Today I responded to an email from a friend and noticed that the sent message was marked (more or less) "This message is from a blocked sender." After a bit of poking I found that the blocked sender was me and that all of my email addresses going back several previous employers as well as my phone numbers were all on the block list in Mail. I'm at a loss for how this could have happened, I assume it was recently, but there are no time stamps on the entries in the blocked list. The only clue I have is that I got a spam message from Amazon this morning & when I tried to add the Amazon address to the block list it was already on the list (but despite having enabled blocked mail filtering and set it to move blocked mail to trash the message was in my inbox. Maybe as I poked around to try and make sense of that I might have blocked myself by accident, but my old email addresses aren't on my Contacts card any more. I'm most puzzled & would love to hear an explanation or even some theories.

Not sure how this has happened, but maybe I deleted it... Im trying to find an email I sent back in May. Im using Apple Mail on Ventura. Ive searched various ways inside of Mail, but can only find the response from the recipient which does show my original email minus the attachment I had sent. Id like to be able to find my original sent email, but am stumped as to why its not showing anywhere. Is there by chance a folder , .eml , or similar where. I can look using Finder? I know the date & time it was sent. In a bind and on a deadline :( Thank you for any help. Here is a screen shot of my external location. I dont see a mail folder in the library. back up looked here too - dont see it. Cant figure out what im doing wrong. 2nd try

On MacOS mail (Catalina, but also on 10.14), I've noticed that the client never finished downloading mail from my cPanel/WHM-based server (which has support for Apple Push for iOS, for what it is worth). The mail will come in and be readable, but it will keep saying "Downloading Messages" in the status area and the Activity window (the activity window will show it downloading, say, "Message 12 of 12."). Because it gets stuck like this, I never receive notifications when messages come in -- unless the Internet goes down and then suddenly I get a rush of notifications for everything that came in recently. I've noticed this problem on multiple different computers (a 2015 15" MacBook Pro and now a 2019 16" MacBook Pro) and on multiple networks. With this, I am almost always seeing Mail listed as drawing significant power on the little menu bar icon for the battery.

Apple Mail sometimes not showing content of e-mail

I'm using Apple Mail 16.0 (3696.120.41.1.1) on a MacBook Air (13-inch, 2017) with macOS Monterey 12.6.2 (21G320). I don't know when it started but there's a problem I have since some months: Sometimes when I click on an e-mail in the list of e-mails, no matter in which folder (inbox, sent …), the header (from, to, subject, date) gets shown as usual but the e-mail content is empty, just white space. This happens with all my e-mail accounts. All of them are IMAP accounts. All these e-mails are already downloaded and often only a few KB in size. It's the same with e-mails with and without attachments. There's no "This message has no content" message or similar. This also happens when I disable the internet connection. When that happens the content preview in the e-mails list is visible as usual as well as the e-mail header. Only the mail content is blank. Sometimes I just have to wait a few seconds to see the content. Sometimes I can make the content visible by clicking on another e-mail and then back to that e-mail. But often I have to restart Apple Mail. This not only happens to one e-mail but often to multiple e-mails simultaneously. I click from e-mail to e-mail and they all show that behavior. **Rebuild** didn't help. Also reinstalling macOS (keep data but reinstall macOS) didn't help. I even completely erased the system, made a fresh install of macOS, and then restored data from a backup. (I'm pretty sure my problem would be solved if I'd make a fresh install and then import data and make the settings manually instead of restoring from a backup but I cannot do that currently.) Do you have any idea how to solve that problem? Is there any error log I can check?

I recently moved from outlook to icloud-mail (as it's free) using my custom domain. Switching was easy, now I'm trying to move my existing mails from outlook to icloud mail. I've decided that I will login both my outlook and icloud-mail accounts via IMAP on thunderbird and would then simply copy everything from outlook->icloud. The problem I'm facing is that I can't login on thunderbird. When I enter my custom-domain email thunderbird finds the correct imap/smtp hostnames etc., but when I try to login using an app-password (2FA is enabled) I get an error stating username/password doesn't work. I also tried it with my @icloud.com mail, following this article: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202304 But this ended with the same result. Now is it even possible to login with IMAP to my custom domain mail?

I really messed up. My main email account is a Gmail instance operated by my University as a benefit for alumni. In the process of cleaning out the 20,000 mail message "Archived" into the "All Mail" folder by my various iOS devices I ended up deleting the mail from my "Sent Mail" mailbox and all the old mail I still had in my INBOX. I've already contacted my University email team asking if they can restore deleted email but I'm not holding my breath. What I have now is an iPhone connected to this same Gmail account that has a cached copy of both the INBOX and the "Sent Mail" from before I messed up. So I put it in AirPlane mode and launched Mail. Sure enough the messages are there and not just the headers, every message I clicked on had the full text, but probably not the attachments. As soon as I take this phone out of Airplane mode and connect to the server things will sync and the messages will go poof! I watched it happen on my iPad. So I'm trying to copy the 200-300 messages in these two mailboxes to a safe location so that I can then reconnect to the server and then restore (re-copy) them to their rightful home. The problem is that with the phone in Airplane mode it'll let me edit the mailbox, select all the messages and then move them to another email account/mailbox, but nothing actually happens because the phone is in Airplane mode (offline). I've tried turning off mail for the problem account and then turning off airplane mode to allow my other email accounts back online thinking they may sync the offline move. That doesn't happen and when I do that iOS hides the mailboxes for the problematic and now disabled mail account. So I can't move the messages in that mode, since I can't see them. Is there some way to export the mail or mailboxes to local storage on the iPhone such that I could then get things back online and then re-import them? Is there utility or application that I could use that might help? Keep in mind, the problem gmail account cannot touch the network or communicate with the Gmail server or the messages I'm trying to save go poof.

I am trying to use AppleScript to automate sending mails through AppleMail, but the message always ends up being send as a blockquote (i.e. as if I replied to an email and my message got quoted). Is there something I might be doing wrong, or is this a bug in AppleMail? To clarify, if I try to send the message "Hello you", it is being sent as a rich text email with the plain text version
> Hello you
and the html version has
Hello you
in it... Interestingly the blockquote in Apple Mail looks like normal text, so I only spotted the issue after looking at the raw message source... The script that I use looks like this:
tell application "Mail"
set this_message to make new outgoing message

	tell this_message
set subject to "AppleScript Test Email"
set content to "This is the body of the test email"
make new to recipient at beginning of every to recipient ¬
			with properties {address:"recipient@example.com"}
	end tell

	send this_message
end tell

Just to be clear—I’m not talking about creating an alias. I mean actually changing something like uglyname123@icloud.com into bettername@icloud.com, and keeping the same Apple account. BTW, my Apple ID is my gmail account. Is this a real thing now? Has anyone here tried it? Would love to know what the process is like and if there are any limits or risks.

So if I write an email to xyz@ugent.be, I want mail to pick my UGent SMTP server. In all other cases, I want to use my gmail SMTP server configuration. Is this possible? If not, are there any applications that support this feature? (Some people on the university are very strict and won't reply unless you sent the email from your university email address. And I like it separated nicely as well.)

Over the last year, I have been receiving emails from a username that is my wife's name but has no association with my iCloud email account. I went into my iCloud account to see if we had accidentally set up an account and associated it with our iCloud account but there is no such account. Also, when I try to log in to iCloud using this supposed email it says it does not exist. Furthermore, the iCloud email in question arrives in my existing/regularly used inbox. Somehow, it appears as spam. Somehow, it ends up in my inbox but under a different username. I am baffled. The emails that come are confirming subscriptions to Monat or to Dolly Parton Stampede. It looks like possible "phishing" or something. Any ideas on how to stop receiving these emails?

The criteria is easy, but the action not so much. The only thing on the action menu that seems like it might work is "Run Applescript" but I know nothing about Applescript. In the "good old days", I'd use procmail but I suppose that's considered a dinosaur now even in the Linux world.

I want to embed an image, which I have locally, in my html email signature (i.e. my logo, linked to my website). I create a html file (and made a web archive of it) with referencing to my local image like src="file:///Users/myuser/path/to/image/jpg". Opening the web archive/html page in Safari displays the logo fine. Now, when I use this html signature, **Thunderbird is smart enough to embed the local image properly with a binary mime type of image/jpeg, however, Mail just doesn't do anything with it and just leaves the html code untouched**, still referencing to the local file (and even that doesn't work/display when I receive my own mail on my Mac where I actually have the file at that local place; probably sandboxed?!). My research to solve this didn’t provide a fix I can use: https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/1406/how-can-i-embed-an-image-in-an-apple-mail-signature https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/1138/how-can-i-add-some-html-to-my-mail-app-signature (and their respective linked articles on the web). The only way I could get the local image to display in the received email is to drag & drop the image from the Finder into the Mail signature preferences window, but then, I still have the problem that the image is not linked to my website, and I see now way to edit the html source of it in any way. I've already tried to drag & drop the image, then open the web archive file under /Users/myuser/Library/Mail/Signatures in Safari, fetch the html code (which holds code for an embedded object), modify the source code (adding a link around the image), save it as web archive and overwrite the old file. However, after doing that and restarting Mail, the image doesn't show, but instead shows a place holder saying "Missing Plug-in". I don't want to use remote images on the web, since many clients mostly ask users to display remote images firstly, before actually displaying them - embedded images therefore work better, as they will be displayed instantly in most cases/email clients' default configuration. Is it possible to embed small images inline with outgoing mail using the native mail.app on macOS?

Mail program 16.0, on Sequoia 15.5, 16" Mac Book Pro Apple chip M3 Max I have emails that come to my Mac Mail program via @iCloud.com email account. I also have in the same mail app a few Gmail imap accounts. Sometimes id like to forward an @iCloud.com email to a person using a gmail account - which im told by apple tech support im suppose to be able to do & have done previously with no issues - until lately. Not sure when the problem started. I'll select the @iCloud.com email to forward, click forward, change the " from account " to a gmail account, compose and send the email. The problem is that the emails are not sent using the selected gmail account , but are being sent by apple mail and is using my Apple ID - which I do not want to be used or made public. Id like the email to be forwarded using the selected gmail account. How can I figure out what causing this unexpected behavior & how can I make the forwarded emails be sent from the selected gmail account and not my Apple ID account? To add to the frustration & curiosity, when I try the above send procedure using apple mail & forwarding with gmail , it works as expected on all my iOS devices - iPhone & iPad. Ive checked the gmail accounts on my MacBook Pro to make sure the smtp's are correct and they all show gmail credentials. Ive also removed & re-added the gmail accounts with no change in behavior. I dont know what else to try / check. Help appreciated. Attached is a screen shot of the drop down menu I use to select gmail account when composing the forwarding email. Thank you. email window
