium logs back in. It used to just set to away when screen locked and I have pushover scripts that rely on this. How can I get it to behave the way it did before I upgraded?

I'm using Adium on my Mac and I wish to communicate with several people. My friend on Linux uses Pidgin. Another friend is using Gtalk client and all using gtalk service. It's possible to create a chatroom to contain these clients similar to how Skype does group room chat?

Trying to connect to company Jabber/XMPP with iChat, I get stuck at password entering screen. Connecting with the very same info in Adium, ticking "Force old-style SSL" setting it work flawlessly. Guess it's got something to do with a self-signed SSL certificate or likewise. How do I make the iChat client connect? Want to kick Adium to the curb for a few reasons.

I am trying to set up my iCloud (@me.com) account in Adium. But it never logs in, and it says that my password is wrong. However when I set it up in iChat it works fine. I have googled for this sort of problem a bit, but found no answer. Why is it happening?

My wife and I are both running current versions of OS X (10.7.2) and Adium (1.4.3). We both use gmail accounts in it for instant messaging. She launched Adium yesterday, and it complained that Gmail's security certificate has been revoked, so she has the choice to override and trust the certificate anyhow, or not use that account--given the DigiNotar breech, the former is not a happy option. I'm not getting that result: the gmail certificate appears valid. As a test, I tried deleting my gmail account from Adium and deleting the certificate via Keychain Access; when I re-added the account in Adium, a certificate was pulled, and it came up as valid again. On my wife's machine, when I tried deleting the gmail account and the certificate (interestingly, there were no gmail certificates per se on her machine, but since the cert was issued by Equifax, I deleted the Equifax cert), and then re-adding the gmail account, I got a new error: "this certificate was signed by an unknown authority." I'll admit that the whole security-certificate infrastructure is over my head. So my questions are: What do we do? Why is Adium having trouble pulling a good certificate? Why might we be getting different results?

I use Adium , but if I set a "Quit Confirmation" in the advanced preferences, it cancels log out. If I don't, it is way too easy to quit it, since it gets focused between apps sometimes. Is there any way I can have a "Quit Confirmation" show up when I try to quit Adium, except when I am logging out or shutting down the OS?

When someone sends me a link in Adium I'll click it and Safari will open up. I'd like links to be opened by Google Chrome instead. I've had a look around the web and in the preferences but for the the life of me I can't figure this simple one out. Any clues? NB: My default browser is Google Chrome. **EDIT** I'm running version 1.4.1 (i.e. up-to-date). I use this [SkypePlugin](http://www.adiumxtras.com/index.php?a=xtras&xtra_id=5011) . Apart from that it's plain vanilla Adium.
