Per-event calendar notifications appear not to have the option of audible/haptic alerts that persist until dismissed. Is there a way to create this feature? As a person who irregularly reads notifications, I'd like to enable selected events to nag me until I acknowledge them so that overlooking key things on my schedule is harder to do. If this feature exists already, how do I enable it for a given event, esp. for notifications on the watch?

I have written a custom complex rule for Karabiner Elements. I do not know if I should edit directly the karabiner/karabiner.json config file, so I was wondering if I could just save my custom rule inside karabiner/assets/, where the other modifications I downloaded (from [Karabiner-Elements complex_modifications rules](https://ke-complex-modifications.pqrs.org)) are stored. Will this work?

I'm running 10.10.4, and can't seem to be able to change the generic folder icon. I've tried going into /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/ replacing the icon there but it made no change. Then I tried the app Liteicon and it just made the generic folder icon disappear. Does anyone know how to change it?

How can I select a JPEG image and use that to customise/replace the usual blue folder icon for a given folder (which additionally may even make it easier to tell folders apart, when looking for one)? If this can be achieved without the use of a specific App, then all the better.

I am using Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I tried changing a folder's icon using this well known method. I used a png image as my target icon. The icon does get changed, but not to the picture itself, but the icon of a png file. The Icon I want to be there: What I get: You see? That is not the png itself, but the icon of a png file. I want the png to be the icon. Am I missing something? (If it is important, "Show Icon Preview" is turned on in Finder view options. This folder was read-only for everyone but after seeing https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/9623/problems-changing-drive-icon I changed it to Read Write for everyone)

Is it possible to remove the "Now Playing" (Music) section of the Control Center in Big Sur? The mac is my work machine, and I never (can't) listen to music when I work, it's not a big deal, but it's always nice to be able to fine tune a machine setup, and for me that would mean removing this. What I've tried: I found this help from Apple about customisng the Control Center: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/mac-help/mchl50f94f8f/mac But when you get to the relevant setting, it simply says "Now Playing is always available in the control centre" You can optionally show it in the _menu bar_ but can't get it out of the control centre as far as I know. I'd like to create a new Favorites folder item in the Finder, how can I tell the Finder that I would like a particular folder to appear in my list of Favorites shown on the left hand sidebar of the Finder window and in dialogs to open a file in an application? I expected to find this in the Finder's Preferences, but the Sidebar tab of the preferences only allows you to toggle the visibility of your existing Favorites, not add new ones. I see that applications like DropBox are able to extend this Sidebar, so what about an end user, how can I extend it?

I can't speak for the other commands, but defaults write com.apple.finder DisableAllAnimations -bool true doesn't seem to have any effect. I ran the above commands in Terminal, then force-relaunched the finder. Folders still animate when I click the chevron in the file list to expand or collapse them. Is there an updated list of Sonoma macOS settings that can be done via Terminal? I'd prefer to not install any software to mess with my OS for security reasons. (Of course, I'd still have to watch out for malicious Terminal commands.)

The default voices in Monterey are stored in /System/Library/SpeechBase/Voices/. I used **System Preferences > Accessibility > System Voice > Customize...** to install a few more US, UK, and novelty voices, but I can't find where they are stored. Prior to Monterey, the voices resided in /System/Library/Speech/Voices/, which still exists but is empty. The /System/Library/SpeechBase/ directory is apparently new with Monterey, but it does not contain the additional voices I installed. Where are these voices being stored?

It used to be possible to freely customize the system date format in Mac OS preferences up to some 10.x version with a nice and flexible editor. In current Ventura, there’s only a selection of predefined formats and only for the short version. In Shortcuts, for instance, (almost) all placeholders from UTS #35 can be used, so internal support is there, of course. Is there some hidden way to still customize the formats? For instance, I want to include the calendar week as in ISO 8601’s yyyy-'W'ww-d. Extra points if this format then can be used in the system clock.

The kind of shortcut I'm looking for is essentially: double-click an icon on right screen, launch "NEW NOTE", POP it to FRONT, so I can immediately begin typing or paste my selection into. I'm not a programmer or scriptor, so would like to ask if someone can create a script that enables me to do this? My use case is I have ADHD, and if I can't see my various work tools, I easily forget they're there. I use two display screens, left for primary apps, right for support tools/utils (Notes, MusicPlayer, Calendar, Messaging windows, Finder windows, ToDoist kanban/board view). So that screen is always filled, my 2 or 3 notes get covered over by foreground tools that have been expanded etc. Suddenly I need to add a new "note to self" to remind me of something, or I need to open a new note window to paste in a web selection on my browser. In all these cases I can't easily and conveniently "bring all notes to front", because (a) no keyboard command exists in Notes, (b) My Menubar is on left screen, but my focus is often on my right screen, so mousing over to click "bring to front" is a cognitive distractor. "Expose" is not always the answer when I've often got so many things displayed, I can't easily find my Notes app UI. Someone may have entirely different solution. I'm open but this would be optimal for my workflow. I am on El Capitan OS X. I want to be able to hit some keyboard shortcut and then have today's date be automatically outputted. Example: When I press Option + D, "2016_06_13" is pasted into the text field. The date would be automatically calculated based on my time zone. Ideally, I'd like to be able to do this universally. So in Finder, Safari, TextEdit, etc. — not just exclusive to one program. Having this shortcut would streamline my workflow. Is this possible?

I have a Macbook with a [Japanese keyboard](http://xahlee.info/kbd/ilayout/Apple_keyboard_Japan.jpg) , but don't need to write Japanese. I do prefer a US layout, but need to write German characters (äöüÄÖÜß). On Windows they had a "US - International" layout for this, where you can use for example AltGr+p for ö, AltGr+q for ä and so on. I know I can do this on Mac by pressing Option + u then press a for ä, but this is too slow to type fast with. Is there a way for me to create this using a custom modifier? I'd like to make the かな key right of the space bar a modifier key. So I'd press かな + p to get ö for example. I have remapped a few keys on my keyboard via hidutil, for example to extend the right shift and backspace to the character left of it. But can't find a way to press multiple keys to type one character

Is there an easy way I can add custom icons to the menu bar status area? Ideally something like Growl (e.g., where you can just execute a command) but instead of notifications, just renders icons in the menu bar. I'm mainly looking to draw numbers that I'd use to alert me of various things. For example, I can configure my email client to run a command/AppleScript to update the numbers when an certain kind of email arrives. Something like this:

I'm on Lion now, and hoped that Apple would have added the option to disable the quick preview buttons on the icons some way. Here's the problem I have: When I click on a video in Finder just to select it, I often hit the tiny triangle (see screenshot above), making the video play inside the icon. This is very irritating, since I have to click the teeny tiny triangle again to stop that. Finder has a "Show Icon Previews" setting in the view options, but that does not do what I want, as it disables the whole thumbnail preview all together, like so: This clearly not very helpful. I'm looking for a way to keep the previews, but disable the controls on the icons, so that whatever I do, the icon looks like this: I'd like to do this for *all* file types with these silly tiny controls on a 32x32 icon.

Since some version update of macOS Monterey (don't remember which one), the custom icons I previously created by pasting .jpg or .png images into some documents properties (top left) stopped working and showed up as "blank icons" on the Desktop. Very irritating. I recently upgraded to Ventura, hoping for a correction : no dice :-( . Then I tried multiple alternate methods for creating custom icns, but the problem subsisted. Finally I found a very simple workaround : - paste into the document properties your custom image - right click the blank document icon and select "Rename" - cancel the rename => the custom icn shows up ! Obviously, the cancelled rename forces a Finder's refresh for the icon, and solved my problem.

I recently updated my iPad to iPadOS 16 with the intention of trying out the new lock screen customization capabilities. However after following the Apple support page for "Personalize Your iPhone Lock Screen" I cannot seem to get the customization settings to show up. Am I doing something incorrectly? Long pressing does not reveal the Customize button.
