Mac Messages notifications are only displaying phone numbers or email addresses after upgrading to Ventura

My contacts are synced using iCloud, and the notifications work fine on my iPhone. It was working just fine in 10.14 too. Any ideas on how to fix this? Update: I tried to fix it by signing out of Messages and signing back in again... and now every single one of my iMessage conversations are gone! 😭 All of my SMS messages are still there.

On MacOS mail (Catalina, but also on 10.14), I've noticed that the client never finished downloading mail from my cPanel/WHM-based server (which has support for Apple Push for iOS, for what it is worth). The mail will come in and be readable, but it will keep saying "Downloading Messages" in the status area and the Activity window (the activity window will show it downloading, say, "Message 12 of 12."). Because it gets stuck like this, I never receive notifications when messages come in -- unless the Internet goes down and then suddenly I get a rush of notifications for everything that came in recently. I've noticed this problem on multiple different computers (a 2015 15" MacBook Pro and now a 2019 16" MacBook Pro) and on multiple networks. With this, I am almost always seeing Mail listed as drawing significant power on the little menu bar icon for the battery.

Per-event calendar notifications appear not to have the option of audible/haptic alerts that persist until dismissed. Is there a way to create this feature? As a person who irregularly reads notifications, I'd like to enable selected events to nag me until I acknowledge them so that overlooking key things on my schedule is harder to do. If this feature exists already, how do I enable it for a given event, esp. for notifications on the watch?

I've been having this issue for a while now and even the newest iOS didn't seem to solve it: The problem is that sometimes I just won't receive calls and/or messages. I figured it happens completely random, but **in most cases it happens when the screen is locked** - that means, even if I am passively using phone - listening to music and if the screen is locked, I'd sometimes get missed messages/calls - **It doesn't ring, I don't get any alerts until after I wake up my phone**. Then I get the notification of a missed call or that of a message that was delivered x minutes ago. - **'Do not disturb' is off**, I've also talked to people who couldn't reach me because of this problem and they said the phone was just ringing until the call was eventually dropped. - I've sent the list of missed calls to my carrier in case the problem might be on their side, but they've been unable to find anything out of the ordinary. So I guess the problem must be with the device itself or with the software. - Resetting network settings also doesn't seem to help at all. - Notification preferences in Settings → Notifications → Phone are all good. See comment under answer below: https://apple.stackexchange.com/a/379272/313842 I really like this phone, but if it doesn't serve it's main purpose, what can I do with it?

I have an iPhone SE with iOS 13.2.2 and latest Skype. Today I noticed, that notification about new messages in Skype are not shown on the lock screen. What happened was that I has a chat with a contact, then I locked the phone and put it into my pocket. Then it vibrated once, and again later. I took the phone, turned on the screen and, there were no notifications shown. I unlocked and there, there were new messages in Skype. Then after a minute I locked the phone again, but now I held it in my hand, with screen on (but locked). Then after a while the phone vibrated again and a notification for Skype appeared but disappeared again immediately. This happened a few more times, for each incoming Skype message (all from same contact). Is this some bug? Or setting? It worked fine before, even today.

I’ve been having this issue for quite a while now. I just suddenly noticed my iPhone 7 plus stopped giving me notification beeps despite all notification settings properly configured. I’ve read through solutions found online and after trying all steps, it’s still the same. The better solution I have experienced so far is that it’ll give me notification beeps for few minutes (max 1hr) and then it stops giving notification beeps again. Please let me know if anyone is experiencing this or has experienced it and what solution did the person arrive at? Right now my last hope is to restore factory settings but I’m still scared of losing apps and their data and at the end of the day, the issue won’t be resolved. I’ll be so glad if someone experienced can engage in this post.

I'm using Big Sur (11.4) with Facetime calling turned on. Whenever I get a call through Facetime or to my cellular number, the Mac silences whatever I was doing and puts out an obnoxiously loud ring. I know I can turn Facetime calls off completely, but that's not what I want. I do want to get call notifications on the computer, I just want them to be silent. Ideally I would like them not to mute my existing sound (music or whatever I'm doing) unless I take the call. Is there any way to turn off or mute Facetime rings while still receiving notifications?

In macOS (Sonoma) are notifications supposed to stay on the screen when the Notifications Center slides off the screen?
I'd swear notifications used to slide in and out along with the widgets when you clicked on the time on the right edge of the menu bar in OS X. Am I missing something? I can include screenshots if I need clarification on what I am asking.

I am running os 11.2.3 and wanted to customize notifications from system preferences. Specifically, software update notifications show up when there is a new version to upgrade to. However, they always show up as alert notifications. I would like them to display as banners, so it will disappear even if I do not dismiss it. Looking at System Preferences --> Notifications, there is no option for 'System Preferences' unlike other apps (Safari, Messages, etc.). **How can I change the settings/format for the system preference notifications?**

This makes sense as I do not want to be disturbed by my "unread" count judging me. Since I updated to Big Sur this feature is gone. A google search comes out empty, with only an app by an independent developer as the solution, but the app's website is gone. Thank you for your suggestions.

I have the activated the "Show Summary When Locked" option on my Apple Watch. When I receive a notification, the app icon, title, and a brief summary appears onscreen when my wrist is down, and a more detailed notification appears if I tap on the screen or raise my wrist. Sometimes, this brief summary remains present on my wrist for extended periods of time (what seems like at least a couple of minutes). This prevents me from reading the time without raising my wrist and dismissing the notification— a bother when, say, in a meeting. Is it possible to reduce the amount of time this summary is displayed onscreen? Much to my surprise, I'm unable to find any such options in Settings, nor can I find any similar questions anywhere else online.

I went to setting -> keyboard -> shortcut -> mission control -> Show Notification Center and I tried to set a shortcut but it doesn't work: whatever combination I type, Macs just plays the sound played when a button has no actions connected. I tried lot of different combination, always same result. Am I the only one having this issue? Times ago, the solution for this issue was a PRAM reset but seems like M1 Macs doesn't need PRAM reset anymore so the procedure has been deprecated...

The Focus feature in iOS seems intended to reduce unwanted or distracting notifications, but by default it provides new notifications of its own: suggestions for starting Focus and summaries of notifications accumulated during Focus. Both of these kinds of notifications arrive at precisely the time they are most annoying, respectively disturbing you just as you are starting an activity during which you are likely to want to be undisturbed, or just as you are concluding an activity during which you are in Focus (generally a moment, such as reviewing a workout, that requires the most focus). How do I disable these Focus suggestions and summaries?

The notifications are set to display as stacks. The scheduled summary stack appears normally, but it can't be separated into individual notifications. The only actions possible are to dismiss the entire group or wait for it to disappear. This has been happening on my iPhone SE 2020 ever since scheduled summaries were introduced with iOS 15 and I feel it happens to about 70% of the summaries. Is this fixable, or simply a bug that needs to be reported to Apple?

This has been getting me down, and I'm out of ideas. On my main twitter account, for one person I follow (@IndieGala), every single tweet is sent as a notification. After a quick bit of reading, I found two different methods to stop the tweets showing up, and I disabled it. A few hours later, they were showing up again. So I repeatedly disabled them for a couple of weeks, and it didn't ever stick. I then uninstalled and reinstalled the app, and that seemed to fix it. For about 15 hours, then once again the tweets started showing up. If I go into settings and tweet notifications, the account is there. I disable it in that menu, and it vanishes. When the notification inevitably shows, it's back in the list as If I had never removed it. I don't want to disable notifications entirely, and there is an account who's tweets I do want pushed so I don't want to disable that entirely either. Has anyone had something similar to this? It's literally driving me to the edge of insanity. Thanks
